Trattoria Tosca - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
The portions were way too small. When ordering, I went with a small pasta portion and salad thinking that would be plenty. The $8 salad covered 1/2 a salad plate - four bites and I was done. When my pasta arrived, again it was a very small portion. I spent $24 (including tip) and left still hungry - and I am not a big eater. Very disappointed. I remember dining here years ago and portions were bigger and food was better...
The food was ok but not great. We were seated inside and as soon as we walked in we smelled an overwhelming bad smell. I'm not sure what it was. Customers were seated at The table was behind us after five minutes, and they were very noisy so it was then very difficult to talk. We moved outside even though it was rather hot, and it was much more pleasant. I probably would not return there . They have to fix the smell! I haven't been there for a couple of years and I remember there being a bad smell then also.
We had a lovely outside-dining experience two days ago. Maybe the best meal I've had in the Twin Cities in a couple of years. All four of us are foodies and we are critical diners. I won't say we've eaten everywhere but it's got to be close. Yet Tosca was new territory for all of us and no one, repeat no one was disappointed. Everything was wonderful, from the salads, through the entrees. I like the limited menu, e.g. 1-3 Salads, 1-4 Primi, 1-4 Entrees. It means they aren't trying to be everything to everybody, but concentrate on a few limited dishes that take advantage of seasonal and local ingredients, and then absolutely nailing them.
The only feedback we can't give you was on the deserts. None of the a la carte desserts tickled our fancy, so we just walked inside to the bakery (which was still open) and bought ourselves a couple piece of pie. All good.
Will go back. Would recommend to anyone.
If you are looking for a fancy table and Roman art on the walls or Italian music playing so loud that you can't hear yourself speak, this is not the place for you. However, if you want great service, excellent food and a place to share a wonderful evening with your wife or girlfriend; then this is the restaurant for you.
I honestly cannot give high enough praise to Trattoria Tosca. I and my wife ate there twice in three days while attending a conference in Minneapolis. I wish I could go back and thank each and every one of the employees for giving us such a memorable experience.
Our group was a bit disappointed that there were far fewer menu choices than we expected, although the food we did order was very tasty. Our server disappeared for long intervals, which made for long waits between courses and for processing our credit card. We'll still return because the food is consistently well prepared and we think this was probably just an off-night.
Trattoria Tosca is an under-rated gem. The pasta is amazing. The wine list is expansive. The service is personal. I love the outdoor dining in the summer. I recently hosted a 10-guest birthday dinner and they were extremely easy to work with and accommodating. I was so pleased to introduce my friends to this wonderful neighborhood restaurant.
I visited here for the first time to celebrate my husbands birthday with his family (six of us). I thought the atmosphere was 'ok.' I liked that you could see the chefs at work, but it didn't feel very cozy or intimate. There was no music playing at all, and because it is split into two rooms it seemed like we were the only people in the restaurant. The server was great. She was helpful and prompt. She wasn't pushy and let us take our time. The food, to me, was very hit or miss. I liked the mussels and spicy sausage. There aren't really any appetizer or small plate sharing options, so we ended up ordering all three veggie sides and the bruschetta to share. The veggies were average. The goat cheese and beet bruschetta was delicious. They served us bread, and the bread was not very good, which is pretty alarming at an Itailian restaurant (connected to a bakery no less). My main pasta was not good. One of us ordered the zucchini spagetti, and that dish was also not good. Two of us had the fish and they loved it. We had Cesar salads and they left much to be desired. So in all, we did enjoy our experience. As far as the food goes I was disappointed. It doesn't come close to some of the restaurants in Minneapolis.
Met up with friends earlyish to avoid noise, but it didn't help - got very noisy very quickly. Dinner was only so-so: brisket was bland, spaghetti with sausage spicy but not flavorful, bucatini were too fat for puttanesca, which was also too tomatoey and fishy but not in a good way. Warm root salad was tasty but not sufficient to warrant spending nearly $90 or enthusiastically recommend Tosca, sadly. Service was friendly but slightly distracted.
Our group tried 3 different entrees & all were delicious with the freshest of flavorful ingredients. Portions generous so sharing an entree if one is not a big eater is fine, especially since getting the fabulous side salads is a must. Gelato & Creme brûlée light & yummy!
My wife and I had a nice dinner on Valentine's night. I had the fixed price special which included a great mushroom soup, and good lamb shank (a little too too much tomato paste for it to be great) and good cannelloni. My wife had very good scallops. The wine list had a good selection and the service was attentive - even on a very busy night.
Was expecting a romantic neighborhood gem from the look of the outside of this establishment. Had been wanting to check it out for a little over a year when I discovered the bakery next door that is fantastic. Scheduled a valentine's date for my wife and I, but when we entered the restaurant we found ourselves seated between two couples in a very non-private, unromantic, unfortunate arrangement. I never write restaurant reviews, but felt compelled on this one. I hate eating in restaurants that promote themselves as romantic only to find less privacy than Panera. Uncomfortable seating, small tables, people next to you that can hear every word is not acceptable for the price point and market that this place is shooting for. I might have returned if the food was amazing, but it was disappointing as well. I had the short ribs, but I think the more accurate description is pot roast. No flavor, very generic. The risotto was good but again not phenomenal. Server was attentive. Overall disappointed.
My husband and I found Trattoria Tosca on Open Table and thought their menu looked amazing. We were right! Wow. The bruschetta was superb! The risotto, scallops, everything. Yummy! They had a great wine list and our server made sure we were taken care of without being there too much. We will be coming back often.
My husband and I love good food and this place is a hidden gem in some ways. We live close by so we found it by default one evening but realized quickly that it shares the same owner as our old local favorite- Levain in South Minneapolis. Trattoria Tosca has a warm and quiet ambiance, exceptional service and the food is phenomenal! We highly recommend it!
We were on our way in to the city from the western suburbs and were in the Uptown area, not that familiar with the area restaurants, but were craving Italian. We checked the Yelp app, and reviews were so so until we saw the reviews for Trattoria Tosca. Nothing but great reviews, so we decided to drive the additional couple miles (the directions on the app took us right to it). And boy, were they right. We were seated and served immediately. We split the Pistachio Pear salad, and the kitchen didn't just split it, they presented it on two plates as if they took the time and laid them out beautifully and they were delicious. I had the Tagliatelle and my wife had the Scallops, both cooked perfectly, arrived piping hot and were delicious. I can't remember enjoying an Italian meal more in this quaint, warm neighborhood restaurant. We were a little too full to try the deserts, but we will leave room next time. We recommended it to our friends the very next day. Next time we are in the area (we visit often from Denver) we will be back.
We went for a romantic anniversary dinner. Instead, it took 3 tries before we found a table that didn't have a cold air vent blowing down on us, the noise level was very loud so having a conversation was difficult, and we were seated next to a table filled with high school kids celebrating home coming. The food was meh ... nothing to rave about. The server forgot about us and it took an unreasonable amount of time to get the check as we were quite eager to leave. The most annoying aspect was the wood floor; there seemed to be no insulation under the floor. Whenever anyone stepped on the floor, especially a server, not only was it loud, we could feel the vibration and items even shook on our table. The evening was disappointing; we will not be returning.
I love this place! My husband and I have lived in Minneapolis for over 2 years and had never been until now. We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary here. Just when you think you've discovered all of the hidden gems Minneapolis has to offer, a new place like Trattoria Tosca pops up! Delicious, fresh, authentic Italian food and friendly, professional staff with the best ambiance.
We absolutely loved our experience here!! The food is fantastic!!! True, home-style Tuscan dining. The presentation is gorgeous!!! And each bite is a perfect Marraige of mouthwatering flavor. Love it! love it ! love it! We will definitely tell our friends and make this a regular stop for our date nights!! 😊 keep up the great work!! You truly have a wonderful gift with what you're doing here!!
We had the scallop bruschetta and it was so good. Then my husband had the scallop entrée and I had the halibut. Both were excellent. The restaurant needs to update their online menu, as the actual menu was much smaller than online. Next time we'll try the pasta's.
Food was very good. Atmosphere charming. Scallops and duck were our choices and had interesting flavor and contrast. Presentation was good. Service and ambiance were lacking due to us being a late reservation. I think during an earlier time we would have had a better experience. So if before 730 pm weekday you I would recommend
