Very quaint and cozy but a little too noisy for the space available. Fantastic food! Highly recommend. Well worth the drive.
Excellent food and service. My only complaint is that I did not know there would be a fixed (and rather expensive) menu on Valentine's Day.
We were annoyed when we arrived to find that there was a set menu for our Valentine’s Day dinner. There was no mention of this ahead of time and so we were forced to spend more than we would have otherwise. This would have been fine had the food been amazing, however I found my bruschetta overly simple and my pasta bland. As well, the tables are very small and too close together such that we were basically in front of the door at a table that couldn’t even fit two place mats. I was disappointed with the overall experience and do not plan to return.
I wish I’d known about this place ages ago as it’s a total gem. Tucked away in a sea of restaurants in the heart of Little Italy it’s definitely worth a try. The food was exactly what I’d hoped for, simple Italian like you’d get at Grandma’s house. My only knock is that they were quite heavy with the salt, overall very good though. The service was great as well. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive with a relaxing, casual demeanour. The restaurant itself is tiny but cozy. Expect to have to squeeze your way past chairs go get anywhere and bump elbows with the table next to you. Pricing was very fair as well at under $100 for 2 people with wine, 3 appetizers, and a main each. All in all a great place and I’ll be going back. Be sure to make a reservation if you’re back planning on going as it fills up quickly.
We had a 4pm reservation upon arrival the cook wasn't there. We were seated and had to wait without any complimentary snack.
The food was fresh but not the best I had. The eggplant parmigiana was too salty.
The food was awful. Pasta was not well-cooked. They must have used a cheap bottle of tomato sauce from a market. I was so embarrassed to bring my friend over there. I do not understand how they received good reviews. The food just ruined my day. The waiter and waitress were friendly, though.
Ordered a couple of items with seafood...The seafood did not seem to be fresh and it tasted like it was frozen for a while.
Would not recommend.
I love Taverniti...As a College Street resident, I find it is the most authentic Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. It's all in the sauce, and this place does it, with Nonna's help. Also very nice homemade pasta and gnocchi. I recommend the house salad (shaved fennel and orange in spicy dressing) as a refreshing appetizer.
Great location. A real authentic Italian restaurant. Excellent selections of pasta and pizza.
If you look for the food and not for the show-off, come to experience this place.
Trattoria Taverniti is a small, authentic style Italian Restaurant. Service is attentive, food is delicious, and to have Mama tour the restaurant and ask how your meal is...just like when we were in Italy!
Great ambiance, cozy, delicious food, feels like home. Love, love, love this restaurant!
$ of us all enjoyed our various pasta dishes with the gnocchi being the slim favourite. Bruschetta was excellent as was the tiramisu. Service was great. Very cramped quarters and it was a cold night so constant opening of door made the temperature uncomfortable.
Great neighbourhood restaurant with authentic, tasty Italian food. Family run, friendly, with great food. A nice combination.
We had a reservation , however the table was not ready and we had to wait more than 20 min. We were seated on a booth ( 4 people- not enough space, but ok )
The food: they run out of burrata cheese so we ordered caprese instead, with prosciutto aside- was ok; arugula salad- not fresh, supermarket look, a few parmigiana flakes, not enough dressing, the bread was good!, main meals: spaghetti carbonara- “ok, not fantastic, as we used to have in the past “, margherita pizza -ok”, chicken parmigiana was soaked in a bath of tomato sauce - tasted “ok”, eggplant parmigiana was served in a bath of tomato sauce, too salty, did not have any flavor ! Overall the food tasted like supermarket frozen food warmed up and served to the table!
The wine : a few choices of white and red, would suggest a larger selection of Italian wines from different regions of Italy, to complement the meals!
We did not have dessert.
This small family restaurant was on our favorite list, but our last experience was quite disappointing!
We will think twice before going back !!!!
Noted as Sister’s birthday on reservation, nothing acknowledged by restaurant.
Door to restaurant needs to be quick release and close. Was extremely cold and unpleasant to dine with cold air constantly being forced in from outside.
Misprint on menu in type of pasta not mentioned until dish delivered to table and we pointed out to the server.
Overall experience was actually disappointing and mediocre.
Absolutely amazing! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was suberb!
Best Pizza I have had in Toronto
Everything about our experience was absolutely amazing! The restaurant itself was so cute and authentic looking, and the women who started the restaurant came over to talk with us during our meal. We were visiting from the states, but all the locals knew the staff and it had a friendly family-like atmosphere. The food was to die for. I had the fettuccini with the mushrooms and my friend had gnocchi with a vodka sauce. Easily one of the best Italian meals I have had to date. Our waitress was also very accommodating as my friend is vegetarian and the vodka sauce usually is made with meat. She spoke with the chef, and they made it without the meat for her. Would most definitely recommend.
Excellent bolognese and cannelloni. Tasty appetizers. Recommend gorgonzola on toast with honey and beef carpaccio. Drinkable house white and red wine. Easy, approachable, great intimate meal to share with a loved one or friend. Get cozy, not a large restaurant.
Visiting Toronto from the US and was looking for good Italian food, well turned out we found a great place. I highly recommend this family run restaurant.
Love the food, especially the tomato sauce!
Time will not permit me to write a review that would adequately sing the praises of this restaurant. The food was perfect, as was the service and the ambience. One of my new favourites. I have already recommended it to the family for an upcoming celebration.
Second time at Trattoria Taverniti and both times were fantastic. The gnocchi is better than what I tasted while in Italy and you can tell there is passion and love put into each dish. Will definitely be returning again.
We chose this restaurant as it was close to the Randolph Theatre where we were watching a show later that evening. The restaurant is small so reservations are highly recommended. We ordered both pasta and pizza dishes and they were tasty and generous. I will be coming back to sample other dishes.
A Real Find! A rare discovery in Toronto: a restaurant that takes reservations and provides excellent food at very reasonable prices with good, friendly service in a delightful atmosphere which encourages lively conversation that does not have to compete with loud music. Simple, tasty, authentic Italian fare, with unusually good pizzas. Located in Little Italy, half a block from a Municipal Parking lot. We came from out of town, and we'll be back as soon as we can.
This is a very authentic traditional southern italian restaurant. The menu choices were vast with great pasta dishes, salads, seafood and pizza. This place has lots of character. Warm and inviting the service was friendly and welcoming. We had six people celebrating a birthday and the food arrived all on time, hot and delicious. A perfect place for a romantic evening, special occasion or just to enjoy wonderful comfort food. Will definitely go back and try more menu options.
Fantastic. Nothing else needs said. It's small. Seats less than 30.
Always a pleasure coming to Trattoria Taverniti! My dad and I always come here together when he's in town to eat arancini and pasta and it hits the spot every time. If you come between 5 and 6 PM (right when they open) it's pretty quiet and you'll get your food really quick!
We were looking forward to getting together with some friends but unfortunately our evening took a turn for the worse our server came over and basically instead of introducing herself right off the bat told us that our time would be up at 9 o’clock and that we would have to leave because somebody else was coming that just kind of ruined the night for us we felt rushed and then actually when it was 9 o’clock and we were finishing off but had not ordered any coffee or dessert again she came over to tell us that we had to be leaving soon because the other party had arrived apparently they have a time and if you book online they only give you an hour and half only if you call in will they extend the time. We were squished in a corner so space wise it’s tight. Needless to say we won’t be going here again and we left and went and had coffee and dessert at Golden Wheat which was just up the street, where no one could rush us or kick us out.
We have been to many restaurants and never have we experienced this before it was awkward and really made the restaurant look bad.
