Trax Restaurant & Cafe is a neighborhood eatery that serves a range of classic bistro fare and seasonally-driven menus that reflect the local produce and meats of the Ambler, Pennsylvania region. Trax Restaurant & Cafe has a cozy ambiance and a casual feel while still managing to offer an elegant dining experience.
Start your dinner at Trax Restaurant & Cafe with some butternut squash soup, seasonal farm fresh salad or roasted golden beets with goat cheese. Larger dishes include porcini crusted pan-seared salmon, sweet Italian sausage Pomodoro over penne pasta and braised brisket with country gravy. Desserts include fudge chocolate brownie with raspberry truffle and cheesecake du jour.
One of the best meal I have had in a very long time. The spice infused olive oil with fresh baked bread kicked off an amazing eating experience. The brussel sprouts with bacon lardons were absolutely delicious. The macaroni and cheese with spinach was rich and creamy. For entrees we had the crab cakes with rice and vegetable medley. The portion size was perfect. I couldn't quite finish it after devouring the appetizers. For desert we ordered the cheese cake and chocolate mouse. The mouse was the perfect combination of rich and light. The cheese cake had nice flavor but I couldnt quite nail the texture, it was a bit spongy and cake like as opposed to the traditional creamy texture. Overall the meal was outstanding. The wait staff was friendly and attentive.
The staff is exceptional. The menu is sensational. The attention to customer satisfaction is impeccable. If you haven't been to Trax's in Ambler, go.
Tax has a special place in our hearts. Steve Waxman bought fine farm to table dining to Ambler PA. It remains that way today.
Fridays are still "fish" days for us. On our last Friday visit to Trax, I was anxious to hear the daily specials. When I heard the fish special was Blackened Trout, I knew what I would order. I had it on a previous visit and thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife had the salmon with a cumber sauce. Because she does not like cumbers, she ordered the sauce on the side. But, the sauce was so delicious she finished it! We both had the roasted beets for an appetizer. Another HIT for us!!! We split the brownie sundae for desert. A great way to end another outstanding meal at Trax.
We've been going to the TRAX cafe since it first opened back in the 90's. Have never had a bad meal and enjoy going there more after each time.
Trax has great food and a charming rustic ambience which can be very romantic. The servers are knowledgeable and attentive. We ate outside on a beautiful night; it was perfect. Occasionally while eating inside we have experienced the limitations of the old building and its HVAC system, but the food is always interesting, fresh and well-prepared.
Food always consistently good. The salmon was excellent!!
I have been going to Trax cafe for as long as it's been open. A long time. With my family or just as a romantic dinner, the food just taste delicious and consistent every time!
There usually is something special cooking on the menu that will surprise your tastebuds. Our server Mike took care of us and pleased with the friendly people there.
Everything was very nice except the noise level!!! I could barely hear my husband from across the table! If you're looking for a nice romantic restaurant this isn't the place!!
Lots of fun with very attentive wait staff. Specials were very good and the soup/salad appetizers were fresh and tasty.
They have a really creative dipping oil that they serve with their warmed baguette that consists of olive oil swirled with cayenne - amazing. 😋
Food was very good. Had the onion soup which was outstanding I highly recommend it.
Great food in a cool setting. Service was timely and personal.
We have been there a few times over the past month and each time it is excellent
We visited Trax for dinner on a Saturday evening after making a reservation, which is recommended as the location is fairly small. It is situated in the old train station near downtown, with only about 15 indoor tables. Food and service were excellent; I noted it is a BYOB establishment so come prepared if you want to have wine with dinner. Overall a very nice choice within a small vibrant small town environment.
Happy that Trax takes 10 PM reservations for after show dining either at the Ambler Theater or the Keswick. Menus is eclectic without being bizarre or unnecessarily trendy. Wait staff is always personable & professional.
Remember to BYOB!
My wife and I each had the fluke and the taste was amazing. The meal was so lite that it did not leave us with a full feeling
Always great! Very much appreciate their gluten -free menu options.
Hidden in the Ambler train station, this is a must try. The food is outstanding and the service is terrific! Everyone has a smile on their face and they go out of there way to make sure you have a terrific dining experience! During the warmer months there is outside dining. Do yourself a favor and give it a try!
We had an excellent meal. The salad was excellent and so was my crab cake.
The service was excellent but it was very noisy
excellent, excellent, excellent
Dining in the cozy old train station, a wonderful BYOB menu and plenty of free parking (hard to find in Ambler Borough)
Can't wait to return in a warmer season to taste new menu, sample the produce of local farms.
It had been over 10 years since we'd last been to Trax and nothing's changed. Drafty room that's packs in its customers like sardines. Very dark "mood" lighting made it very hard for everyone to read the menu or see what you were eating. The menu is very light and the food taste was not aligned with the premium prices. My desert and soup were good - not great. My main course was simply bad. My wife didn't care for her's either. Service was ok. Our greeter wasn't very pleasant, but our main server was fine. Getting a refill of water didn't happen. BYOB is tough these days, but at least it was well marked so we weren't surprised by it. While I wish it was better, I'd rate the experience a C- and won't go back.
First time at Trax Restaurant, excellent dinner, quaint restaurant. Will definitely go again!
French Onion Soup was fantastic!
Trax is in an old Victorian Train station, and has a real neighborhoody feel in the Ambler dining scene - quite different from the newer additions to the Ambler scene. We were regulars for a long time - until the menu got stale. Having come back recently, it was nice to see new additions to the menu, along with great old favorites. Their mozzarella, roasted peppers appetizer is delicious, their ribs always good, and homemade mushroom ravioli - amazing. they used to have an incredible risotto that was a FAVE - missed that on the menu! Great atmosphere - not pretentious, comfortable and elegant BYOB - outdoor dining is nice as well. It's a keeper for us! encourage the chef to keep rotating in newer items to keep it fresh for the regulars.
Well balanced menu with numerous entrée choices during restaurant week. Each course at our table of four was deemed to be excellent by our group. Fish was very fresh and original. Service was team oriented and flowed very well. The experience was consistent with our previous visits.
Whenever my husband and I want a special dinner we head to Trax in ambler. It never disappoints! We were there this past Friday. It was Ambler's restaurant week. We had made reservations because we knew it would be busy! Our waiter, Dan, was great. Explained all of the evenings offerings. We both had a terrific lamb dish. The feel of the restaurant with trains going past is always a wonderful evening. One of the most romantic dinners in Ambler!
Food was very good. It's a small room and tables are very close to each other - sometimes to the point of discomfort.
It was a very busy Saturday nite and there were several large groups thus the service from the kitchen was extremely slow. The Server did her best but the kitchen was clearly the issue. I think it would be good to communicate that it will be a little slow or to perhaps bring out something between the appetizer and dinner courses to keep the guests happy.
I like the menu and the Veal Chop and Salmon were delicious. Our dinner mates were not as thrilled with the fish special with the tomato sauce. Beet appetizer was delicious and I would definitely recommend the salads.
We have been to Trax several times and enjoy the food very much. It is in the old train station in Ambler and is very small. As a twosome we were sort of stuck in the corner and didn't love our table. The only other criticism is that the restaurant is too dark! I'm all for ambiance, but like to see my food!
The two of us had dinner New Years Eve at Trax cafe. They had a resevation system that allowed us $40.00 (for the both of us) to be used towards the fixed price cost of our meal. Everything was outstanding including the volume of people in the room with us. In the past, on New Years its been very crowded and loud but not that night. The food and service were outstanding. We eat there often and have never had a bad meal .
Great restaurant for a relaxing dinner with friends or for a romantic dinner. Love that it is. BYOB, easy to have a three course meal without breaking the bank!
Very good food in a nice atmosphere. Good service and byob too
We went to Trax after a movie at Ambler, making it a late dinner at 9:30. The place was hopping and we had to wait a bit but it was worth it. Food was great, and service was very accommodating once we sat down. We will definitely be back.
It's hard to review a restaurant that the noise level was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you! Was the food good ? Hard to say , was trying to concentrate on conversation.
We really enjoyed our meals and dessert. Entrees can be pricey, but service was excellent. We'll definitely go back. Highly recommend for truely gluten free options too.
Terrific little BYOB that serves excellent food. All the main courses are delicious but the meat entrees are especially good including the rack of lamb, pork shank, short ribs, and filet.
This was our second visit to the restaurant in a month. The food was great as usual. Our waitress for both times was Jannelle. She is knowledgable about the menu and her recommendation was appreciated. The second visit we brought friends and they were equally impressed.i
Love the food here! And very cozy and romantic in certain spots of restaurant! Is a little loud but that's ok! We just really enjoy the food and like that it's a byob! We do wish they took Amex- so be sure you come with another card!
Excellent innovative and locally sourced food ... BYOB and wonderful friendly service. Right on Septa RR tracks and fun to see the folks come/go...GR8 food, but definitely save room for dessert!!!
Went to Trax last weekend. It was surprisingly empty for a Sat evening. Food was outstanding. Everyone in our party loved the dishes they ordered. Nice ambiance and was a really nice meal with good friends.
