Travelle Kitchen + Bar Ratings and Reviews
Christmas Dinner at Travelle was the best meal we had while we were in Chicago. We had a five course prix fix that was truly outstanding. Started with a fresh hamachi sushi, followed by a pear and greens salad with roasted shallots(yum, yum). We then had scallops that were the best ever. Scallops were seared perfectly, not salty, and set above a purée of parsnips and pork ragout. Sounds odd, but it was divine. Brussels sprouts and crispy kale were the perfect topper. Had a braised short rib that was the perfect balance of the rich meat and sauce. He desserts was a delightful snowball with raspberry and chocolate. The best meal I had while visiting Chicago.
Beautiful Christmas Eve brunch! Asked to be moved to pavilion where afternoon tea is usually served for a gorgeous window view of the bridge to the river. Amazing variety of scrumptious dishes. Ramen, sushi, amazing king crab legs. Carving station with delicious ribeye. Salad bar with so many options! Loved the fresh homemade tacos and tostadas. Belgium waffles like I had in Brussels, fabulous fruit toppings (cherries, yum!). Dessert options were mind blowing, loved the coconut dessert. Adored the hot chocolate bar with choice of toppings! Wish I had another stomach to eat with! Service was impeccable! Compliments to the chefs, servers, and managers of Travelle for a fabulous Christmas 2017 celebration. Great personal touches such as Santa and the manager stopping by our table to greet us.
If you're looking for a place with ambiance but not too much noise so that you and friends can catch up, this is the place. We really enjoyed the Cabernet Sauvignon we ordered by the glass, which in restropect should have just ordered the bottle. Can't remember the name of the vineyard but it was perfect for a mellow evening. Thanks to the staff for their attentive service and friendliness. Happy holidays! Mel
I haven't reviewed a restaurant yet but boy, this restaurant is terrible. I can't believe how they try to sell themselves as this high-dining, quality food place. The dishes were so overpriced and really underwhelming. One entree was scallops for $38 which featured 3 small scallops and about 2 ounces of cauliflower and wild rice. It was ridiculous. The amount of food actually given and the quality was such crap for the price we paid. This restaurant needs to fail.
Came in for friend’s birthday, everyone from the host to the waiter was really friendly. Food options were inventive and delicious. They sent out complementary desserts for my friend and I to celebrate her birthday, was a very nice touch. Will definitely return.
The greeting desk could improve - had specific request through opentable they never checked and were not as friendly as past times , seemed sloppy - when asked for the table requested made I appear they were doing me a favor - unlike past visits
Took 3 attempts to get a hard poached egg but server was great and chef was skilled - somewhere in the middle communication failed
This is a favorite but this occasion the bad greeting to the end was just ok
Came her to have dinner with a friend. It was a really wet day so I arrived drenched. I also rode my bike there so the hostess kindly took my dripping coat, scarf, helmet and shoulder bag that was wrapped in a dripping wet plastic bag.
The room was quite dim and carpeted and I felt immediately at ease. It was pretty loud, so even though there was some carpet to muffle sound, the room could use it on the walls or ceiling.
We ordered empanadas, crispy octopus and pork belly, shrimp ceviche, chocolate cake and 2 glasses each of red wine. Everything was delicious and our waiter attentive and helpful.
I quite like this place but wish it was a bit quieter. I came here for brunch once and was really shocked at the noise level, mostly because my previous visit was for afternoon tea which was very quiet. I will be back if I can snag another coupon. It really is a great deal.
Food was great!!! Service was unreal. Manager goes from table to table checking constantly. I highly recommend the asiago bread. It was so good. The branzino was so tasty it melted in your mouth. My husband enjoyed the porkchops. I have to say the staff surely aims to please.
This was my second visit to Travelle and both times the food and service were exceptional. The prawn entre is my favorite by far, but all the food we had was amazing. The drinks were great and our waiter was attentive without being "too much" Travelle is a little pricey, but I highly recommend for a fantastic meal.
I had a different idea of what this experience would be like. I came to The Langham for afternoon tea for my mother's birthday. It was very quiet with a nice view and I wanted to bring my father here too for his birthday, but instead of tea, I scheduled a breakfast. I wasn't expecting the dining room to be so lively. There were lots of families with children there and it was quite loud. I had to shout to talk to my father. There was also no alcohol on the menu, which I expected.
Regardless, it was a good day because it happened to be Open House Chicago and the Langham was participating so we took advantage of it. I just will think twice about taking a trip here for breakfast. I'll try dinner next time.
The food is always very good. My friend had farm to table selection which was excellent from start to finish. The asiago bread with spread is an all time favorite. The shrimp and pepper rice was outstanding. Every dish is enjoyable.
My unfortunate experience of the evening was the wine selection. When asked if they carried the wine I had last time, the server said they've never had it, but maybe by the bottle. Instead of offering the wine by glass he offered something much more expensive that wasn't worth it.
It was most regrettable that our meal experience was so very disappointing. Management realized that the kitchen could not get their act together on this night, and picked up our food + wine tab. we left a generous tip.
We will try them again, as we often stay at the Langham for a weekend in the city.
In a city with an abundance of restaurant options, this is a stand out. First of all the room is a stunning example of modern decor, open yet with a feeling of intimacy.
The service is casual, friendly and very professional. And the FOOD!! Chef Jarquin is extremely creative in putting together unusual elements to make intriguing flavors,ie. poached halibut with chorizo, chilled melon soup with interesting veggies and a hint of hot spice. The wine list is short but well curated to provide appropriate pairings with the food offerings. The entire experience was top notch. I only wish I lived in Chicago so I could go back more often.
