Trattoria Taverniti Ratings and Reviews
$ of us all enjoyed our various pasta dishes with the gnocchi being the slim favourite. Bruschetta was excellent as was the tiramisu. Service was great. Very cramped quarters and it was a cold night so constant opening of door made the temperature uncomfortable.
We had a reservation , however the table was not ready and we had to wait more than 20 min. We were seated on a booth ( 4 people- not enough space, but ok )
The food: they run out of burrata cheese so we ordered caprese instead, with prosciutto aside- was ok; arugula salad- not fresh, supermarket look, a few parmigiana flakes, not enough dressing, the bread was good!, main meals: spaghetti carbonara- “ok, not fantastic, as we used to have in the past “, margherita pizza -ok”, chicken parmigiana was soaked in a bath of tomato sauce - tasted “ok”, eggplant parmigiana was served in a bath of tomato sauce, too salty, did not have any flavor ! Overall the food tasted like supermarket frozen food warmed up and served to the table!
The wine : a few choices of white and red, would suggest a larger selection of Italian wines from different regions of Italy, to complement the meals!
We did not have dessert.
This small family restaurant was on our favorite list, but our last experience was quite disappointing!
We will think twice before going back !!!!
Noted as Sister’s birthday on reservation, nothing acknowledged by restaurant.
Door to restaurant needs to be quick release and close. Was extremely cold and unpleasant to dine with cold air constantly being forced in from outside.
Misprint on menu in type of pasta not mentioned until dish delivered to table and we pointed out to the server.
Overall experience was actually disappointing and mediocre.
Everything about our experience was absolutely amazing! The restaurant itself was so cute and authentic looking, and the women who started the restaurant came over to talk with us during our meal. We were visiting from the states, but all the locals knew the staff and it had a friendly family-like atmosphere. The food was to die for. I had the fettuccini with the mushrooms and my friend had gnocchi with a vodka sauce. Easily one of the best Italian meals I have had to date. Our waitress was also very accommodating as my friend is vegetarian and the vodka sauce usually is made with meat. She spoke with the chef, and they made it without the meat for her. Would most definitely recommend.
Excellent bolognese and cannelloni. Tasty appetizers. Recommend gorgonzola on toast with honey and beef carpaccio. Drinkable house white and red wine. Easy, approachable, great intimate meal to share with a loved one or friend. Get cozy, not a large restaurant.
Time will not permit me to write a review that would adequately sing the praises of this restaurant. The food was perfect, as was the service and the ambience. One of my new favourites. I have already recommended it to the family for an upcoming celebration.
We chose this restaurant as it was close to the Randolph Theatre where we were watching a show later that evening. The restaurant is small so reservations are highly recommended. We ordered both pasta and pizza dishes and they were tasty and generous. I will be coming back to sample other dishes.
A Real Find! A rare discovery in Toronto: a restaurant that takes reservations and provides excellent food at very reasonable prices with good, friendly service in a delightful atmosphere which encourages lively conversation that does not have to compete with loud music. Simple, tasty, authentic Italian fare, with unusually good pizzas. Located in Little Italy, half a block from a Municipal Parking lot. We came from out of town, and we'll be back as soon as we can.
This is a very authentic traditional southern italian restaurant. The menu choices were vast with great pasta dishes, salads, seafood and pizza. This place has lots of character. Warm and inviting the service was friendly and welcoming. We had six people celebrating a birthday and the food arrived all on time, hot and delicious. A perfect place for a romantic evening, special occasion or just to enjoy wonderful comfort food. Will definitely go back and try more menu options.
Always a pleasure coming to Trattoria Taverniti! My dad and I always come here together when he's in town to eat arancini and pasta and it hits the spot every time. If you come between 5 and 6 PM (right when they open) it's pretty quiet and you'll get your food really quick!
We were looking forward to getting together with some friends but unfortunately our evening took a turn for the worse our server came over and basically instead of introducing herself right off the bat told us that our time would be up at 9 o’clock and that we would have to leave because somebody else was coming that just kind of ruined the night for us we felt rushed and then actually when it was 9 o’clock and we were finishing off but had not ordered any coffee or dessert again she came over to tell us that we had to be leaving soon because the other party had arrived apparently they have a time and if you book online they only give you an hour and half only if you call in will they extend the time. We were squished in a corner so space wise it’s tight. Needless to say we won’t be going here again and we left and went and had coffee and dessert at Golden Wheat which was just up the street, where no one could rush us or kick us out.
We have been to many restaurants and never have we experienced this before it was awkward and really made the restaurant look bad.
Just fantabulous. Very good food in a traditional Italian style. This is coming from a couple who has spent much time in Italy and is constantly on the lookout for authentic Italian eateries. It's a gem that's lost amidst a neighborhood of hot-and-miss Italian restaurants.
What a wonderful little alcove in Toronto's Little Italy. The pasta (bolognese) was the best restaurant pasta dish I have ever had! My wife's lasagna was superb. We talked with the folks at the table next to us (very NY City Italian) about how good the food was--- the waitresses even indulged my guttural Italian--- it is representative of Little Italy in the best cities in the world! Thanks for a wonderful, little, friendly, and tasty place to enjoy food and conversation.
In Italiano, sono Francisco DeGasperin--- and I will return to Trattoria Tavernetti when I have a chance to visit Toronto again!!!
Thanks to Open Table our family would never have otherwise discovered this unique gem. As a special occasion for us, this place was a wonderfully authentic and cozy venue, looking out through the removed windows onto the street activity of passer-bys within the heart of Toronto's "Little Italy." The food was scruptously homemade with authrntic Italian recipes and ingredients from regions of Italy. The "Gorgonzola" appetizer was to die for! We came from the Unionville area for a celebration dinner, and will definitely make Trattoria Taverniti one of our go-to GTA regular favourits in the future.....I would also say it would no doubt rank highly with us had we been a distant out of towner family or I was on business staying in the downton area.
