Truluck's Seafood, Steak and Crab House - Austin Arboretum Ratings and Reviews
It was good, but there was room for improvement. My Chef Filet meal was slightly strange in appearance. My filet looked a little like it had been frosted with the Bernaise sauce rather than topped with it. Everything could have been a little hotter. On the good side, Johnathan, our waiter, was very nice and attentive, and other personnel were the same. Our drinks were, "oh so awesome."
I just wasn't "wowed" food-wise this time, as I have been in the past, nor was my husband.
Been going there for several years to celebrate birthdays or special occasions. We have always had a birthday cake presented to the person celebrating but that didn't happen this time. 6:00 reservation, seated a 7:00 and a hour serving time. Hope this changes. Food was better than excellent.
It was a perfect place to take my husband for his birthday. Both of us love seafood. We wish you offered a couple of artisan beers on tap. The mussels and crab claws were delicious. We did have to remind the server to bring out the hot towels to clean our fingers. And, I felt a little rush when I was eating my bisque when the wait staff brought out my entree. Our fish selections were delicious. We had the pleasant surprise of having a Baked Alaska, which both of us could eat, flambed table-side. Outside the minor infractions, we really enjoyed the evening.
Our first visit was for our anniversary and it was fantastic. The food was amazing, pricey but worth it. Also, when they learned it was our anniversary there were rose pedals on the table when we were seated. The staff signed an anniversary card and they even provided dessert on the house. We will definitely be back!
Perfect date night spot. Even after 18 years of marriage, it's important to find time for each other. We were able to have a delicious dinner, enjoy each others conversation and company, and feel like we had the place to ourselves. Our server was FABULOUS! Stopping by at just the right times so that were well tended to without being obtrusive. The Assistant Manager greeted us shortly after we were seated and recommended a delicious bottle of wine. 5 star experience from beginning to end. Thank you for setting a wonderful atmosphere for us!!!
Our first visit to Trulucks and every detail was what we hoped: excellent! The food was memorable: fresh, beautifully prepared seafood, and possibly the most innovative and tasty calamari ever experienced. Our server, Jerry, was notably attentive and the timing was perfect. A lovely touch was a visit by Louis, the manager, who was sincere in his interest. A return visit is a must!
It was very loud in the bar the first time we ate there this month, so when we returned for my birthday, we paid the extra to sit in the dinning room even though they could only get us in at 5:45. The food was outstanding in both areas, but too loud in all areas of the restaurant. When you are paying $400.00 for a meal, it should not feel like you are being packed into a room with as many tables as you can get on the floor. That said, the waiter had no recommendations for wine like we got in the bar only "they are all good". All in all, the food is excellent but a bit pricy for the "rushed" setting. Service was good, but not memorable. Noise level was too high and prevented the feeling of a relaxed meal setting you would expect at this price point. Enjoyable overall, but you have room to improve the setting. Also the number of calls and emails for reviews, feedback and reminders is over the top, this now makes contact number 5.
Truluck’s is always a fantastic dining experience. Yes, it can be expensive, but worth every penny. Service is outstanding and our server, Frank, was wonderful, attentive, anticipated our needs, and very friendly. The food is excellent-especially the stone crabs when in season, and we’ve never had anything that was not top notch. We always go for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, and when we have guests/family from out of town. We love the live piano music, but it can be a bit loud and hard to have a conversation in the bar area. But that is so minor, and would never be a reason to not go. We highly recommend Truluck’s and look forward to enjoying many more meals at this phenomenal establishment.
As usual, the newly remodeled Truluck's (Arboretum) always comes through. Absolutely the best service possible, wonderful waiters and waitresses who LISTEN and pay attention to detail all while being kind and super professional. The food is absolutely fabulous and 2nd to none. I have to give a big thanks also to Mr. Louis Saliba (GM) who ALWAYS comes and recognizes everyone and thanks everyone for being at the place. What a PRO and awesome person he ALWAYS is and monitors to make sure that EVERY detail is taken care of. Truluck's is not the least expensive place you can go, but you get what you pay for, and if I have to describe it in 1 word: immaculate would be the word. Thanks for making our visit with our out of town friends memorable.
Food, wine and service was good except for the oysters. I purchased a $39 plate of one dozen oysters that were about the size of a quarter. Much, much too small to serve in a nice restaurant like yours. I almost sent them back but my friends at the table wouldn't let me.
The occasion was a holiday dinner for employees. The food was delicious, the service friendly but a little slow at times for tea refills, etc. We did ask that the music be turned down slightly and I think they did that. We were early and some of the first diners so the music probably seemed louder with few people in the room. Would definitely come again and really liked the bar area.
The service was outstanding, maybe the best I've ever had. The ambience at Truluck's is enhanced by a very classic interior design motif as well as perfect lighting and furniture.
About the food: My wife's 7 oz filet mignon was a perfect medium rare and second to none in taste. I ordered the pacific yellowtail with avocado and crab (and some jalapeños); while i thought it was a great recipe, the fish itself was pretty dry and had some dark brown spots on the back side which were a bit "fishy" tasting.
All in all, it was a very good experience and i would return as well as recommend Truluck's to my friends and family.
The recent remodel has given this location a fresh look. The noise level is still pretty high for such an expensive restaurant but better than before. Our waitress seemed distracted and not as attentive as we have experienced in the past but the food was delicious as always. If you go, you have to try the Tuna Tartare Tower. Superb! And of course the crab fried rice is worth the trip by itself. Still one of our favorite restaurants in Austin!
Above our expectations! Perfect service and delicious, fresh seafood. The staff was made aware that we were celebrating our anniversary and no one passed out table prior to pour meal without stopping to congratulate us! It's pricey but worth it. Reservations are a must.
Good food, but the service was lacking.
My dad was looking forward to the stone crab claws for a long time. We arrived before it got busy, at 5:30. Our food took forever to arrive - people who were seated after us at the next table were almost through with their entrees before we were even served our appetizers. When my dad was almost finished with his first round of crab claws and requested a seconds, it took at least twenty minutes for the second round to arrive - by which time he'd already asked the server to cancel it. It's more than a little annoying to pay a hefty premium for all the crab claws you want only to have the server delay and delay and delay bringing them.
While the food WAS delicious, the very slow service put a big dent in our enjoyment of the dinner.
The restaurant was terribly understaffed. We had trouble getting waited on in the bar area and during dinner we had to hunt down a person to get our bread. All of the staff was very busy so I don't want to put the blame on them. I think that they were short handed. We have always gone to the downtown location and the service is amazing. When you are paying these kind of prices you expect more attentive service. Also, our table was near the door so every time someone came in I would get a blast of cold air. I ended up eating my meal with my coat on. The seafood is delicious but I was disappointed with the salad.
Amazing service, food, presentation and atmosphere. I am a frugal person, so spending a lot on a meal goes against my nature but this was money well spent. Nice touch presenting my spouse with a free Baked Alaska dessert for her birthday. The managing partner, Andrea, was on top of everything. Very efficient staff.
The service was fantastic. The renovation was quite nice. The food was excellent. We went to trulucks for a second year in a row for an anniversary dinner. Last year there were pieces of shell in a lobster plate. They provided another plate and it was excellent. This year, unfortunately, we found a long hair in a seafood plate. We received a new plate but did not comp anything. We were disappointed in that. They did provide a new plate. The food was excellent and the service was great. Unfortunately the food quality control two years in a row was poor. Therefore, I don’t imagine we will return, even though it is quite nice. Kudos to the great staff!
Have been a Truluck's customer for years. Was expensive but worth it with great food, coffee, and service.
Now all that is left is the service.
This is OK for a mediocre restaurant, but the price here does not align with the food.
I am sorry to see it come to it. Truluck's was my go-to restaurant in the Arboretum area.
I won't be going back.
