All good but we ate outside and the flies were bad and it detracted from our experience. Maybe they could try to set some traps or something to reduce the flies. Everything else was good.
Lovely river view from the patio. Vintage ambience inside. Friendly staff. Fresh food. What more can you ask for?
the food was very tasty, but the kitchen was overwhelmed with only 1/2 the restaurant being seated. daily specials were not available & kitchen service was very slow, but waitress was very sweet and apologetic.
Accommodating staff. Great views of the town. Perfect patio atmosphere.
Food was amazing. Waitresses very polite. Going to go again.
We day trip to Port Hope several times a year and almost always have lunch at Trattoria Gusto. Our food was delicious, the dining room is lovely and our server was delightful. We look forward to our next visit.
Very hot and uncomfortable. The air conditioning was on but the door to the outside patio was open most of the time which let the hot air in. Penne with vegetables was 98 percent penne. Extremely over priced and just okay tasting. It was the same price of a glass of wine. $17. The olive oil dip for the bread had gone off and had to be replaced. All four of us said we would never be back. Lovely building and the bread was excellent but that’s it.
We made reservation since we had theatre tickets for matinee. We had great service and lots of time to have our lunch, did not feel rushed, the restaurant was busy but that didn't seem to matter.
Our food choices, mussels, pasta and salad with roasted portabello mushrooms were excellent.
We will certainly try to come back.
Thank you for a wonderful dining experience for my husband and I on our "anniversary". We wanted to experience a restaurant that we had never gone to before and this restaurant was recommended to us by a few friends. We were very pleased to see that the restaurant and staff were very knowledgeable concerning my husband's gluten allergy (celiac) and tried to find/suggest alternatives for him. This was truly a great dining treat for us as a couple. The waiter was very friendly, helpful and communicated with us on a personal level as the evening continued -- just the right amount of conversation too! Thank you again!
Stopped in her for lunch before catching a matinee at the Capitol Theatre. Food was wonderful, dining room cool and classy, service caring and prompt. A terrific pre-theatre choice in Port Hope.
Delicious, relaxed, and remarkable
From service to chef
Couldn’t ask for a better evening dining al fresco, alongside the rolling Ganaraska
Thank you so much for the experience
Drove an hour to attend for my boyfriend's birthday. Our second visit. Food was good. The waitress made the occasion. The patio is awesome.
Very nice menu, excellent service, and a very enjoyable evening.
We had a wonderful time with friends and good food, conversation and ambience—all of us enjoyed our time here!
I go to Gusto whenever I can! I used to think it was expensive, but then I went to a few other popular chain restaurants (Milestones, Casey's, even Lone Star, etc) and realized that for the quality of the food and the atmosphere (especially on the patio by the river) it's actually borderline cheap. Just be prepared to want to order several things... And take advantage of the complimentary crusty toasty bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar! I'm drooling just thinking about it.
Our food and service was great! My disappointment was when we over heard other customers being asked if they were going to the theatre and offered a special. We were going to the theatre and not offered that.
Great lunch on the patio overlooking the river. Our server Heather was wonderfully accommodating at getting us a table partly in shade and partly in the sun. Meals were interesting and tasty. Great pre-theatre location. Just try to give yourselves plenty of time - the food took a little while to come out, which wasn't a problem for us.
Menu was limited, service slow, food average if not below.
Lunch for four, excellent service. Two of us had the daily fish special, tasty if a little overcooked. One had pizza and enjoyed it, the other had caesar salad, which was excellent, but the added chicken was seriously overcooked, which was a shame. There are not many places to have lunch in Port Hope that are not junk food or sandwiches, so always nice to go to a pleasant location. We will certainly return and would recommend this restaurant to visitors (and locals who should support a restaurant like this to ensure it continues to operate).
We enjoyed a delicious meal, seated on the patio. Great service and lovely situation overlooking the river.
We had a most enjoyable meal prior to going to the Capitol Theatre. Wait staff was very attentive, friendly and responded to all our inquiries in an informed, pleasant and timely manner. My sole complaint would be the cost of your wines which we found to be overly expensive. Would definitely come again and would recommend your restaurant to others.
Overall very Good. Bread was burnt.
Mussels sold out. Seafood linguine was excellent. Casear Salad ok (no anchovies).
This is our regular go to place before the theatre. Great food at reasonable prices. We also love the outdoor deck - great place to stop on a bike ride.
I reserved a table at Trattoria Gusto for a lunch with my uncle. We had both been before but they never disappoint. The food was delicious and savory and the service is always just the right amount of checking in but not overwhelming. My uncle had a sore neck and we were given the table in the front window with the comfy wing-back chairs which worked out perfectly. I love visiting Trattoria Gusto and most definitely will again.
Food was average and the service was unpolished. Decor is looking a little worn
There were three of us and we all had different items off the menu and we all loved our meals. The service was excellent, very friendly.
Our food was very good, and service pleasant and helpful but an hour to wait for the entrée was much too long.
Lunch on the patio overlooking the Ganaraska river. Nicest location and best food in Port Hope
Amazing lunch! Enjoyed everything we had, and the staff were all spectacular! They really go above and beyond to make you have an outstanding experience! Next time will try out the beautiful riverside patio.
We love the ambiance and feel of this restaurant, and it is always my first choice when planning for a special event. (We were celebrating 3 birthdays that evening). Unfortunately the noise level that evening was unbearable. Three of us sat at the round table in the centre of the room. A table of 6 adults sat behind and were unbelievably/unbearably loud (not sure where they thought they were). Later a party of (I'm guessing, 10 - 15) came in and sat at a long table in front of the fireplace. We were not able to carry on a discussion, we subtly moved our chairs closer together, but that did not make a difference. We enjoyed our meals, and did not comment on the noise until we left. We were sorry that we did not make reservations in the beautiful, and quiet bar. Thank you.
Mother’s Day dinner... unusually quiet, was expecting a busier night. Food was fantastic as usual! Service was great.
Made reservations for a party of 8, took over an hour to receive our order, no ever came back to see how the food was or if we needed anything else. I wanted to order a glass of wine the next time someone would come to our table, someone from our table actually had to go to the bar to order a glass.
I had the chicken Parmesan. The best I have ever had! Will come back just for that!
We have been here several times and have enjoyed lunch and dinner. Love the outdoor patio on a bright summer day. Our served did make an error on the order but promptly corrected it. Pizza here is amazing!!!
Thank you for the wonderful dinner once again! My husband loved his surprise birthday dessert. It is so nice to go somewhere that staff recognize us. Our very favourite special occasion place
Went for lunch at 12.30 as reserved. Our table had been given to someone else so it took a bit of time to seat us. They had run out of soup, beet salad and quiche. Long wait for the food which was good once it arrived. Ordered cake for dessert. The waitress came back to say the cake had been spoiled in the baking but offered me another dessert free of charge. Lots of apologies but still.....
Pre-theatre lunch, reserved for 8 at 12:15 pm. We are all there seated, order our entrees. First bad sign, told they were out of soup, then next person wanted the Beet Salad, out of that item too. Really? By 12:15 pm? Two items off the menu? Two of our parties order meals that come with salads, they are served. We wait, we wait. Now 1 pm. I flag our server and tell her we have a theatre time to meet. She notes it. Now 1:15 pm. We have been seated for an hour, no meal, no explanation, no server in sight. I walk to the reception desk, first I am told to wait, then our server comes. I remind her of our timing issues, she looks at me and says "I have told the kitchen, there is nothing more I can do for you". I ask for a manager, I am told, "no manager". Back to the table have a discussion my friends, server then appears and says that they are having oven issues and it is the pizza order that is holding up all our lunches. First we have been told of this or even advised about the long wait. Now almost 1:30 pm, we have to leave in about 10 minutes to get to the theatre, we decide to give up on our lunch, as even if we cancel the pizza it would still be 10 more minutes at least for our meals. We ended up buying a wrap at a bakery across the road and eating it as we walked to the theatre. This is ridiculous. One of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever endured. I was embarrassed and felt badly for our group, as I had suggested this restaurant. I would NEVER go back there.
Have eaten here on a number of occasions and was underwhelmed by the menu choices and the food. The menu is tired and the food was uninspired. This place is not what it used to be.
I have always enjoyed Trattoria I find the food is excellent, the service exceeds my expectations...love the warm bread...
Suggestion... have the chef add some spices to the dipping sauce...
I did not get the name of our server BUT she was awesome... attentive, polite and very accommodating... lovely young lady...
We'll be back...
