Truluck's Seafood, Steak and Crab House - Houston Ratings and Reviews
We love Trulucks! I had my anniversary there last year as well as my birthday and we were back for this annversary. The stone crab are best in Houston with a sauce thats delicious! My husband is allergic to shellfish, but can always be happy with their amazing steaks. Live music in the bar made it especially memorable and they went out of their way for the occasion.
I went to Truluck's for my birthday. I was craving steak and seafood. I ordered the Chef's Filet (medium well) and it didn't disappoint. Yes, it's a bit expensive but it's worth it, especially for special occasions. The waitress also brought over a lovely dessert called the chocolate box for my birthday. Yummy?
This visit was our second New Year's Eve dinner at Truluck's Seafood. It was even better than the first time. The food was outstanding and abundant. Almost too much. Shrimp, oysters, huge stone crab claws, scallops, champagne and Baked Alaska. Service was excellent and friendly. Will return with friends. Highly recommended
Great experience great service. Only problem was all the sides had scallions/green onions in them that was not disclosed on the menu nor was it asked if everyone would like them in - crab mac and cheese, cream corn, and mashed potatoes. Otherwise all the other food was delicious, and our service was outstanding!
Truluck's on Westheimer earns its stellar reputation. The service was genuinely friendly and welcoming, and all of our meals were just great. If you're splurging on calories anyway, go ahead and order the hash browns! It's pricey, but I've often paid more for less, in terms of the overall experience. This restaurant is worth the fare for a special occasion or an impressive business dinner.
Nice, quiet, and cozy. Great for a date night. Our server was good during the few times he checked in on us. Many times we were waiting a long time for him to come to our table, however, we noticed the other servers were giving great service.
I had the stone crab. The garlic butter was delicious and there was a good amount of crab meat for the price.
I like to go every year for my birthday in order to eat stone crabs and a nice quality piece of fish. While I usually like the large claws, they only had medium and jumbo. The jumbo were excellent! My son had scallops and they were well prepared, tender and plentiful for the price. The hot and sweet fish is one of my favs, but instead of halibut it now has yellow fin. Not as good a piece of fish. Wife had redfish ponchatrain, a steady choice. Good wine selection, even by the glass, and bar drinks are excellent and competitively priced. French press coffee is the best in town and the chocolate cake is fabulous. Always attentive service without being pushy.
Overall, a solid recommendation each year.
Another fine dining experience at Truluks on Westheimer. Our party of four had only seafood entrees and they were all excellent. The Lobster bisque soup is the best in Houston and the stuffed South African Lobster Tail was a close second. My only complaint was that I asked for a quiet spot for conversation with friends when I made the reservation and we were seated right in the middle of the restaurant in the noisiest location making casual conversation nearly impossible. Obviously the hostess paid no attention to the special request section of the Open Table reservation as there were numerous booths available at the back of the restaurant where it would have been much quieter. I suppose it was partially my fault for not reminding her when we were being seated. Shame on me but more shame on her for not paying attention to her job.
was expecting just a little more from truluck's this holiday. i received a call an hour before to confirm my table - this had me a little freaked out as it was christmas eve that we would be left out in the cold for our family party of 5. our service was not to the level it should be for $100+ a person - water was initially poured for four people and not myself. not sure how i was missed. drinks took forver. i asked to switch to sparkling water - that never came just a regular water refill. the hasselbeck potatoe sides were super dry - not like anything i have ever seen for that recipe. it was odd. my husband and i shared the $110 tomahawk ribeye - they cooked it off the bone and served it slicked already with the bone next to it on the plate. we have ordered this many times and it was a shock it was served this way and pre-sliced. the scallops were excellent and the crabcake appetizer stole the show.
Stone crab claw appetizers were great and mustard sauce was especially good. Service and busing was unobtrusive and courteous. Our table had bone-in filet, king crab and sea bass. The entrees were excellent and served as ordered. We had a good time and will visit again. Only one concern was that the on the rocks drinks were a little short on the pour.
The waiter we had was very nice, and attentive with our order. My issue is not with the service, but more with the food. I ordered a filet which took a pretty long time to come out, and it was very salty. I also did not get a steak knife for my steak which I found somewhat odd. The mashed potatoes were not as flavorful and one would think from the description on the menu. I am not one to complain seeing as its not the waiters fault, but I didnt want to make a fuss and ask them to return the food. The ambiance was nice and quiet, and the waitstaff is excellent which still makes me think there is room to improve as far as the food goes.
Our most recent visit resulted in one of our best restaurant experiences ever! The food was beautiful, well-prepared, and delicious — we especially love the stone crab, and both appetizers and dessert were also excellent. And the service from everyone (front desk, waiter, manager) was superb — professional, friendly, very helpful, extremely pleasant. Nice, attractive surroundings, good background music. It's not "cheap thrills" — clearly more of a special occasion place than one for daily dining — but you know that before arrival and the quality of the food and service fully live up to that expectation. The overall experience was wonderful — we definitely look forward to our next visit.
