Troll's at Horseshoe Bay
Lovely and delicious food! First time visiting in 21 years and everything was great!
The food was great and I think the price fits. The location was really nice especially with families. Only complaint was that one of order was missing an item and even after asking for it I still didn’t receive it. I also wanted more coffee but the waiter didn’t come till the end of our meals. But it was a very busy day so I can imagine it was a lotof work. Still I would come back, the food is very hardy and tasty.
We stop here every year on our way to Whistler! We look forward to it!! The food is great and the atmosphere is comfortable and the view spectacular !
Noticed that I could not find Troll's listed on the Open Table Vancouver site although Open table is the platform offered for booking on the restaurant site. And I did not receive any points.
The food was mediocre, the prices were far too high for what you got, and the restaurant itself was crowded and cold. Service was nothing special, the only standout thing about our dinner here was the view we caught before it got dark. I would not go back.
Great family friendly and convenient restaurant. Fish and chips crispy and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. I can’t believe I’ve never been here before, but I will be back.
The higher noise level was due to it being New Year's Day—the place was jumping. Troll's has maintained its quality and charm since its inception 70 years ago. The staff were as always good-natured and efficient, even in that hectic atmosphere.
All proceeded as expected.. Table was ready upon entry. Service was friendly and good. Prices were reasonable.
Good food, varied menu and exceptional service. As requested, a lovely view over the water where we were able to relax and enjoy the food, while receiving great service. Thank you.
Seated a few minutes after reservation time. Servers avoided our table, it seems that they weren't sure which section was theirs. Three other tables that were seated after us, ordered before us. I had to finally flag down a server to order our food. Six parties that came in after us were served food before us. This is the third time of a total of six visits where service was poor. Food has always been great, and is the only reason I return - perhaps take out next time.
Our second visit since we moved to the area. Beautiful spot with great views and equally great food - clearly very popular with the locals as was very busy even though out of summer season - we booked ahead and got a great window seat reserved for us without asking. Excellent range of food, if you want a healthier option, house salads are great. Something for everyone.
As always, good service and tasty food combined with a comfortable family atmosphere. Thanks to the management for the complimentary and delicious birthday dessert for us to share!
I heard a lot of good things about Troll's so I reserved a table for 4 for a breakfast meeting and requested a quiet table by a window. We were given a corner table by the window which was fine until 2 ladies with 3 fussing and crying toddlers were seated right beside us. Needless to say, we got up and seated ourselves at a 'quiet' table on the other side of the restaurant which served us fine. Also, the food came cold and the waitress seemed perturbed during the entire time serving us. And a guy kept vacuuming the floor around the same tables over and over again. I felt like we were being rushed overall but we managed to stay on track with our meeting agenda and completed a successful meeting.
Easy to see why Troll's is so popular. Reliable good food for past 30? years.
Great food, excellent service, spectacular waterfront views!
As a whole it was average. It's known for its fish and chips. I found the batter too heavy and greasy.
I’ve got salad half of the ingredients was missed out.
Deep fry calamari wasn’t cook properly. Soup was very warm.
Only burgers were ok.
Basically, food was the worst part of our experience. They told us that they have a new chef.
Parked at ferry got wheel chair out bundled up in coldest morning of year to have breakfast at our reserved table. Only to walk all the way there to see a sign on the door that they r closed for cleaning! Nothing mentioned from reservation and nothing on their website that we could see.😢 wanted to leave ratings blank but site won’t allow
New Years day visit and restaurant was very busy, our server was fantastic juggling a very busy section. When we were seated we were told 25 minute wait for food, but it wasn't even 15 minutes and everything was delicious. We drank a lot of coffee refills and soda refills and our server was accommodating and not put out by our thirst (we had been hiking for hours that morning). Open Table reservation allowed us to book as we were driving there and be seated immediately.
Unfortunately our reservation was not honoured, we had to stand for half an hour waiting for our table and one member of our party was handicapped. After ordering it took 20 minutes to get our food.
We are from Abbotsfsord and meet with family from Gabriola and friends from Gibson's three or four times a year. We appreciate it that the staff look after us while we are waiting for our friends to arrive so we can order. My husband's father, George Wilson played rugby with Joe Troll and my husband, Dave Wilson knew Joe's son. Dave started going to Troll's i 1955 and there are a lot of memories and nostalgia associated with the restaurant. Fish and chips are the best. Nostalgia!
Troll's was as good now as when I first set foot in 1973
By FAR the best fish and chips on the coast!
Used to have great fish and chips...now its just a greasy mess. Batter is thin which is good except it is overly greasy...what a dissapointment...wont go back!
The salmon fish & chips is excellent. Perfect place to catch a meal after the ferry ride.
we came with elderly grandparents to celebrate our 17 yr olds birthday. Food was good and there was enough of a choice for everyone. We had 1 vegetarian and 1 vegan guest.
Service was prompt and attentive and friendly.
We come from Bowen Island so Trolls is a nice getaway but still a walk on ferry ride home.
The service was excellent and the food was delicious! It was a most enjoyable lunch experience!
Usually a good experience but not this time. There were 8 of us and it took over 45 minutes to get our food, it was only warm and the waitress made an error on 4 out of the 7 bills. This place is better suited to groups of 4 or less.
Haven't had fish and chips this good in a very long, long time. The best. Batter not greasy, not to thick, not over or undercooked. Excellent match for the Halibut that came out to perfection. Even the French fried were a lovely golden brown. Not greasy at all. Tiny side of cole slaw was very good. We are very happy to recommend Trolls as it was a favourite place to go for fish n chips decades ago and I thought I would be disappointed. Instead they were over the top as a Mom n Pop diner . Service was great too.
A great experience!
Don't bother making online reservation - Troll's don't even look there. They do honour it, but you wilk be seated at the spare table right to the entrance. My two small kids were freezing there. Had to put coats.
Exactly the same happened twice already.
Other than that - fish&chips is very good! And service is nice too.
I love this local landmark but it was closed for renos. Came from some distance to eat and was disappointed. Better luck next time!
Good food and price. I really recommend to my friends.
Great service and food. We chose Troll's for a family get together and were delighted. I've never experienced a fireplace in the ladies' room, what fun!
I had booked online. When we arrived the hostess didn't have our reservation. She said the online booking doesn't sync with them. I had chosen trolls over white spot to take my dad for fish and chips specifically because I can make a reservation. Because my dad is elderly in a wheelchair and hard of hearing I didn't want him to have to wait. But it turns out we did have to wait. Also the tables are so low that his chair arms didn't fit under the table. The chair to table ratio is a weird height. Also the back rest on the benches the pillow is right at your shoulders making you lean forward funny. Not very comfortable.
They did not have a record of my reservation. Restaurant is quite dirty, menus were smelly.
My husband and I love eating at Trolls and look forward to having fish and chips a few times a year, the best in BC. Today I chose the grilled salmon salad which was nicely presented and small amount of salmon. Husband had Cod and Chips. We both had wine, and apple crisp for dessert which was delicious, and great coffee. Service was excellent although I asked for no dressing and salad came with dressing on it so I had to wait while it was remade. A bit frustrating but the manager gave us my wine for free.
We stopped in for a quick bite after a long day of travel. We have food allergies and the server and hostess were very attentive to ensuring we the meal we wanted safely. We had the amazing Trolls fries, house salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was perfect. Fun to sit on outdoor porch and people watch.
If you like fish and chips, look no further. Great service and very good food for the money.
