My friends and I were the only ones in the restaurant at 1p for lunch, which felt kind of weird. My friend asked for wine and the waiter said they didn't have any "bread service" but managed to come up with some after awhile. I ordered a cobb salad with grilled prawns and it was good. Nothing special about our experience.
Trellis used to be one of our favorite places for happy hour. Great Food and happy hour items.
The dinner menu used to have a lot of options also. The menu has changed and I believe due to management change as well. The food is not bad at all mind you, very good but all of our favorite items are no more. The menu is very scaled down and not a lot of choices. Makes us very sad because we loved the old menu and food. Not sure how often we will be going there now
We were here on Halloween night so it was very quiet. We did the 3 for $33 dinner for Restaurant Week. This is the first time we've been here since the chef change and menu redo. Our reaction -- meh. The food preparation was rather uninspired. Very disappointed because this used to be one of our favorite restaurants.
My hubby has Mondays off and many of the places we like to go are sadly closed or just a bit fancy for me tonight. We had the usual debate about some of our favorite places and none resonated with me. While looking on Open table I see that the Trellis has prime rib night on Sunday and Monday nights(sorry, not sorry! I'm a big meat eater partially because I love it and partially because I can't eat grains, legumes and a host of other things) So I eagerly make a reservation, the hubs not as eager (he wanted pasta) We usually have breakfast, lunch or happy hour here, first time for dinner. Not very crowded (it's restaraunt week) I took a look at the restaraunt week menu, looks good but I already know what I want. My hubs ordered a bottle of wine which is 1/2 price on Sunday and Monday's too! (Not all bottles) I opted for a speciality margarita.....and had two. (Don't judge, it's date night.) Beef and booze, happy dance! We split a salad which I must go back for and eat it all to myself. (I'll post a pic) The prime rib was perfect but not the sides(my wacky diet limitations) I asked if I could omit the sides(My hubby had them ant they were delish!) I instead asked for the celeryroot puree (wowza!) and brussel sprouts. Hubs had the almost start to top off the meal and I just had coffee. Great service, great food and no problems with my requests due to my dietary restrictions. This could possibly be our new go-to place on Monday evenings. (Plus they take passport card)
Last time we were at Trellis for brunch....the service was totally unacceptable. I have since been back for a friend's birthday lunch and Jason was our waiter. The service was impeccable! This time, we went back to celebrate 2 birthday lunches with another couple. We got Jason as our waiter and this time the service and the food were excellent. When I made the reservations, I noted that we were celebrating 2 birthdays and that one of them was a 70th. I thought we'd get something "special" from the restaurant...even if just a note at our table. But we got nothing. Most restaurants will give a small birthday dessert with a candle or something. Nothing. A bit disappointing, especially for the 70th birthday. But it won't stop us from going back another time. The food is creative and tasty!
The 5 of us had the Restaurant Week special. Everything we had was great. Squash soup, beet salad, pork cheeks, risotto, and scallops. The berry crisp was good but the pear almond tart was outstanding. Loved the chardonnay flight. We had to wait for our initial drinks a bit, and had to call waiter over to order. He was professional but not friendly-ish. Overall, everyone was impressed and we will definitely be back.
Both food and service were not great. The server was distracted and was not attentive even the restaurant was not busy. There was problem with one of brunch item which got corrected but not handles professionally, and also for the other dish, the egg was very under cooked. We were disappointed and doubt we will be coming back to this restaurant.
This is our second time at Trellis and once again it did not disappoint. My pork chop was grilled the way I like it. The chop was large, a full meal and with a side of carrots was perfect. My wife ordered the half chicken which she said was the best she has had anywhere. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and patient. Trellis is on our favourite restaurant list.
I went to his restaurant for brunch with a friend. The food was marginal but certainly not worth paying $18 for an omelet. The Sausage, tomatoes and cheese were cooked together and put on my plate. The egg was then fried and then placed on top of all the items. I was expecting the sausage, tomatoes and cheese to be mixed in the omelet. I think it was way overpriced for the food that I got.
This was, unfortunately, the worst visit I have had to Trellis. I was meeting my sister & aunt for brunch to celebrate their birthdays. I had the salmon eggs benedict, which was good, except for the very watery whites on the poached eggs (which is just gross). My sister had the steak skillet which was not very good. My aunt had the mushroom skillet which she liked. Our guess was that our server was new, as he did not seem very familiar with the menu. So, luckily this was not our first time at this restaurant, or we likely would not come back. We'll try again, before we make that decision.
We have been here a number of times for Easter and birthday brunch celebrations with our family that includes young children. This time we came on Sept 2 in the evening to celebrate the grandmother's birthday celebration. Outdoor seating was requested when the reservation was made but we were seated inside. There were not many people in the restaurant but very close to us was a table of 8-10 women in their 30's. They were VERY LOUD making it difficult for us to communicate. Only advantage is we didn't have to worry about how much noise the children made because five kids couldn't outshout them. They seated us at tables that were separated from each other by about 12 inches. We had to asked to have them pushed together so we could feel like we were together, not separated. Food was OK but not as good as brunch items and selection was very limited. Organic Mixed green salad was not great, too much vinegar in dressing. Overall it was a disappointment for the price and we should have chosen a different restaurant. I wonder if the chef has changed and what has happened to one of our "go to" places. Certainly did not meet expectations. I would give 3 stars out of 5 because breakfast/brunch and happy hour have been enjoyable.
We had always enjoyed this restaurant in years past. Not so now! Food highly overpriced, low quality and missing the flavors, quality, innovation and panache of the former chef. This "new" concept is totally lacking-- as evidenced by the crowds elsewhere in town , but absolutely NO ONE else in the restaurant. I'd look for it to close before long....not one thing special at all. A real shame for Heathman, too.
Despite reservation, had excessive wait for table. Longer wait for service and an hour wait for meals to be served. Asked to speak to manager and he never came by. Food was outstanding, well worth returning for, except the delays don't merit going back.
The food was excellent! We started with 3 appetizers (the olives, meat platter and the fried Beechers cheese - who would have thought fried cheese could be so good!). Then 3 of us had the scallops - 4 large scallops cooked to perfection and we loved the corn with bacon they were served on. The 4th person got the halibut and was very happy too. They didn't have our first choice of wine but we were happy with the substitute even though we got another kind for our second bottle. The desserts were great too especially the peanut butter and chocolate cookies. We took out of town friends who are real foodies and they were impressed! We got a booth and it was quiet enough for a conversation. Can't wait to go back!
Underwhelming Dining in Kirkland: I've been to Trellis 4-6 times since it opened (over a decade ago?). Despite the positive reviews, every time I've been, the service is sluggish and the food is just OK. There is nothing special, farm-to-table, creative. And the waitstaff do not seem very enthusiastic or engaged. There are many better choices in and around Kirkland.
Had been to Trellis as favorite when kids lived in Kirkland many times. After a year's absence was looking forward to those pistachio ice cream sandwiches. Please bring those back! We enjoyed the breakfast and look forward to the Trellis burger, our other favorite, soon.
What a shame. Trellis had always been the biggest disappointment in Kirkland for us, so to hear that the place had a new executive chef we were eager to try. A dumbed down menu a la Gordon Ramsey should have helped make the service a slam dunk but not so fast... indeed not so fast, missing entrees slow to arrive cocktails (I was watching there bar tender and have no idea what he was doing) it wasn't even that busy. I'm afraid we won't be back for a while...
I miss the old menu and the old chef. The new menu and chef have some interesting items on the menu, but it's no longer a great "date night" farm to table experience. Even the happy hour menu has shrunk and all of my old go-to faves are gone. Don't get me wrong, the food is still very good as is the service, and we'll continue coming but more for a good meal than for a special dinner as it was before.
In these days of overdone superlatives, "Good" should not be a failing mark. And it isn't. Trellis offers decent food, attractive wine bargains, friendly staff and a good location with plenty of adjacent parking. Trellis is a better than average restaurant for being in a hotel (the Heathman.) I suspect it's exactly what the hotel management needs: good food at a decent price, not too bleeding edge.
If that's damming with faint praise, well, it's also better than most restaurants in Kirkland, where location trumps culinary talent/effort and value. It may not be the place where you're uber-foodie friends will swoon with the sheer exoticness of it all, but if you need a place to meet with friends and be assured that the food is reasonably priced, offers good value and that the evening would be enjoyable, well, Trellis should be on your short-list.
First time here for brunch and we were very pleased. My wife started off with a Memosa which she was very happy with. I had a bloody Mary which was topped off with an olive, pickle, cocktail onion, asparagus and a lime. It was very good but on the verge of being too spicy. We both had eggs benedict which were spectacular. The egg yolks were runny as we had requested, the potatoes were perfectly cooked. Service was great. This is one of our very favorite restaurants.
