The food is very good. We were 4 and all had something different. Prices are reasonable. Our concerns are that the room is very tight-tables are right on top of each other and that it is so
extremely loud. We could not hear our own conversation as our four top was adjacent to two parties of six. Its a shame that the noise level is so high. The service-waitress and busser professional.
Wow. never had a bad meal here! amazing flavors and many many gluten free options which is so nice. I was so happy to finally eat onion soup again since I've been gluten free I can never order it because even if a restaurant leaves out the slice of bread there is always a little flour in the soup base. This soup was excellent and my brisket had amazing flavor. Everyone loved what they ordered - pork chops, shrimp dish, etc.. Very eclectic menu. my only issue with this place is it is WAY TOO DARK. I like to actually SEE what i'm eating especially when its this good! I hope the owners read this review and somehow add more light in there. it is BY FAR the darkest place I've ever eaten. You can never take older people because they wouldn't like it at all. Maybe I'll start doing take outs there so I can come home and see the beautiful food! but other than that its one of the best places in Montgomery county to eat.
Very disappointed we had to pay for bread. However we thought for $3 we would buy it. It arrived with 4 bite size pieces and a spread. We felt since we are now paying for bread the portions should be larger. Certainly not worth paying for
Food was excellent, however, we were very taken aback by the new policy of not providing bread for the table. We agreed to order the $3 bread order with dip and were unhappy with the quality received as we were hoping for something substantial to dip into our dinner sauces. I cannot imagine it costs that much to provide a simple order of bread - even if they just upped the entree prices by a couple of dollars to offset that.
We frequent Ambler restaurants but had never been to Trax. I had heard and read good reviews so decided to make a reservation. The staff was friendly and welcoming upon arrival. The menu was diverse, and the specials interesting. The food was outstanding - the best meal in Ambler and beyond! Fresh ingredients, expert preparation, and 4 satisfied customers. We even had a visit from the chef to top off the evening. A great experience in Ambler!
We always enjoy Trax. We had a table for two on the back patio. The appetizer was delicious and so were the entrees. First time I had lemon mouse for dessert and it was wonderful. It actually had lemon zest in it. Our waitress was also fantastic - you enjoy dinner so much more when you have good services. We keep coming back and intend to come back again.
By far, this is our favorite restaurant in our area. Indoors is not too noisy, and outdoors is quiet until a train goes by (which is not frequent). Since this is an old train station, this is to be expected and is part of the ambience. Inside there are a small number of tables nicely spaced, and a view of the small kitchen in the back.
The food is great and reasonably priced. The owner/chef has been there for 25 years and always seems to have something new on the menu, and every dish we have had there has been very enjoyable. I can't say this about any other restaurant - any.
The owner has a green thumb and grows many of his ingredients on the grounds. The fennel is amazing (and plentiful - you can sample it) and the grape vine is astonishing.
Also, we have always had very good service from his staff. They are friendly, responsive and very willing to accommodate special requests. For instance, we once went with someone a little hard of hearing and they brought us to a table that was ideal for him. In this last visit, our waitress brought a cushion for someone who wanted to sit a little higher and when she overheard a comment about a birthday, brought a special treat at the end of the meal.
This is a BYOB, common in our area, and with the moderate prices on the menu, the excellent service and the great food, this is a place that is easy to love. I think we only go to other places so that we don't feel we've fallen into a rut.
(And parking: there's plenty!)
We waited a full 20 minutes before the four of us were seated even though we had a reservation. It is irksome to stand in the small entranceway while other inconsiderate diners are well past eating their dinner and are sitting there taking selfies, looking at photos on each other's cell phones and sipping their wine like they could care less. The wait staff should be more assertive in letting these type customers know that other diners are waiting for a table. They could give a hint by removing plates and glasses and using body language that says "It's time for you to leave". We got to a point where we were staring at these individuals when finally one them got the hint and coaxed the others to pay the bill and leave.
This was our first visit to this quaint BYOB! We will be back often. The food was exquisite. Staff were all very friendly. We ate outdoors right on the railroad tracks, a few trains went by which was fun, otherwise a quiet scenic spot. Inside was elegant! We asked if they were dog friendly and were assured that yes dogs are welcome outside, though none were there that night.
Went on a Saturday night, first time dining at this establishment. The menu is limited to a few appetizers and main courses. After a few minutes of looking at the menu we made up our minds in what we would like to try. When our waitress came over to take our order she informed us that they were out of one appetizer ( there is only three to choose from) and out of 2 main courses( only six to choose from) and of course it was what we had in mind. This was on a Saturday night and the restaurant wasn't that busy. Sad to say this is a one and done for us. Too many other great restaurants in Ambler.
I had not been there for a couple of years, but the unique ambience of this train stop restaurant and the quality of the food were as great as ever. It was a beautiful evening and perfect for the outdoor tables. I had taken a friend out who also used to dine here very often with her late husband. She enjoyed seeing Steve, the owner, again and it brought back fond memories for her. We are both "tasters" and fortunately, there were several excellent appetizers and sides which we shared, as well as desserts. We will definitely come back again, especially while the nice weather lasts.
The ladies of my family have a dinner every year and each of the four of us take turns picking out the restaurant. This year it was my turn and I couldn't wait to announce my selection of Trax. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. My sister said the guspascho was really fresh and all of our meals were so delicious, especially those of us who ordered the crab cake with sweet corn truffle sauce.
Chef Waxman, once again, you did NOT disappoint! Thank you for a wonderful evening.
As we've come to expect, our group of seven was treated to an excellent meal with prompt and attentive service on a busy Saturday night during Restaurant Week in Ambler. Such consistency has made The Trax Restaurant and Cafe a 'favorite' among the many dining options in the area.
It was Restaurant Week in Ambler. It was a price fixe of $40.00 pp. If the meal had been good, no problem.
They referred to it as 4 courses. The " first course" was bread. It consisted of 4 Melba size pieces of toast with a vegetable spread. It was small, to say the least and calling it a
" course", get real!
My husband's salad was fine, but small. I did enjoy my gazpacho. The main course again, was small. The veggies were the highlight.
Dessert was a lemon mousee, in dire need of more refrigeration. It should not have been served at room temperature.
The flies flitting around through the entire meal were distracting and very unappetizing.
This meal was not worth the price.
Food was delicious and we were able to sit outside despite the rain. The evening cooled off nicely and it is much quieter outside aside from the trains passing by.
Our table however was too close to the one behind us and when that table was seated they banged into us and were right on top of us for the duration of their meal. Not a good thing.
We ate here a few weeks ago & enjoyed it so much that we decided to come back and dine again. The 7 minute egg appetizer with bacon jam was off the charts along with the radicchio salad & gnocchi with sausage. Soft shell crabs delicious! Outdoor dining perfect! A great BYOB restaurant in the neighborhood with plenty of free parking. Staff very attentive.
