We dined at 5 pm and we were the only ones there. The service was extremely slow and the server wasn't very attentive. We eventually had to call him over to find out where our entrees were since others, who came in much later than we did, were served and ours were nowhere to be found. We were told they had a large party to get out. Then why were other diners served before us? I had the pignoli crusted scallops and the nuts were charred which gave a bitter taste to the dish. Not a great experience, and certainly not for the prices that were charged.
For this to be an Italian restaurant, it was nothing special. Service was dreadful. From being ignored for a period of time, to no follow up once food came, to not receiving drinks ordered but being charged for them (but I had it corrected). The restaurant was not crowded so not sure what could justify the dreadful service.
Perfect place for a Friday night date with my wife. Starting with the appetizer, the entire meal was delicious, the service was great, the wine tasty, the entire evening was better then we expected. We would definitely go back, and highly recomment this restaurant.
My white cloth napkin had a dime-size hole in it with encrusted food particles hanging from it.
The silverware contained in this napkin was spotty and water stained.
The ceramic bread plate had a black ring around the edge. The black substance came off in my hand as I picked up the dish.
I pointed these items out to the waitress. She apologized and came back with new items.
The bowl containing risotto had a large chip in the lip. I also told the waitress about this but decided to still eat from this dish.
I was still charged regular price, no discount or comp was offered and no one from Management even spoke to us about our concerns. Very disappointed.
Not a great way to spend an anniversary meal!
They need to get a new chef, one who knows how to cook and how to insist on starting with good quality food. The best food (we were a table of 4 - all with different meals) was the wine. Service needs more instruction -- asked for lemon for our water and it was brought to our table on a paper napkin.
We came for the food and it did not measure up. Our waitress was good, sorry that she and the wine were the only good parts.
A personal note -- Why the TV staring you in the face? Please, this was not supposed to be a sports bar! Can't we have a meal without TV? We do still know how to talk to each other. A bar doesn't have to be a TV bar.
We dined at Tre Piani again last nite. Friday night at 8 and the place was 80% empty. How can this be? The decor is absolutely beautiful, the staff friendly and ample parking.
We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer, the waiter told us they burned them and had to re-cook them.... within a minute the meatballs were served... Yes they sent out the burned meatballs!!!!!! I purposely stabbed one with my fork before I called over the hostess to show her how burned they were. She agreed and took them back to the kitchen. Within 2-3 minutes the meatballs were returned to the table under a layer of tomato sauce and sprinkled with not really melted mozzarella cheese. Upon scraping off the sauce and cheese there it was....THE SAME BURNED MEATBALL I HAD STABBED WITH MY FORK.... IN A WEAK ATTEMPT TO DISGUISE THE BURNED FOOD. SUPER LOW CLASS MOVE.
Not to mention on a Friday nite they were out of
-pork osso bucco
and those are only the things we know of.
The seafood grill only had 1 shrimp and the tuna and salmon were so either old or overcooked that my wife could not tell which was which.
Being as they were out of the pork I got the filet mignon which was perfect. Zero complaints about my meal.

Great service by Jessica on this rainy night...dashed hopes of eating outside. The bread basket is very nice. We shared a special appetizer of zucchini blossoms, one of my favorite dishes. This plate didn't disappoint! Dinners were a special of salmon over a corn risotto and chicken Milanese. Both portions were generous and quite tasty. All washed down with a bottle of Oberon Sauvignon Blanc.
Our group of (11) had a good time at Tre Piani. I made the reservation about a month in advance for a Monday evening business dinner using Open Table and re-confirmed via phone with the restaurant one week prior. I received a reminder email about our reservation a couple of days in advance, as well as a call from the restaurant the day-of requesting a reservation confirmation and headcount. When we arrived, we were greeted by the hostess and our server for the evening, Josh. Josh was professional and handled our group with great service. However, it appeared that Josh was the only server and possibly the only bartender working. Realizing that this was a Monday night and less busy, I understand only staffing one server, but there should have at least been a bartender helping out with drink orders. The service was a bit slow, but that's only because Josh was hustling to get 11 orders ready. Once we ordered our food, it came out quickly and hot and it was delicious. I gave 4 out of 5 stars on everything except the service because our group did have to wait awhile for drinks, dessert and the bill, but understandably when only one person is doing it all. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to others for business dinners and we'll plan to be back again.
Lovely ambience. The arugula salad was very light and refreshing. Tuna steak was great. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. My friend thought the pistachio crusted scallops were amazing. Penne with filet was not up to other dishes. Nice desert selection.
Always a pleasure to dine here...unfortunately weather didn't cooperate for outdoor eating. We shared the meatballs to start. Dinners were a swordfish special and crispy spaghetti, which used to be one the menu. The new version is different from the past if you are a fan, but it was tasty in a different way. We washed it all down with an excellent Sauvignon blanc from chile. A very nice evening!
I think the restaurant has good ambience. But, Very disappointed at the quality of the food and how they were prepared. The pizza had no salt and it's hard to imagine it's intended to be bland with no saltines for a pizza. All the food came out lukewarm so the seafood tasted fishy. Four of us spent more than $120 for lunch and the food didn't sit well in our stomachs afterwards either. I would not go back again.
Absolutely awful experience. My wife came to visit the restaurant for happy hour followed by dinner reservations. We informed the bartender and asked for the bill and he very aggressively and in appropriately told me wife that she can't bring the rest of her drink with her to dinner about 25 feet from the bar. I then just paid the bartender and advised him to take it easy, so that it doesn't escalate. The manager barely spoke English and was very unprofessional. Our waiter advised that she wears many hats and is quite the witch with a B on it. After we were seated it took so long for them to even get me a glass of wine so we left without notice and will never return. We went to an amazing steakhouse and had a wonderful evening. Tre piani has lost its touch that it since had, I actually hosted many company holiday parties there, but we will be taking our business elsewhere.
We were concerned when reading reviews, but we had a nice meal last night. The only issue was our $15 salad was tiny, barely worth $5 and very salty. The tuna was excellent and plentiful but my husband's scallop dish was on the small side (4 scallops) with too much oil around them.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. During my first and last visit here the food was bad; the fish my wife ordered had awful taste; my scallop's dish was overcooked, the bread was stale; new parent beware this restaurant charges an open food fee to feed your kid a baby food even though we had also ordered food from the kids menu our daughter did not like; and lastly the drink menu came with bugs so I decided to skip the drinks... Never going here again.
This is one of the best Italian meals I have ever had - no really. I ate the Homemade Fettuccine with Lobster Sauce, Lemon, Butter, Rosemary, Garlic ($15 half/$29 full). This was a creamy flavorful dish. The homemade fettuccine was amazing and the amount of the lobster in this dish was generous.
My co-worker had the Crispy Spaghetti, Shrimp, Prosciutto, Saffron Cream ($12 half/$23 full). Her meal - which I tasted - was amazing! We have to return to Princeton in November and this will be our first stop. Ask for Anthony as your server. He is great!
The best thing about this restaurant was the beautiful sun coming in from the top windows, giving some life to the decor and Venetian paintings.

The wine and drinks were passable (not their doing) food was below avarage at best, service was SLOOWWWW and absolutely not interested in informing us of items no longer available.
And to top at all, they charged us 20% gratuity to an already overpriced dining experience.
Amazing food and lovely atmosphere, but it's like they forgot we existed. We had to wait in line even though we were on time for our well-in-advance reservation, even then our table was not prepared for us. They never filled our waters without us having to ask and then wait five minutes, every time they brought us anything from a menu to an order it was incredibly slow, and they charged us the wrong amount- for a wine we had never ordered. When we asked them to fix it it took nearly 40 minutes for them to recalculate the bill!
