A great gem of a restaurant
Great food, great venue
We visited on Mother's Day, and expected it to be busy, but our experience was borderline ridiculous. The food was just ok, and the service was pretty bad. I understand that they were busy, but they crammed us in a corner, and had chairs just stuck on to the ends of all of the tables. My mother and mother-in-law kept being bumped by the patrons at the table in front of us. My entire backside rubbed up against the person sitting at the table next us when we were seated. There was maybe one foot of space between our table and the surrounding parties. Our food was delivered on time, but our server visited our table maybe four times, these four times include the times she came to take our order. We received our to-go boxes from a different server, and waited a full twenty minutes for our check, which we only got after requesting it from the host. When we finally received it, it was incorrect. The server had charged us for twice as many drinks as we had actually ordered. This mistake was corrected fairly quickly, but the experience had obviously already been ruined. Maybe the food and service is better on regular days, but I'm not willing to find out.
Sorrento continues to be one of our favorites. The food is always delicious, very authentic Italian, and we always feel like we are at home in their kitchen.
We've recently been twice and won't go back again. On both occasions the service has been slow but the last visit the waiter was utterly incompetent.
A good range of food on the menu. There were 4 of us, and we ate different items, including the house calamari, beet salad, branzino, veal parmigiana. It was all good.
The branzino was a "special of the day" and was priced accordingly -- which we didn't know until we got the bill!
Went for the first time Thursday April 6 because it was Dining Out For Life evening, benefitting Food and Friends, and they were participating. It was very good and I 'd be happy to come back as a "regular" customer.
Food and service was wonderful. We had a large group and special requests, including gluten free, were accommodated. Everyone in our party had a great time.
Food was great. Well worth the trip from DC to Bethesda.
Most of the items on the menu were between $25 - 32. The waiter told us the specials and we asked the price. He said "about the same". The check showed $ 39 for a veal special. For a restaurant with "no table cloths" and outdated decor, I do not think it is good value.
Great experience! Looking forward to Opera. Server acted like an owner!
Niiiiiiice
Great food. It was Valentines Day and the restaurant was seriously overbooked. Dinner was badly delayed although the servers were doing their best. I would go back on a normal night and I think it will be a better experience.
For the restaurant to be packed for a busy Valentine's Day evening, we were seated pretty quickly. The staff was very friendly. The food was amazing.
We went on Valentines day, it was busy, service was very good, authentic looking. We will go back again..........
We were on Valentine's Day which was naturally very busy. We spent the first 20 minutes waiting to be served. Each phase was dragged out and slow. But when the food arrived, it was superb which made up 99% for the awful service.
On short notice we were able to get a reservation & had a wonderful time. Our server was great & the food delicious. Nice restaurant with good food.
Reliably good. We have become semi-regulars. Sorrento offers a nice menu with the expected range of Italian offerings plus several specials. Service is friendly and usually attentive. The pasta dishes are well-executed and tasty. My wife is a fan of the veal dishes. The minestrone and pasta fagioli are ample and delicious. There is a parking lot next door.
Great quality Italian food and reasonably prices. The pizza was outstanding. Loved the grilled calamari
Was initially upset because she took a long time to check my ID after ordering a drink but overall was a great dining experience. The food was exceptional and I will be returning.
I always enjoy dining at Trattoria Sorrento. It is truly a family-owned restaurant where the staff will remember you and make you feel exceedingly welcomed. I think the food is very good, well priced and the atmosphere feels most comfortable. The noise level is not terrible so it is easy to have a relaxing dinner here without feeling that you're competing for decibel levels.
Ambience was nice and the service was personable.
Food was excellent and wait staff was friendly. Although at first service was a little slow, everything turned out perfect. Will definitely be back.
Nice ambiance, service quite good and friendly. The food was good not memorable.
They did their best to accommodate the number of people that were there for Christmas Eve but to be honest it took about an hour just to seat us even with a reservation and then another hour to receive food. Overall great food and amazing garlic bread, I would recommend for a non-holiday night.
Arrived 10 minutes before reservation. Restaurant relatively empty, few people eating or waiting to be served and no receptionest or waiter in sight. Finally a waiter appeared and started preparing an order to be served. I approached and asked about seating at which time he moved the dish and said we could sit at that table, which was near the front entrance to the restaurant. When asked if we could sit farther back where there were many empty tables his answer was a curt no. When asked why, he said they were all reserved. When I said we had a reservation he said "ask her" pointing to a woman serving a table about 10 feet from us and impossible not to hear what was going on. There was no response forthcoming and we considered the sequence of events both rude and unconcerned, particularly after having waited almost 10 minutes before even seeing someone to ask about being seated. Result: We left and had an enjoyable meal elsewhere.
Food was excellent as was service. The only complaint I have is that the server recommended a much more expensive wine then I thought we were getting.
It was all good
The food at Sorrento is very good. The service is, as well. However, it's a little over-priced.
Our favorite Italian restaurant in Bethesda. Our home away from home! Chef Carlo always makes us feel welcome along with his daughter, Melinda!
Absolutely delicious experience and great pasta! Neighborhood gem.
We returned after a spontaneous first visit, to enjoy a delicious Italian meal. Antipasto sorrento with meats and cheeses, peppers and olives on refreshing dressed salad pleased again. Seafood pastas and traditional Italian plates were yummy and came in large portions. Desserts we chose were average. Service was great first time, haphazard and slow this time. It will be my local Italian...
First time there. Liked casualness of the atmosphere and authentic feel. Felt warm and cozy. Food was good and priced reasonably.
Greeted and seated promptly. The specials were extensive and the menu was well appointed.
Very relaxing meal and enjoyable 'old world' charm.
Artichokes were delish and the Calimari and interesting dish!
it took a long time for the food to arrive and then two of our four entrees were wrong.
Food is very good. Menu varied and atmosphere pleasant. When we last visited, the service was a bit distracted. We have always enjoyed dining here before, and I am sure we just hit an off night.
Trattoria Sorrento has become an all-occasion place to go as well as having had private office holiday parties for many years. The 2 generation family who owns this restaurant knows us for a long time and we feel like part of their family - we are always greeted with warm welcomes and we try to bring as many people we can there for a first-time experience. They often return, sometimes even without us ! Others of us make plans to go together whenever we can.
It is a lovely place to spend an evening and eat wonderful food. We are always aware when there is something new on the menu since we have been going there for so long. This week was a beautiful salad with grilled pumpkin in thin slices - perfectly seasonal with a very attractive presentation.Fish is always great as are more traditional Italian items. The "home made" desserts are always special as well. Service is always warm and friendly too and even those servers who are not actual members of the family are like family and treat us very well.
The perfect restaurant in Bethesda . The food is perfectly prepared and creative in scope and execution . The rolled eggplant and their risotto dishes are the best I ever had , anywhere . The atmosphere is warm and inviting . You feel you are being welcomed into this family owned restaurant's home
We were visiting friends in the DC area and they had been to this place many times before. The food and the service and the prices were all perfect. When we visit our friends again we will definitely go to this restaurant again.
My wife is not usually enthusiastic about Italian food, but she thought the ravioli was great, as did our friends. I had veal, which was just OK -- a little tough.
I love this place, it feels like visiting family from Italy. It's not too "cute", just the right amount of decor to make it feel authentic. A wonderful place to meet friends when you want a good comfort food meal and a nice quiet place to have great conversation and wine!
