Truluck’s never disappoints, and the staff at the downtown Austin location are friendly, helpful and professional.
It was good at the top end and “so-so” at the other. After initial good service at our unfashionable 6:00 pm reservation time, things got busy and it was hard to get any server’s attention for awhile (of course, towards the end of the meal [and tip time], they were much more in evidence 😇).
We had a lovely table, great view, starched linens (in our choice of two colors) and delicious salads. I talked our server into letting me have the $85 “all you can eat” stone crab deal, while my guest had a broiled sea bass (?), promising the server I wouldn’t sneak over more than two claws surreptitiously to him.
Unfortunately, the sea bass was somewhat dry, being slightly overcooked, and my stone crab (in a very attractive piled up presentation on ice, complete with the classic mustard sauce) were mushy and somewhat tasteless. I go to Florida a lot and know what fresh SC are supposed to taste like.
These either were boiled for too long (you guys know the secret is to have rolling boiling water and to take any seafood like that (shrimp, scallops, etc.) out a minute or two before “ready”, or perhaps they were “put up “ as overage from the day before — not sure. I didn’t say anything about the two shortfalls to the staff, and neither to manager Chris Jones (who impressed me by coming to the table earlier in the meal and giving us his card), but was nevertheless underwhelmed (then again I don’t like to gripe about the food with my guest present).
Anyway, you asked and I’m responding. It’s not a Truluck’s deal-breaker, just thought you might appreciate my input.

I enjoy hearing Jen Fuentes but sometimes the noise level friend her out.
Truluck’s was wonderful. The service and the food were outstanding. I recommend the Sonoma salad, the Miso Glazed Sea Bass, and the Baked Alaska.
Great service for anniversary. They made it special!!
Trulucks never disappoints. We started with oysters and enjoyed dungeonous crab, which was succulent and delicious. We had a problem with one of the staff at check-in, but a friendly and capable manager resolved it quickly. In any event, I do prefer the Naples restaurant, but this one is great as well.
Riley and Andrew do a terrific job making you feel welcomed and special. All the servers from the bar staff to the wait staff are excellent. We always enjoy the live music in the bar. Wonderful place to dine and have a cocktail.
Everything was amazing!!!!!
Food and service was fabulous. ENTIRE staff I was soooo attentive. My scallops were delish and my bleu cheese olives in my durty martini truly made my night
Seafood not as good as expected. Service and ambiance was very good.
We were introducing some our favorite things to new friends who just moved to Austin. We started with Truluck’s because it never disappoints. Our server, Sean, was professional, friendly and thoroughly knowledgeable of the menu and bar selections. The lounge entertainment (two female singers) was so enjoyable. The table side delivery of plattered citrus and cucumber slices for our water was unique and such a unique and cool offering. The meal was fresh, perfectly prepared and delicious. And the carrot cake - come on...it is THE BEST in the world.
Trulucks is always our go to place to eat. We had been at the Quintessa wine sampling and ate dinner after with friends! Everything was good as always and our waitress Lori was awesome!
I highly recommend Truluck’s!!! HIGHLY!! The soft live music. Drinks, atmosphere, the service, the meals....and the desserts were all top notch!!! Oysters..... filet....lobster....bisque.....sea bass ....carrot cake.....all were delicious!!
We cebrsted our 28 anniversary here. The omnibus of this place is beautiful. The live pianist, the curved staircase and the rose peddles on the the table was over the top beautiful.
The crab cake, sea bass and reddish tasted so fresh and flavorful. The hostess, manager and waiter was over the top polite. This is our new place for good seafood.
Next time I will request a window seat because the view at night is beautiful and romantic. The food is awesome.
A Bon Voyage to a good friend leaving Austin....he had the Oscar and loved it....my Redfish Ponchatrain was fabulous. Service and atmosphere perfect as always
I went to dinner with a small group to celebrate my birthday. We were greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and helpful. The food was beyond delicious!! I will definitely return to Truluck's when I am in Austin again.
Great food and service. Will definitely eat here again.
Very friendly and attention to details. The food was amazing and very well prepared. Overall their service is Excellent!
Excellent all around. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
Trulucks is your best bet for quality seafood and steaks in downtown Austin. There are other seafood and steak options but no one else offers the variety of seafood that Trulcuks does. The staff is really good and very attentive and always make your occasion feel special. I've also hosted customer events in their event space and it was a terrific experience.
Great food and service
The aged steak special was good but not great as expected.
Food was spectacular and service was impressive. We are anxious to return!
Excellent place. I go there regularly . Great food and ambiance
Delicious dinner, attentive staff, romantic ambiance. Perfect everything!
Superb 5 star food, service & atmosphere every time! Our fav upscale dining in downtown Austin!
Had a great business dinner with clients. The staff could not have been any more accommodating and gracious. Wonderful overall experience and highly recommended.
This is a large restaurant, so it wasn’t difficult to get a last minute reservation for a relatively large group. The atmosphere is very welcoming, rather than intimidating. While this is definitely fine dining, the staff works to put diners at ease and deliver a relaxed, fun experience. Of course, the food is wonderful, and there is enough variety as far as the menu options that everyone in our party, all of whom have different palettes and dietary restrictions, were able to find multiple dishes that appealed.
We had a wonderful experience. The staff took care of our needs. It is a fantastic place to get a steak. Our 6th anniversary will rank among our most memorable.
The Alaskan crab legs were pricey but worth it! Plenty of other seafood options and gluten free options here. A great date night restaurant
We were there celebrating my birthday and my friend’s birthday. We have dined there on multiple occasions and each time the experience has been excellent. Our waiter took great care of us and answered any questions we had. However, my friend’s meal came out cold. It was sent back to be warned, once it came back to the table it was still cold. At this point the manger was notified and promptly remedied the situation by making her a new meal. In light of the meal being cold, we had a great time celebrating life and friendships.
While the service and atmosphere were great, the food was not so great. The lobster bisque was not smooth enough and left a chalky after taste. Way too tarragon in everything to include the butter. My salmon was ok not great but the mushrooms were seansoned very well. My girlfriend’s steak had a good char on it and the mashed potatoes were good. I believe she liked the lobster tail. So over all the food was good but not great like we expected, especially for the price. Probably won’t be dining again anytime soon.
20 years anniversary service and food was fantastic.
It was a wonderful second experience being there. We enjoyed the food once again. Will be back again
Food was excellent but the service was absolutely the best. I will be back soon and often with that combination.
Our experience was quite good in terms of the food and service.... the wait for the food was about 45 minutes....too long and mostly the greater was not helpful in terms of accomodating us since we arrived about twenty five minutes early... He simply said to wait at the bar but there were no seats....he could at least talked to us with more respect..... the food was excellent as was the service
We went for Valentines Day. Most restaurants try to cram as many tables in as they can. They didn’t. We had the most relaxing time on one of the busiest times of the year. Great food, great service, excellent value! Our first time but not the last.
Excellent customer service, top of the line, couldn’t ask for a better experience. And the food was stellar. The crab cakes and lobster bisque scallops, swordfish, all outstanding. Cannot wait to return.
Truluck's never fails to disappoint! This is my go-to restaurant for special occasions because the food, ambiance, service, dessert and wine list are absolute perfection. The surf and turf is my favorite, and the carrot cake is to die for. While you will spend a pretty penny, it is entirely worth it. Not only is service exceptional once you walk in the door, but every time my fiance and I go, I receive a call the next day making sure the service and food I received were to my liking. If you're looking for a classy place downtown with amazing food, go to Truluck's!
