We haven't dined at Tru since 2009 and were not disappointed. The food and service was outstanding. We are sorry that the restaurant will be closing its doors soon.
I am sad to see that this iconic place is closing, but am also grateful my girlfriend and I had the chance to go here one more time before the doors closed for good. Hadn’t been here in years but the food was every bit as good as I remember, and the atmosphere was even better. Tru will be missed.
We enjoyed a wonderful birthday celebration for my daughter and for the closing of the restaurant. I have been fortunate to have dined here twice and I didn't want the restaurant to close prior to my daughter also being able to experience fine dining at it's best! Good bye Tru, you will be missed.
Once again, an amazing dining experience, from the time we walked in through the door, to our server hailing a cab for us at about 12:30 a.m. when we left. TRU has been a favorite of ours for years. The food and service were at their incredibly high standard again, and we had a wonderful time enjoying the degustation with some thoughtfully chosen wines by the sommelier. The experience here is found almost nowhere else. The creativity from the chef, the whimsical and daring presentation of the food courses, the flawless and carefully coordinated service, the knowledge and friendliness of everyone who we dealt with; all combine to make this an extraordinary culinary experience. We were incredibly saddened to find out that this wonderful restaurant is closing!!! Unbelievable! With so few dining experiences available like this, we cannot understand how the owner would consider closing this fine establishment that has been in business for almost 20 years. We strongly encourage the owner(s) to change his/her mind and keep this restaurant open!!
Loved this & so happy to have had the reservation before it closes!
Only critique: only white napkins? My navy blue dress looks like a lint trap without a black napkin offered. Found that surprising given how impeccable everything else is.
Awesome place, long a favorite. Closing Oct 7, so you had better get there fast. The perfect antidote to hurricane season and current political lunacy.
The food was lack luster. The service was atrocious. The sommelier was uninformed and could not answer basic questions correctly. He talked like he knew things, but really didn't and his choice was a poor one.
I have read great reviews about Tru and I decided to celebrate my anniversary last night at Tru, my girl friend and I were visiting Chicago and were ecstatic about going. However being a younger couple dinning there, I noticed most of the people dinning there were an older crowd, I felt that I was being mistreated as a customer. At first the service was good, but towards the end of the meal the server threw the plate to my girlfriend and gave an unpleasant look. I thought that was unacceptable, especially coming from a 2-michelin star restaurant. I have been to many michelin star restaurants (coming from NYC) and have never left a restaurant unhappy. I will definitely not be coming back.
Amazing! Wonderful and very sad to see it is closing.
Oddly, we managed to get in here before they closed at the end of September, as was the case when we went to L2O just before it closed. Our experience was terrific; the service was well timed, courses were explained in detail, the wine list was massive and the sommelier was very informative, and the food...the food was outstanding. We did the full blown service and every course was well prepared, beautifully plated and very delicious. Our only mixed comment was, while the dining room was very nice, it did have a somewhat dated feel, somewhere in the late 90's or early 00's as far as decor goes. Overall worth it.
Excelente comida. Precio elevado pero tiene dos estrellas Michelín. Ambiente y atención excelente.
Did not see creativity in the dishes for a Michelin 2 star.
Most professional service, exquisite tasting food!
Having dinner at TRU was a fantastic experience. Every course was delicious, the presentation absolutely beautiful and the service truly exceptional.
Unbelievable experience one of the best fine dining restaurant I've been too. Service, food and presentation exceptional
Exceptional
We had a great experience at TRU! Our table was spaced out enough from others to be more private and it wasn't noisy at all. The service was friendly and quick without rushing us. I really appreciated that they asked for dietary restrictions ahead of time and accommodated my request for lower sodium. The menu and cheese selection were fantastic, and we were even sent home with a copy of the menu and apricot cookies for later. Thank you!
Spectacular food by far (worth the 2 Michelin stars). Yet, the ambiance and the experience lacked by far other restaurants of the same rating and recognition. A 2 Michelin star restaurant should pay attention to every single detail! Dining is a SENSORY EXPERIENCE and not simply a revenue generator. Areas and customer experience contact points that need to be improved: (1) silverware should be upgraded (off the shelf Oneida silverware are simply unacceptable), (2) music should be thought through (existing elevator music is far inferior of the ambiance and the experience projected), (3) bread (nothing exciting yet dissatisfying - offered bread tasted like off the self bread you can find in any upscale grocery store), (4) absence of flowers and candles (missed the opportunity to create a lasting experience), (5) bring back the a la carte option ( pre fix is not suited to all guests). Overall great food yet disappointing ambiance and overall experience. In a wold-class city like Chicago you need to step up to the game.
Just super. Went here as the start of our planned tour of as many Chicago Michelin Star eateries as possible, and the first one we chose ie Tru was a massive hit and no disappointment whatsoever. Immaculate place in terms of decor, atmosphere, staff dress code, staff service level, maitre'D and sommelier expertise, food quality and breadth, all command respect and fantastic comments. Will be back one day! WIne list and vintage champagne by the glass also great.
Expensive but worth it! A wonderful dining experience from appetizer to dessert with surprises along the way.
It was a lovely evening and delicious dinner. A very special night to celebrate our 50th wedding anniverary.
I was looking for a Michelin-starred restaurant while in Chicago for a business trip and TRU did not disappoint! The food was amazing and creative, the service was impeccable and the little extras were a pleasant surprise!
The service team did an amazing job, they were all synchronized and very attentive to your needs. The ambiance is OK- not exactly my taste, as it feels a little plain and empty. Chef did a great job on the menu and it was delicious. However, it being a two Michelin star restaurant I already had high hopes for the restaurant. Not a cheap experience, but it was fun!
This was our second visit, and the ambience, the service, the quality all remain as we remembered. The Iranian caviar was magnificent. The wine pairings were stellar.
I was disappointed that the menu is now prie-fixe only, which it was not at our last visit. Not every top tier restaurant has to be Alinea or French Laundry: some of us still yearn for the luxurious difficulty of choosing among a full menu of tempting dishes. A full menu option also would've enabled me to avoid the only sour note of my dining experience, the wheatberry course, which I found inedible.
And we REALLY miss the Muscovy duck! I'll be back as soon as it is back.
The food and service were excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. We had the full course tasting menu with wine pairing. The cheese plate was a nice add on mid meal. There is also caviar to start but we didn't. We didn't leave too full but we were satisfied.
Champagne and caviar are always best friends! Incredible selection!!! Food surprising!
Service was great but the food was overpriced and nothing to write home about. Except for the mussel velouté - that was excellent.
The food was delicious as you would expect from a high-end establishment. The staff really makes Tru a special place. They are warm, without being in your face; and incredibly knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed the small tasting of caviar and added cheese course!
This was the best dining experience ever! The serving team was well synchronized. The chef combined fantastic tasting courses on original matching dining ware. We admitted our ignorance right away and was expertly guide by Mark. All staff was friendly and attentive to us. Our positive experience started from the moment we entered until we were escorted to the taxi that was called for us.
Can't say other than excellent!!! Highly recommended if u don't mind paying the price.
Food was very good, but not exciting. Service choreography was exaggerated: Two servers that fill our water glasses in perfect synchrony -- looks too pretentious for my taste
We celebrated our anniversary there. The food was outstanding as was the service. Plus, we were given a take home menu with the date and our names printed in it. It's a nice memento.
The food was very good. However, given the two Micheline stars, I expected to be wowed either by the taste, the presentation or the combination of flavors, and I was not on any of the dishes. Also, the service was professional and attentive. However, it lacked a bit of warmth. Having said that, you can't go wrong with Tru in terms of food and professional service. And if looking for a quiet restaurant, where you don't have to yell to have a conversation, it's one of the best.
Wonderful evening, great food. Special attention to detail as always. Thank you for the kitchen tour!
Amazing ambiance and the food was magnificent. Great for a special occasion!
This is one of our very special occasion places and again it didn't disappoint. Although our waitress started a bit stiff and off putting she warmed up nicely. The staff was very attentive without being overbearing. The food was right on and interesting. The presentation was delightful. The wine pairings were very complimentary of the food. We loved the slow, but perfectly paced progress of the meal. Try never falls short of expectations.
TRU is always a favorite of ours for a special occasion.
MOST OF THE FOOD IS VERY SALTY. ONLY 30 % OF THE FOOD FROM THE COURSES IS EATABLE.
THE DESERT IS GOOD.
My husband insisted we celebrate my birthday on the actual date although I was stressed out from serious health issues, stolen credit card and missing a test for my driver's license required this year. As always, HE knew best! Our evening at TRU was, in truth, the best we ever could have had. Delicious food, and wine, soothing music, superb service and a beautiful setting. We'll be back!
Exceptional service with a perfect seasonal tasting menu crafted by talented chefs.
