Triple 8 China Bar & Grill
We had to wait one hour for the food.
One waiter was having to wait all the tables. We felt bad for him. He said a bunch of waiters had quit earlier that week and left them short staffed.
We ate at Triple 8 before the P!nk concert at the Staples Center. Based on reviews I read I had expected slow service but that was not our experience. At the recommendation of our waiter we got the soup dumplings, fried Brussels sprouts and beef chow fun. It is pricey for Chinese food given the portion size but we were happy with our choice. It was worth the cost due to location and convenience to Staples Center. I would come back again.
Excellent food and service. Planning to go back real soon
Service was fast fir our limited time before concert. Food was very good also.
we ate here on a Saturday before a Kings game, our waitress was apparently training someone and other tables were sat and had their food before ours. They also didn’t have any of the listed cold Sake, only 1 hot. Also my drink from the bar was brought to our table with her fingers at the top where my mouth would go. Food is good and we’ll try again and hope for a better time
Ran out of lobster so I picked clams. The clams didn’t taste good. The chicken teriyaki was gross. Chinese Food from the mall is better. Very disappointing
Food quality has dropped off at this LA Live restaurant. Service was mediocre. Used to be one of my favorites before events at Staples, not as good as it used to be. Not to mention they now have a "B" rating.
Delicious food. Big portions. Excellent service. Great place to eat before an event at LA Live or Staples Center. We’ll be back! Reservation recommended.
Food was excellent! The place gets very loud, which makes it difficult to have a conversation. The tables and chairs are bar height, which are not very comfortable for a meal. It would improve the ambiance immensely if they put in booths and regular height seating.
Restaurant has a B rating from food inspectors. Food was mediocre and overpriced. Service was fair; our server was very nice but was overly busy and apparently new to serving. Bar was out of both brands of bourbon we requested. Martinis were extremely small. “Craft” cocktails were very limited in scope. Wine list was short. No coffees or desserts offered other than ice cream.
I don’t recommend nor will I return.
We visited Triple 8 China Bar & Grill before an event at The Staples Center. Ordering a few Dim Sum items was just what we were looking for... not too heavy, yet filling. Potstickers, SuiMai and Long Bao were all very good. The service was attentive and professional. The table next to us ordered two different types of fried rice... both dishes were quite large and looked yummy. The mother-daughter at the next table said it was quite delicious. Would definitely try that next time.
I am a regular at this restaurant, I have brought many friends and colleagues here and it never disappoints. Every time, the food, drinks, ambiance and service are excellent. I love it and so do all the guests I have brought. I highly recommend.
Great spot for small plates
I would have loved to have given this restaurant a five star rating but when we arrived to the restaurant the hostess asked us if we had a reservation, which I said yes. When the hostess checked she said that it did not show up that we did. I explained to her that I made the reservations thru open table and then I showed her the email from Open Table with the confirmation stating that we did have one and she still was a bit confused. I mean if your restaurant is linked to a service that allows you to make reservations for you, I don't understand how she looked confused at what I was showing her . She then called another hostess and the other girl was able to find the reservation. After that the rest of the service was phenomenal. Our waitress was extremely efficient and friendly. The food came out fast which was surprising since it was on Valentine's day and we expected a bit of a delayed since it was packed. Once the food arrived it was hot and delicious. Everything was exactly as ordered and tasted great. We were a party of four and everyone enjoyed the restaurant and felt it was a great choice.
Great service and environment for a night out in LA.
Poor service and nothing special about food
I'm so sad to have to leave a negative review for this restaurant. It was our first time here and as we both love Chinese food we were so excited to give it a try.
The food was really good, the atmosphere was nice, and the location was perfect -- we were headed to the Staples Center for a concert afterward. However, the service was absolutely horrendous.
The restaurant was empty when we arrived, but about mid-way through our meal, there was a line of people waiting for a table. It was evident that our waiter, Alan, wanted us out quickly.
He completely rushed us and at the end, he brought the check without asking if we wanted dessert. When he put the check down, both my friend and I asked to see a dessert menu - and he blatantly ignored us! He acted like he didn't hear us and proceeded to walk away. I called out to him AGAIN and he just walked away.
This was such an awful experience that even with the good food and atmosphere, I would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's too bad. We would have liked to have gone back.
We write a note on the reservation as it a birthday dinner, although we don’t expect a complimentary a scoop of ice cream or a small egg roll for the celebrant .. of course nothing happen, we ordered an ice cream instead the we ask the waitress if they have a Little candle to put on the cake ... abruptly said NO we don’t carry a candle here.... that’s a bad customer service .
Stopped for dinner before a Saturday night concert at Staples. You need reservations because the place was packed. We were seated about 10 minutes after our res time which was great with how crowded it was. Order the Korean Style Short Ribs they were cooked perfectly.
Absolutely delicious! Service was very good, been here a few times and it never disappoints. Would recommend especially if going to an event at Staples Center or LA Live.
Disappointed. After two previous good meals here, a bummer. Bland Chow Fun accidentally doused with vinegar masquerading as soy sauce (and what’s up with that?). Excessively salty/sweet Mongolian beef. Szechwan fish filets included nasty bits of aromatic pepper that crunched like bits of gravel. On the plus side our reservation was honored promptly and the servers were accommodating and professional, if a bit rushed.
This is the second time I have been here and both times have been a good experience. The location is great for any events at Staples Center and LA Live. The food is tasty and the room acoustics don't seem to overpower you.
the server was terrific... and I will most def be writing about it. I publish LAArtsOnline. very very delicious food. I would go back for sure. order the dumplings! and orange chicken!!! were to die for. and the 888 cocktail was magnificent. ha ha okay so we had a good time. go!
One of the four dishes ordered never came. They didn't seem to care.
Great meal and place
I picked this restaurant based on it's high rating and was disappointed. 1) It's a "B" restaurant, health code wise, 2) I marked in the reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary, yet it was not acknowledged, 3) waitress was definitely too attentive - was stopping by all the time to make sure we would order, 4) the wine I ordered/received was definitely not fresh, and 5) even though we spaced out ordering our appetizers and main courses, they arrived within a few minutes of each other.
I like the happy hour options and prices. Fun dishes to share. My friends liked the food but weren’t happy with the tvs everywhere. Service was very good.
We stopped here to eat before we went to a concert that night. A reservation was great because it was very crowded. The group that checked in before us was seated once we were leaving. The food was great. Since it was so busy, it was difficult to track down the waiter sometimes and it took a while before we offered drinks.
Great food quite a few choices. Every thing we ordered was delicious. Headed back in two weeks for another concert in the area.
Yummy food, great cocktails, good service, a perfect way to kick start our Saturday night!
Food was great, service was great. It will be a nice addition to our usual rotation of restaurants around the Staples Center.
XLB/hot soup dumplings. Crispy garlic lobster. Brussel sprouts. 888 peach vodka with lychee puree. House fried rice. Peking duck.
Favorite before or after any event at LA Live. Open late.
Friendly and good service. Food was very good
We have been here several times before. Never disappointed. Decent food . Quality ingredients. Attentive staff. This last time, our waiter really was outstanding.
First date which I did put in the notes but no one did anything special.
The entrees came out before the appetizer. The waiter explained that at that restaurant the food just comes out whenever it’s ready. (I don’t believe him) It took 20 minutes just to have water at the table. I asked for Mío sparkling saki and the waiter brought me Yuzu lemon. Waiter didn’t smile, wasn’t welcoming or friendly. The ambiance was cool, the food was really good. We actually left with enough to give to a homeless person on the way to the Bruno Mars concert.
I haven’t been to LA in 25 years and this was the first restaurant was the first I visited. I was not really impressed. Conversely I went to Roscoes Chicken and Waffles in South Central the next Morning and the service was excellent and so was the food. Costs less but I got the same good food and friendly service I got 25 years ago!
My only complaint is that my appetizer came with my food, it was very delicious though.
One of the options at LA Live. So many of the restaurants there are overpriced & underwhelming. The only reason they are packed is because there are so few options before a game at Staples. The food here is good, satisfactory portions & fast service. We’ll be back.
The food was above average. So it was pretty good. I had the vegetable Lo Mein and Mongolian beef dishes. Very tasty. The food came out very quick which is a plus. The server was nice and ambiance was great.
Good food. Slow service. Bathrooms poor. ............................................................I don’t have 50 words for this review but I guess you won’t accept it unless I write more.
