Trax Restaurant & Cafe Ratings and Reviews
We go to Trax about once per year and in recent years it has gotten better! For example, the food -- while always very good -- was rather salty. But no longer -- our meals were quite delicious.
If the weather is favorable, the outdoor dining experience is great...reminds us of dining in cafes in France.
Hint: Trax is BYOB so start with a cocktail at Bridget's, then take your favorite wine to Trax!
This is a place I've often overlooked in favor of newer, trendier places. I'm not sure why; I went to Trax last night and had an excellent meal. Our server was very good, food was excellent and, while it was perhaps a bit on the pricey side, the quality warranted it. I'll be back again soon!
I've been to "Trax" several times over the years, but my last visit was excellent. The host and the waiter (Karen?) were fun, friendly, and efficient. I enjoyed the bread and oil instead of an appetizer;my friend tried the peppers and mozzarella w/ balsamic drizzle. Delicious! For entrees,I had the crab cake (only one-which surprised me-but was enoughto satisfy after all) with rice and vegetables; he had the rack of lamb (cooked medium-rare as ordered). Everything was excellent. I could have been a vegetarian that night: all the vegetable accompaniments were that good. My friend had the key lime pie for dessert and that, too, was very good. All in all,a great night out. I won't wait so long for my next trip out to Ambler.
One warning: "Trax" can be very noisy; it's housed in an old train station so just be aware.
Trax has a nice ambiance. It's cozy and warm.
However we were disappointed with the food. My pork chop was charred and over cooked. It cost almost $30. The salads were just mixed greens with 2 tiny tomato slices for $10 each. Not a great deal.
Restaurant is extremely noisy when busy. They need some carpet or drapes.
When I saw the menu for an all mushroom dinner, I wondered if the menu would attract patrons. I also noted that the Ambler Mushroom Company was listed as the supplier. I never dreamed that a mushroom farmer would make Ambler its location to grow mushrooms. At least they would be “extra fresh.”
My wife and I decided to give it a try and invited our son and his wife (a vegan) to join us. When we arrived, the restaurant was filled to capacity. We even had to wait for a brief period for a table.
We all thoroughly enjoyed each of the four mushroom courses, from appetizer to entre. It was an enjoyable and interesting dinner. Congratulations to Trax for trying something different!!
We had heard about this restaurant and finally went. It was in a word disappointing. The place is great, service great, but the food was not. The appetizers were fine. Both of us had the new york strip special. The cut was not good- too much gristle. The fat was not trimmed and was not well rendered. The cook was supposed to be medium rare- both were rare and somewhat burnt on the outside (cooked too hot I suppose). The cost is high (>$100 for 2 w/o drinks as it is a byob). I don't mind the cost, but the food has to warrant it. Missed the mark on this night.
One of the best meal I have had in a very long time. The spice infused olive oil with fresh baked bread kicked off an amazing eating experience. The brussel sprouts with bacon lardons were absolutely delicious. The macaroni and cheese with spinach was rich and creamy. For entrees we had the crab cakes with rice and vegetable medley. The portion size was perfect. I couldn't quite finish it after devouring the appetizers. For desert we ordered the cheese cake and chocolate mouse. The mouse was the perfect combination of rich and light. The cheese cake had nice flavor but I couldnt quite nail the texture, it was a bit spongy and cake like as opposed to the traditional creamy texture. Overall the meal was outstanding. The wait staff was friendly and attentive.
Fridays are still "fish" days for us. On our last Friday visit to Trax, I was anxious to hear the daily specials. When I heard the fish special was Blackened Trout, I knew what I would order. I had it on a previous visit and thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife had the salmon with a cumber sauce. Because she does not like cumbers, she ordered the sauce on the side. But, the sauce was so delicious she finished it! We both had the roasted beets for an appetizer. Another HIT for us!!! We split the brownie sundae for desert. A great way to end another outstanding meal at Trax.
Trax has great food and a charming rustic ambience which can be very romantic. The servers are knowledgeable and attentive. We ate outside on a beautiful night; it was perfect. Occasionally while eating inside we have experienced the limitations of the old building and its HVAC system, but the food is always interesting, fresh and well-prepared.
I have been going to Trax cafe for as long as it's been open. A long time. With my family or just as a romantic dinner, the food just taste delicious and consistent every time!
There usually is something special cooking on the menu that will surprise your tastebuds. Our server Mike took care of us and pleased with the friendly people there.
We visited Trax for dinner on a Saturday evening after making a reservation, which is recommended as the location is fairly small. It is situated in the old train station near downtown, with only about 15 indoor tables. Food and service were excellent; I noted it is a BYOB establishment so come prepared if you want to have wine with dinner. Overall a very nice choice within a small vibrant small town environment.
Hidden in the Ambler train station, this is a must try. The food is outstanding and the service is terrific! Everyone has a smile on their face and they go out of there way to make sure you have a terrific dining experience! During the warmer months there is outside dining. Do yourself a favor and give it a try!
