Having been twice now to Tray Kitchen and recommending it highly to others I was shocked when we arrived on Friday only to learn that the next night was going to be its last! The chef/owner is closing to focus on his other two restaurants. SO SAD!! I loved the concept and the food of the restaurant from the get go so will be sad to see it go. The staff member I spoke to said a Valencian styled, paella place would be coming in instead. We will see.

Food was just ok. Duck confit and brussel sprout are the better dishes. Most has a Korean flavor to them and after eating here I felt I'd get more for less at a Korean restaurant. Arrived to half empty restaurant with reservations but was asked to wait by the bar for 15 minutes anyway. Food came quickly but didn't get much service after that.

The menu is short but good selections supplemented by "trays" of interesting off-menu items. The tables have a slot for stashing the menu - great idea if you like to go back to the menu and look up an item during the meal. Satisfying and modern.

We had dinner at Tray on the Dine Around promotion, so we had a limited menu and didn't try any of the trays that went around. That said, everything we had was so good, and everything we saw on trays looked great. If you ate there, ordering from trays, things might get pricey, but you'd be happy.

Went to Tray for the third time, this time with my brother, who is not fond of Korean food. He loved it! Great flavors, great presentation, great service, interesting mix of menu and rotating dishes. Total winner. And if you don't like it, Frelard pizza next door rocks too!

Start with any of their craft cocktails and you'll be off to a good start. Portion sizes are kind of small but staff is good at suggesting quantities appropriate for number of diners. Fresh Burrata was great!! Korean Fried Chicken (and accompanying kimchI) was tasty and worked well with our group. For large groups (we had 8), it would be nice to have one or two larger rice or noodle dishes. If you have any dietary restrictions, be very specific with your requirements and the staff/kitchen will work with you.

Food was very good. The idea is dim sum where you order a couple and then they come around with other options, we only had them come around with 2 options which was disappointing. Our reservation began at 830 and they close at 10, so I would recommend going during prime time earlier to take advantage of the tray options.

Hidden gem for foodies in Frellard. If you love flavorful food and creative dining (think dim sum options) then hurry to Tray Kitchen before its discovered by the masses. We tried lots of different veggie and protein items and all were winners. Didn't even have room for dessert. A rarity.

Menu just ok. Execution of dishes just ok. Chef tossed finished dishes across his bench haphazardly. Cocktail was a super boring old fashioned. Servers were only attentive when attempting to clear plates that weren't finished. This happened at least 4 times. I guess an 830 reservation is late for them because it felt like they couldn't wait for us to just finish and leave. Not recommended.

Tray kitchen was good but not great. The concept is a cool idea but less so in actuality. All they had were salads on the side and the one we had was just ok. Dessert too.

Concept for Korean style tapas and small freshly made salad coming around like Dim Sum is interesting. We ordered about 6 dishes, but all dishes were just too salty, and nothing special taste. Service was not great although we could see many people were working on Friday night. We had to ask even for water twice.... Not recommending to my frineds at all.

Perhaps I just picked the wrong items though we had several. There was a salmon small plate that was not on the menu that I quite enjoyed . Also the cocktails were good. Otherwise the food was much less interesting and well executed than I expected. Would not recommend and don't plan to go back.

The food was very good and I love the concept of ordering off a menu and being enticed with items freshly prepared from the kitchen and offered to diners on a tray. You definitely want to go here with a dining partner who likes to share...mine did not so I will be back to take full advantage of what they have to offer. The Korean Fried Chicken was great but hard to eat and one of the wings had splintered bones which could be potentially dangerous.

Fun, hot spot in Fremont but had a few disappointments. I love sharing small plates so we can try different things but a few items were better than others. I had to send the pork chop back because it was so dry and overcooked, we couldn't eat it. Other dishes were great. It is fun they come by with different salads/small dishes that you can take or not so it is a great way to try new things. Our server had quite a few mix ups as well but still a fun place to go.

The bad news is that the slow service kept us from eating some of the great food, since many dishes are brought table to table on trays. We were offered two trays as soon as we sat down, and weren't offered any again until we had dessert on the table. So, that gimmick isn't working so well. Also, we arrived early for our 8pm reservation and waited until 8:40 to be seated. Why even bother with reservations? Anyway, I would come back for the food. The duck fried rice was AMAZING and everything else we had had really great flavors.

Tray had great reviews.... but their execution is dismal. First, off they need significant sound proofing. I had to yell to get through to my partner across the table. The music was too load, but even after they turned it down, the yelling patrons made it nearly impossible to have a conversation. Tray has a small menu with items in the $20 dollars range, that are cooked close by and can be delicious. They also bring mostly non-proteins around by Tray. Hence the name - but while we were there for 90 minutes, only three trays came by. And the items on one tray were a repeat of a previous tray. So we only saw two trays and never could get nay word about what might be coming. There was no way to plan an experience. The host (was there one) was unable to process the OpenTable "gift" $20 that we brought... but they did take it off the price for us anyway. Unfortunately they were not trained. I think Tray was understaffed on our night... but still, the inability to guess what was coming was truly upsetting. We sat for over 30 minutes at the start waiting for something, anything to eat. What we did taste was very nice - but everything was hot in flavor. There needs to be a selection to handle those who do not tolerate lots of garlic and/or hot flavors.

My husband and I had a delightful time here for a rainy midweek dinner, learning about choosing among the unusual offerings. We wish we could have ordered twice as much, thanks to the roving dim sum trays. We've already recommended the place to others.

Our second visit was equally as enjoyable as the first so this could be an indication Tray Kitchen will be consistently good. The dishes were creative and delicious, service was timely and the atmosphere lively. We ordered the duck confit fried rice, grilled octopus and butter poached broccoli with rice cakes from the main menu as we loved them last time. The rest of our dinner was from the trays they brought table side. All were good, but the Korean style BBQ ribs were stellar. There was a great looking salmon tartar with crispy skin that came on a tray, but we were too full by then, so had to pass. Maybe next time!

Went on Friday night, but early with a reservation. Lots of interesting and tasty choices. Waiter was a little inattentive and distracted. Food was very good and enjoyed the tray offerings. Would be fun with a group as you could try everything!

What a nice surprise to find a new favorite during Seattle Restaurant Week. Exceptional service, great cocktails, and am impressive SRW menu. Tray dishes included kale salad and tuna cured in soy sauce. Will come again!

The Tray Kitchen is a foodie's heaven - very unique, well-balanced dishes that are hard to find. They have a great concept of a main menu paired with dim-sum style small plates made from whatever is in season/available... and it's all good. Not one bad dish out of the five-plus ordered by my party. The drinks are also delish and our server made excellent pairing suggestions. The restaurant is on the loud side, but it adds to the fun and works well.

Love the idea if trays brought dim sum style. But the tables are too close together making it difficult for servers to maneuver. Vibe is good for the neighborhood it's in. Service was ok. Didn't get much attention from the waitstaff. And we ordered drinks that we never received.

Our food was yummy and the drinks were appropriately complex. What made the night for us was the warm reception the staff gave to me and my wife as we celebrated our recent pregnancy. We cant wait to take friends!

We made a reservation here for Restaurant Week! My husband and I were so excited to go. It was so amazing. The food was so beautiful and so delicious! Every dish we eat left us wanting more. Plus the smaller tray dishes that cam around was a fun way to experience many different items. The space is clean and modern which I love in restaurants. I will definitely be back, especially for happy hour.

Found the restaurant on Yelp!, booked using Open Table, and loved that we were able to use Apple Pay! The restaurant itself is laid out nice, its cool to be able to see the kitchen, options for bar seating as well as front row center of the kitchen. Our hostess explained the experience well, and we were eager to dive in. Service was bit "frantic". The gentleman who came and took care of our drink order spoke very quickly and seemed rushed. Granted the restaurant was busy, but not too busy to take a breath and say hello. Also, didn't write any of the things we ordered down. It an awesome concept of having "trays" presented to you dim sum style, very clearly described and presented. It was also nice to order some things off of a set menu. So delicious! All of it! Drinks took a REALLY long time to come. We had had two dishes before they came, we were told "those drinks will be right out" about three times. Here come the drinks, and then we were asked again what we ordered off the menu because they hadn't been written down, and I guess also not ordered. No biggie, just a little weird, we were not there to rush, however it set the tone for service. We had baby-back ribs, fresh fish, bone marrow, grilled sourdough with kimchi butter, roasted cauliflower with sriracha and so many other delicious things. A true off the path idea! We will come back absolutely for the food. I hope the service can calm down and relax, otherwise that may put a damper on it.

Waiter seemed a bit aloof. One guest had cider and when asked if he wanted another and then brought a Pilsner. An additional Pilsner was also brought later that was not asked for but we politely accepted as to not cause a scene. Worst part was at the end where we received another tables check instead of ours. Had I not seen the price difference when looking at my check via open table I would have paid it without double checking. Our bill was higher after the correction so Tray could have lost money. Everyone but the main server was great. Felt very prejudged by the main server but not anyone else.

We had reservations for an early Saturday dinner so we ordered some items from the Happy Hour menu, like $1.50 Shigoku oysters, perfect and sweet. The server reported their SSAM is popular with Painted Hill Hanger Steak so we had a HH portion, wrapping the tasty beef in lettuce. Grilled Spanish Octopus was tender but I didn't care for the bland zucchini around the plate. Off the regular menu, we loved the duck confit fried rice topped with 2 soy cured egg yolks, and the butter poached shrimp, broccoli and rice cake. Both dishes had good strong flavors from their sauces. My favorite flavor was the sticky, chili caramel glaze on the Korean Fried Chicken wings. It's a little messy to eat with your hands so they provide wet wipes for clean up, but it's worth the work. If you don't order too much food off the menus, you can treat yourself to the surprising and yummy dishes they bring around throughout your meal tempting you to order/eat more. There was buratta laced with pickled radish, blackened grilled carrots in a pesto and yogurt, cauliflower in a sriracha sauce cooled by a thick pool of herb inflected yogurt, to give you an idea of what the kitchen might send out. We enjoyed most of the dishes and can't wait to go back to sample more tray surprises next time. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. The friend who recommended Tray Kitchen to me had the same wonderful experience so they are consistent in delivering good food and service.

Tray kitchen's food was very good, if not exceptional. However, the service was lousy. They call them "Trays" but we only saw 3 trays during the 90 minute visit. Twice they forgot our dinner order, leaving us to nibble on whatever trays came by. Granted, they comp'd us one of the dinner dishes we ordered but a 45 minute meal turned into a 90 minute journey. On the other hand, the food was excellent. The tray of green beans with black beans was as good as I have ever had. The fried rice with duck confit was devine. I just wish the service would match. Hopefully, if we go again, the next visit will be better.

Delicious, creative, NW local, small plate dining with a fun twist - food is brought around on dim sum type trays and you grab what looks good. Everything we tried was great, from spicy roasted cauliflower to fresh sashimi with veggies to kale caeser to BBQ Korean chicken wings. We'll definitely go back for more.
