Trio Rhode Island Ratings and Reviews
Delicious - each entree was delightful. The fish and chips had a hint of vinegar with the fish flaky and tasty. The Bolognese was reminiscent of grandmother's and an extremely large portion. And the chicken parmesan was juicy and tender. Topping it off, the lemon sorbet and strawberry gelato were just enough to cleanse the palate and leave us fully satisfied. Great service as well!
Food was excellent as usual but our server was not up to the usual level I expect at this restaurant. It's usually very attentive without being intrusive but this time the server didn't seem to know how to prioritize. Other tables that arrived well after us received food and left before we even got ours. I'm hoping this person was brand new and will eventually improve!
We had an early New Year's Eve dinner here with our family. The food was very good and our waitress was attentive and very pleasant. We all ordered different entrees (pizza, pasta, salad and salmon) and they were all equally delicious. I appreciated their gluten-free options and was so happy to be served warm gluten-free rolls (what a nice surprise!) The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. We've dined at Trios on several occasions and have always had a nice experience.
I want to love this place. Great location and I live all the restaurants in the Newport Restaurant Group. However the food and service just remains a little bit off as compared to its sister restaurants. Salmon ordered medium rare, sent it back because it came well done, drinks sat at the bar and came watered down the punchline, we came in right when it opened and were the only table seated. So no excuse for these mistakes and delays we were the only ones there to cook for and serve. I'll continue to go due to its conveniently close and I love my fare rewards. But I know I'm taking my chances, sometimes it's on sometimes it's just not.
We love this restaurant but at this visit, the service left a lot to be desired. Our waitress had an "attitude" from the beginning. We were dining with friends. I placed my order but received something different. When I addressed it, she said "I thought you said salmon". My husband and the other people heard me order swordfish. My friend asked what was in a dish and she said she had no idea. I think the food is great here but they really need to train their wait staff better. This is the second time out of the last three that we have had a waitress with an attitude.
We arrived for our 5pm reservation - there was only one other occupied table. Our waitress approached asking if we wanted drinks. My grandson ordered chocolate milk; several minutes later she brought it and she asked away. Returning a few minutes later we ordered our wine and she left. Several minutes later she returned with the wine and one member of our party, who had just arrived, ordered a beer. She left and returned and chatted socially with people at another table. We called her over asking for the beer and for bread. She brought the beer in a bottle and we requested a glass. Obviously, the service was bad. It appeared they realized it, as servers would come by asking if all was ok.
While the food was fine, our experience was hampered by the poor service. It was not a busy time.
We've been to Trio multiple times and I can say I have NEVER had a meal that is less than outstanding. Menu items change often enough to make it interesting, and the ambiance is warm and inviting (especially on a rainy fall day in New England). Creative drink menu as well.
Our visit to Trio was good, but not as good as we remember. The service by our waiter left a lot to be desired, but it was very busy. He seemed to pay much more attention to a party of 5 than our party of 2. The noise level was pretty high, but not so we couldn't hold a conversation. The food was good, but something seemed to be missing. We've had awesome dinners there before and never had a complain. Would go again for another try.
Food at Trio is always outstanding and the service top notch. Their recently expanded bar area looks tempting - though it did not open until 2:30 on the Sunday we were there. This restaurant continues to be one of our favorites. Consistent, creative food in a fairly quiet atmosphere with great wine and beer selections.
