Trattoria la Vigna
Best and most authentic Italian food I have had in Texas
Food was good, though the calamari appetizer was disappointing (barely any breading.....too mushy).
Very fresh pasta
Pasta is always fresh and delicious!
Beautiful little restaurant with authentic Italian food. Service was amazing also. Prices are right and portions were great
Food was fair. They need new tables and chairs or at least cover the tables w/ white table cloths or red & white checkered table cloths and refurbish the chairs - need to clean the place up a bit place looks like a dump -need to expand menu & wine list - service was good once this has been completed they should advertise more. Food is not really that bad
Food was very good and even ran into a friend from Houston. You can tell it is a local nice restaurant. I am a Interior Designer I would recommend some updating especially the table and chairs.
Great Home made pasta. More's the pity it is coupled with mediocre sauced and entrees.
The best Italian I've had, still. Consistently the most delicious dishes. Definitely in my top 5 restaurants of all time.
This was our first time to the restaurant so we didn't go with any expectations. The ambiance was great and the food was amazing, however, the service was a little lacking. The server was not very pleasant and she was very short and to the point when it came to taking our order and checking on us. Otherwise a great place to enjoy some amazing Italian cuisine.
Hidden gem. Small but lively, authentic Italian. top notch food. Only be aware, just because you have an Open Table reservation at a certain, doesn't mean you will be seated at that time. I did say it was authentic.
We have dined at Trattoria La Vigna a few times now and have enjoyed our experience immensely. Our most recent visit was on a Saturday evening at 8pm. The restaurant was completely full, but thankfully we had made a reservation and was seated within a few minutes. Our server was great, but it did take a while to receive our dinners. This was obviously because they were extremely busy (maybe they could have used an extra server or cook?) As I used to be in the restaurant industry, this did not upset me. We had drinks and bread and we're happy to chat while we waited. I had the Pork Tenderloin (2x now) and it is ridiculously good! The pork is tender, but the sauce is what really makes this dish. I even asked the server for a little more to take home with my leftovers. We love this place and will continue to come back!
Overall it was an underwhelming experience. The food was just like any other mediocre Italian restaurant. The expensice Golden Tile fish was too soggy from all the watery sauce. The best thing about my visit was that it was quite enough to enjoy the conversations with my fellow dinners.
This is our favorite place to have a quiet meal. The entree selection is ample. And is always very good. The service is impeccable. Great value in many ways. The only ding is the chair seats are losing their vinyl coating and are flaking.
Once again the food was fabulous. We also sat in the back room for the first time because it was so busy but actually the back room was quite nice and quieter than the front. I tried the seafood risotto for the first time and it definitely won’t be the last! It was so delicious without being overly buttery or rich tasting. It tasted fresh and perfectly cooked.
Great, delicious food
Fabulous veal Marsala and great Caesar salad followed by interesting cheesecake. Our server Olga was very attentive yet not to the point of rushing us. This is a favorite place of ours for before the opera house shows or a fun concert at the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe across the street.
Wonderful meal! The best Calamari I have ever eaten. The service is outstanding. Don’t miss it when you are in the island!
Excellent food and service
Not as good as it usually is. Risotto undercooked and past a little under also. I like al dente but it was under. Too much cream in tiramisu. Hardly any ladyfinger.
Enjoyed the food. Service was not very attentive; they were getting ready for a large group and we weren’t high priority.
However, since we have a new baby, it is very disappointing to find that the restaurant did not find it important to provide a changing table for their customers. Had to take ours to the car to change. Not a good experience. When told of this, the waitress said that they don’t get enough parents. There were two such families having dinner that night. A changing table should be available at a restaurant with pretentious intentions.
I had the osso bucco and my boyfriend had the sea bass. Both were excellent!
My go to, family owned, Italian restaurant.
The food is delicious!
Decent, but not outstanding Italian fare......! The place is WAY TOO noisy, and the tables are not quite large enough for servings for 4. The noise and lack of space is the biggest down-side.....
The food and the service were excellent as always.
Best Italian on the island.
This was just the Friday evening dinner that we needed. The staff was friendly and the food delicious as always. We would recommend Trattoria La Vigna without any hesitation. It has always delivered.
Going here was like stepping into Italy. The curbside restaurant, near the Strand but off the beaten path, has old-world high ceilings and long windows, wine bottles and boxes placed in visually appealing places (though probably really for storage), unobtrusive yet punctual waiters, and discreetly-played Italian opera for background music. The best part was the food. I had eggplant parmesan, with the proper amount of spice, oil, and consistency. The included side salad, often an afterthought in restaurants, was delicious. My wife is a vegetarian, and was happy with the menu (and with her mushroom ravioli.)
We live in Austin, but will return next time in Galveston.
I’ve never had a bad meal here. It’s fresh, made to order and delicious. My friends and I ordered, wine, appetizers, main courses, dessert and coffee. It was all very good. Even their desserts are homemade! The only feedback I would give for possible improvements was how hot the restaurant was. It cooled off as the sun went down but it was uncomfortable for a bit. Our ice would melt a few moments after being served in our drinks. The food is so good I’d go back again and again even with the heat!
Great food and service
Great authentic Italian food in a quaint old restaurant.
Pina always provides fantastic food and excellent service! We absolutely love every meal we have here. The fresh made pasta, handbreaded calamari and seafood dishes are incredible!
The food was excellent. I wondered why they said to plan on 2 hours before showtime since the Grand Theater was 1 block away. After eating there it became evident since at first the service seemed slow, but that was because everything was made fresh. That's one of the reasons the food was so good.
The zuppa di pesce was disappointing. The mussels and shrimps didn’t easily detach from the sea shells which indicates they weren’t fresh. The mussels and fish had an after taste. But the chef immediately replaced the dish with Spaghetti Contadine which was fresh and homemade. The other dishes were ok: Seafood Risotto, Meatball plate, and Fried Cod from the lunch menu. Overall, the experience was good, because the service and chef cooperated.
My fiance and I have been to many Italian restaurants, but none even compare to the food here. It is incredibly delicious, and the sauces used put all others to shame. We came here for our anniversary, but we want to stop by here every time we go to Galveston from now on.
If anyone is reading this and considering dining at a chain restaurant, I absolutely urge you to break the mold and try here. Or if you are looking for a hidden gem that will make your trip to Galveston more unique, look no further. Either way, as I have, you will be rewarded with the best tasting Italian food you've tried yet.
Great food, great service and great price. That pretty much sums it up!
The best authentic Italian food I have had the pleasure of eating. Simply amazing. When I want Italian food it will be worth the drive to Galveston to have the best.
Once again the best Italian food on the island! Great selection or they will make it for you, excellent wine selection too!
Great, authentic Italian food. nice staff. Prices are reasonable compared to most restaurants.
