Truluck's Seafood, Steak and Crab House - Austin Arboretum Ratings and Reviews
Good food, but the service was lacking.
My dad was looking forward to the stone crab claws for a long time. We arrived before it got busy, at 5:30. Our food took forever to arrive - people who were seated after us at the next table were almost through with their entrees before we were even served our appetizers. When my dad was almost finished with his first round of crab claws and requested a seconds, it took at least twenty minutes for the second round to arrive - by which time he'd already asked the server to cancel it. It's more than a little annoying to pay a hefty premium for all the crab claws you want only to have the server delay and delay and delay bringing them.
While the food WAS delicious, the very slow service put a big dent in our enjoyment of the dinner.
The restaurant was terribly understaffed. We had trouble getting waited on in the bar area and during dinner we had to hunt down a person to get our bread. All of the staff was very busy so I don't want to put the blame on them. I think that they were short handed. We have always gone to the downtown location and the service is amazing. When you are paying these kind of prices you expect more attentive service. Also, our table was near the door so every time someone came in I would get a blast of cold air. I ended up eating my meal with my coat on. The seafood is delicious but I was disappointed with the salad.
Amazing service, food, presentation and atmosphere. I am a frugal person, so spending a lot on a meal goes against my nature but this was money well spent. Nice touch presenting my spouse with a free Baked Alaska dessert for her birthday. The managing partner, Andrea, was on top of everything. Very efficient staff.
The service was fantastic. The renovation was quite nice. The food was excellent. We went to trulucks for a second year in a row for an anniversary dinner. Last year there were pieces of shell in a lobster plate. They provided another plate and it was excellent. This year, unfortunately, we found a long hair in a seafood plate. We received a new plate but did not comp anything. We were disappointed in that. They did provide a new plate. The food was excellent and the service was great. Unfortunately the food quality control two years in a row was poor. Therefore, I don’t imagine we will return, even though it is quite nice. Kudos to the great staff!
Have been a Truluck's customer for years. Was expensive but worth it with great food, coffee, and service.
Now all that is left is the service.
This is OK for a mediocre restaurant, but the price here does not align with the food.
I am sorry to see it come to it. Truluck's was my go-to restaurant in the Arboretum area.
I won't be going back.
As usual, service is fantastic, food was fantastic, and it was a wonderful evening. More than any restaurant in Austin, both Truluck's locations in Austin provide the best service, consistently great tasting food, and provide a truly wonderful dinning experience. Scott
My husband was looking forward to visiting Truluck’s again. We went to the downtown location previously. Overall, things were great.
Some of the food could have been better. The oysters Rockefeller had a lot of grit in them. Not sure if they were rinsed off before chucking. The crab fried rice was not as expected. It had a lot of things going on and some flavor that didn’t seem liked it belonged there. The steak supreme was good but we didn’t get a steak knife so we had to tear it with our butter knife. The steak sauce tasted like bbq sauce, not impressive.
Fresh seafood is difficult to find in Central Texas, but Truluck’s has amazing seafood. The shrimp cocktail was delicious with a presentation of dry ice. The Manhattan cocktail was well crafted. The Redfish entree was also a great dish and don’t get me started on those stone crab claws. You have to try them to fully appreciate them. All in all, a memorable meal.
Service was amazing... Decor and ambience was excellent. My ribeye had good flavor but was quite tough and was not cooked to order...medium rare . The potatoes also had good flavor but were quite dry . The crab legs were excellent . I will try them again but I expected more for the price we paid . $$$$
My family and I had a great time . The food was fabulous. One I do want to mention is that we could not drink our water either the glasses stunk or the the water did. Perhaps the glasses should not be stored up side down or the dish waster should be serviced more often. Perhaps the bottles you serve the water in . The smell was quite noticeable.
Went to Trulucks to celebrate my son's birthday. Met for drinks and appetizers in the bar... then moved on to our reservation for dinner. Everything was perfect. Just a touch of decoration to acknowledge the birthday... with a free baked alaska for dessert... and great food... great wine selection reasonably priced.
They hit it out of the ball park. It is newly remodeled and gorgeous. Our server was attentive and sweet. I whispered it was my mother in laws birthday, and he surprised us with confetti on the table and a baked Alaska desert.
They made it fun and special. Thanks Trulucks!
Had an anniversary dinner planned only to find out place was shut down for remodeling. Either this restaurant moved or closed a second location down for remodeling. Called after making reservation on Open Table and was told we did not have a table. Cant rate the food, heard it is top of the heap too bad, but they should clear this up. BTW, the downtown location is the one that is still open or this is way it was moved to. To be fair, had to choose ratings or I would have left blank to be fair, so given this experience blew may plans all low. Sorry, you asked!
Great food and restaurant, excellent service. They were going through a remodel (actually closing the next day) so the dining room wasn't as nice as I expected. And it was REALLY DARK. (We asked to be moved which helped). Expensive ($400 for four people including one bottle of wine). Honestly, not sure the meal was worth the price.
We dined there while visiting Austin for the USGP and we were also celebrating our anniversary The management and staff went out of their way to make our evening very special!
The menu is varied with a nice selection of beef and seafood. We had the mussels as a starter and stuffed lobster for the main course. Both were excellent and the baked Alaska dessert was over the top. The wine selection is comprehensive and reasonably priced.
Truluck's is our new tradition for our USGP vacation in the future.
Compliments to the chef and hats off to the staff on a job well done!!
This restaurant is in the middle of a renovation and we understood that when we booked, however, their service could use a renovation as well. We came to celebrate my wife’s birthday. A night out sans kids is rare for us these days. We were promptly seated in a small section of the restaurant as most of the dining was closed for renovation. We ordered fair quickly as we have been to Trulucks before and we were familiar with the menu. The service after that lacked what we saw others receive around us. Our appetizers seemed to have taken an extreme amount of time. Come to find out our crab cake and oysters were given to table next to us that was just seated and still reading their menus. Yeah for them. We continued to wait patiently for someone (manager) to explain the mixup. He did bring out some soup, but My wife doesn’t eat lobster. By the time our apps arrived we were ready to eat our main course. We were disappointed in the attentiveness we received. It will be a long time before we try them again. Dinner for 2 that takes 2 1/2 hours is way too long for us.
We started evening with Tangeray martinis. We ordered the lump meat crab cakes and the calamari both appetizers were the best I have ever had. The crab cake is literally all crab meat, you have to search for any breading, the calamari was tender and flavorful. My wife's sea scallops were tender and succulent, cooked and seasoned to perfection, my Redfish Ponchatrain was perfect. The sauce which contains crawfish tails, shrimp and blue crab does not overwhelm the fish. This Trulucks location is very consistent, the food and service is well worth the drive and the cost. I am anxious for them to reopen after their remodel.
