Great service and food. Top notch
Great meal last night. The chef even had some excellent chopped liver and matzoh available for anyone celebrating Passover, very thoughtful! Excellent meals for my wife and I on a date night :)
Wonderful to find a restaurant that is truly gluten free. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu. Food was amazing, husband said best meal he’s had in a long time. Thank you!
Great food, great chef, fun place to dine. Fresh ingredients, excellent menu choices, cozy atmosphere, service moderately slow on Saturday night but pleasant and friendly.
We’ve been to Trax in the past and have loved it. However, this visit was extremely disappointing. The service was sub par. Our waitress was inattentive, abrupt, and “forgot” to tell me that the kitchen made a substitution to one of the main features of my entree. It took her a very long time to come back to check in on our table after initially placing the entrees. We were more than halfway through our meal before seeing her, again. When I finally had the opportunity to question her about the substitution she said “oh, I forgot to mention it”. The entree was supposed to come with fava bean hummus and instead came with cheesy grits (which I don’t like). One of the main reasons I chose the dish was for the fava bean hummus. As a person with a food allergy it also dawned on me that never once was it considered that I may be allergic or simply might not like or want the entree anymore based on their substitution. As it turns out, I don’t like grits so I was really left with a pile of poorly seasoned roast pork and a few green beans. The appetizers were fine but underwhelming and odd. The choices seemed better suited as sides than appetizers. Overall, the food was mediocre at best and definitely not worth the price. The restaurant was also so noisy we had a hard time talking. It also felt like our waitress was screaming at us when she told us about the specials and took our order. We are not fussy people and it pains me to give a bad review. Unfortunately, this one is warranted. What was supposed to be a special night out turned out to be a big disappointment.
I used to be a big fan of Trax but the service and food quality have declined markedly. Our waitress was initially quite abrupt. She didn't change her tone until I told her to repeat the desert choices slowly. When I asked her about ingredients in several dishes she grudgingly answered my questions as though she was doing me a favor. My friend had the pork dish and I had the beef and both were fairly bland. There was no salt or pepper on the table and we weren't offered ground pepper. Not sure it would have helped the dishes much but it couldn't have hurt.
The food and service was great. The restaurant however was cold sitting by the window
Trax has been a favorite restaurant for my friends and me for years. Creative and delicious food and great cozy spot with outdoor options.
Our experience was not the best. After being seated and given menus it was 25 minutes before anyone asked if we were ready to order. (Another 5 mins and we would've left.) It was very cold there, and we noticed many fellow diners had their coats on. The building used to be a railroad station which was neat, with interesting features, but the lighting was very poor. Our small table was in a hallway, lit by only 2 tiny tealights flat on the table. When the food came, it was impossible to actually see it (other than nondescript lumps on the plate). I was tempted to use my cell phone flashlight app. but was too embarrassed. The food was good but not fantastic - nor quite worth the price. Perhaps we've been spoiled by too many better local restaurants.
Vegetarian option was quite boring- Vegetable plate. Expect more in 2018 !
Amazing food. Servers were super friendly and helpful. We had an amazing time.
We had the rack of lamb and the trout special. Both were cooked to perfection and very tasty! Side of mushrooms complimented our meal perfectly!
The food was outstanding. Nothing left ion our plates. And the sever was right—the chicken was amazing!
Rack of Lamb was the best I’ve had in a long time. Crab cake delicious. Noise level made conversation difficult.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Food and service were great. Will be back again soon
Good food. Small portions. Expensive for New Years ever.
We have been going to the Trax since it first opened back in the 90s. Never a bad meal, always makes us want to come back for more.
Honestly one of best meals we ever had! Went with my daughter who is home from college. Snowy night, we wrrent
Four of us went to celebrate my Birthday. I hadn't been to Trax in several years. Overall, the food was absolutely excellent. I had the rack of lamb, my wife and friends had special fish dishes. All were excellent. Only points against were my dessert - pumpkin mousse that was excellent - until I got around 2/3 of the way to the bottom. Then, it was spoiled - sour/bitter taste. I didn't want a substitute so didn't make a fuss. The service was overall excellent, and we felt no rush. Really enjoyed our 2.5 hour dinner. I will go back!
Awesome food as usual; great service and great tasting food. Quiet evening so noise was very low.
We went for the Christmas Eve feast of the seven fishes and had a great meal. Each course was unique and well executed with lots of flavor and variety, we will be back soon.
Excellent , casual , gourmet, suburban , BYOB, Christmans Eve 7 fish dinner !
She crab soup amd lobster ravioli are out of this world.
why go to city ?
great Job Steve!
Fabulous cuisine! Everything was So tasty and very fresh! Cozy atmosphere!
One of my very favorite restaurants! It is definitely one of the best in Ambler! It never disappoints.
The food is very good. We were 4 and all had something different. Prices are reasonable. Our concerns are that the room is very tight-tables are right on top of each other and that it is so
extremely loud. We could not hear our own conversation as our four top was adjacent to two parties of six. Its a shame that the noise level is so high. The service-waitress and busser professional.
Wow. never had a bad meal here! amazing flavors and many many gluten free options which is so nice. I was so happy to finally eat onion soup again since I've been gluten free I can never order it because even if a restaurant leaves out the slice of bread there is always a little flour in the soup base. This soup was excellent and my brisket had amazing flavor. Everyone loved what they ordered - pork chops, shrimp dish, etc.. Very eclectic menu. my only issue with this place is it is WAY TOO DARK. I like to actually SEE what i'm eating especially when its this good! I hope the owners read this review and somehow add more light in there. it is BY FAR the darkest place I've ever eaten. You can never take older people because they wouldn't like it at all. Maybe I'll start doing take outs there so I can come home and see the beautiful food! but other than that its one of the best places in Montgomery county to eat.
Very disappointed we had to pay for bread. However we thought for $3 we would buy it. It arrived with 4 bite size pieces and a spread. We felt since we are now paying for bread the portions should be larger. Certainly not worth paying for
Food was excellent, however, we were very taken aback by the new policy of not providing bread for the table. We agreed to order the $3 bread order with dip and were unhappy with the quality received as we were hoping for something substantial to dip into our dinner sauces. I cannot imagine it costs that much to provide a simple order of bread - even if they just upped the entree prices by a couple of dollars to offset that.
A VERY NICE NEIGHBORHOOD RESTAUANT VARIED MENUE WELPREPARED FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT SERVICE
Great food and service!
Really fantastic food and ambiance. Service was fantastic as well
Very nice place. My friend & I went on a weekday, and the atmosphere was relaxed and quiet. The food was good and the service was friendly but professional. I would not hesitate to return.
We frequent Ambler restaurants but had never been to Trax. I had heard and read good reviews so decided to make a reservation. The staff was friendly and welcoming upon arrival. The menu was diverse, and the specials interesting. The food was outstanding - the best meal in Ambler and beyond! Fresh ingredients, expert preparation, and 4 satisfied customers. We even had a visit from the chef to top off the evening. A great experience in Ambler!
We had a great night. Food and service was excellent.
First time at Trax and it was amazing! Creative menu, great service, cool ambiance. Bonus that it's BYOB. Will definitely be back.
We always enjoy Trax. We had a table for two on the back patio. The appetizer was delicious and so were the entrees. First time I had lemon mouse for dessert and it was wonderful. It actually had lemon zest in it. Our waitress was also fantastic - you enjoy dinner so much more when you have good services. We keep coming back and intend to come back again.
We had an excellent meal, sitting outside and enjoying the warm air and passing commuter trains. This Is a great outdoor venue. We had not been here in a while and did not remember how good the food is. We will be back!
By far, this is our favorite restaurant in our area. Indoors is not too noisy, and outdoors is quiet until a train goes by (which is not frequent). Since this is an old train station, this is to be expected and is part of the ambience. Inside there are a small number of tables nicely spaced, and a view of the small kitchen in the back.
The food is great and reasonably priced. The owner/chef has been there for 25 years and always seems to have something new on the menu, and every dish we have had there has been very enjoyable. I can't say this about any other restaurant - any.
The owner has a green thumb and grows many of his ingredients on the grounds. The fennel is amazing (and plentiful - you can sample it) and the grape vine is astonishing.
Also, we have always had very good service from his staff. They are friendly, responsive and very willing to accommodate special requests. For instance, we once went with someone a little hard of hearing and they brought us to a table that was ideal for him. In this last visit, our waitress brought a cushion for someone who wanted to sit a little higher and when she overheard a comment about a birthday, brought a special treat at the end of the meal.
This is a BYOB, common in our area, and with the moderate prices on the menu, the excellent service and the great food, this is a place that is easy to love. I think we only go to other places so that we don't feel we've fallen into a rut.
(And parking: there's plenty!)
We had a great dinner for our anniversary. We sat outside and enjoyed the evening. The food is always good here but I wish the menu had a few more items to choose from.
