This place is wonderful. The food and service are consistently very good. We go there every time we go to Steppenwolf or Royal George but wonderful even if you are not going to the theater bu just want a good Italian inspired meal.
Very good food. Very busy, service was a bit slow. Everyone was very friendly
A neighborhood favorite. Great cocktails. Best eggplant melanzone. Delicious homemade pasta dishes. Branzino was perfection-light, fresh vegetables, gently seasoned. Lovely place. Gianni always makes a point of visiting our table and catching up on family news. Always a treat. Thrilled they now offer Grubhub home delivery.
We went before a Steppenwolf performance, and loved every bite. I knew that you could order half portions of the pasta, and it was perfect paired with a starter salad. We'll be going back often.
I used to work here some 20 years ago and decided to go back now that I've returned to city. The place is as great today as it was then. A few minor changes but the menu still had my favorites! I'm going to return again and again! Not only to eat but to chat with the owner (and my former employer) Gianni. Who owns and operates one of the best Italian restaurants in Chicago! Bravo!
Such a wonderful exoerience! Customer service was second to none
Love you as our favorite restaurant. This time unfortunately we sat next to a very noisy table of 12 but that was not your fault
I sort of stumbled onto Trattoria Gianni, since the Italian restaurant I visited last year down the street is closed due to a recent fire, but I was very happy with my 'stumble.' My out-of-town friend and I were going to the Steppenwolf Theatre, and needed something close by for dinner. Trattoria Gianni is a delightful little place, very authentic and welcoming. The waitstaff knew of our theatre commitment, and was very accommodating. The food was delicious, and we made it out in plenty of time. Another bonus: when you valet here, you can leave your car and pick it up after the theatre. That's huge.
Celebrated Easter with 3 generations. Great place to have some space & quiet enough to have a nice visit & still accomodate a toddler.
Great authentic Italian food. Excellent friendly service. Nice place !
The food was excellent and the restaurant was not busy so we received good service in a quiet atmosphere that allowed for conversation (which was a treat since we had a party of 6).
pasta cooked perfectly, as usual. we went early as kid friendly. just love the place.
I absolutely love the food from here. I have the burrata and the gnocchi. Delicious!!
Food was delicious, service was great .
Was good as always. Waiter was snarky about gluten allergies and failed to bring the salad that someone in our party ordered. At least it never made it to the bill. Overall food was good, though, and we’ll go back again.
good food ,bad cocktails, week and small!! Watery cocktails in small glass!!
Excellent service, terrific food.
As always, Trattoria Gianni did not disappoint. Its veal saltimbocca is the best in the entire Chicago area - it almost melts in your mouth, excitedly stirring one's taste buds. My wife also had the saltimbocca and found it delicious. We live in the western suburbs, but make it a point to get to Gianni as often as we can. Five stars out of five possible!!
It is one of my regular spots for a pre or post-Steppenwolf dinner. It never disappoints.
I loved everything we had. Appetizers were outstanding. Our reservations were at 6 and we were seated immediately.
Such a quaint and authentic dining experience.
Our food had no flavor. It seemed like everything was prepared in advance and just reheated.
great Italian! Convenient to Steppenwolf. very attentive staff and nice wine selections . Heard the calamari is good, but was on low-fat restriction this visit!. looked good, though. specials were delish and would go again for sure!
I had the risotto and the wife had the duck, OMG!!! Absolutely fabulous. Fantastic food, fantastic service.
Everything was delicious and the service was superb
Outstanding service and delicious food .... will definitely be back again !
A gem of a place. Can’t wait to go back in the summer and enjoy the outdoor seating.
Food is excellent! Rigatoni was delicious and short ribs tender and flavorful. Even Cesar salad was just right. Wait staff cheerful and attentive.
Everything was perfect! The service was wonderful and the food amazing! Will definitely go back!
We have been dining here for over 18 years and am always satisfied with the menu selections and the food quality . Gianni does a great job welcoming you to his restaurant , yet doesn’t infringe on your meal.....always a gentleman and runs a first class place. Small , quaint , and wonderful!
Great food, very friendly staff. Very close to theaters and street parking avalible
Trattoria Gianni is a local gem in Lincoln Park. The food is always good and the staff friendly.
Lovely food and warm atmosphere. Our server, Matthew, was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and provided a humourous and efficient service. The food was fantastic; big recommendations include: calamari fritti, ricotta gnocchi and pork chop. The owner, Gianni, provides general, reassuring, oversight and a warm welcome and farewell.
Pleasant evening. Excellent service
Service and food was quite good, however the noise level was almost intolerable. You could not hear the person sitting next to you.
The service, good , & atmosphere was great. Felt rushed during our time there.
Everything was so-so, the tiramisu was bad, the soup bland and tasteless, don't think I will go back. Not worth the price.
Great food. Our server Marco gave us the perfect amount of attention and we appreciated the information he provided about the restaurant, menu items, and drinks.
We had a group of 16 for a family trip. This was a wonderful place to gather for authentic Italian food.
Perfect dining spot before or after the theater. Great Italian food and excellent service. we will be back........
The food and wine were nothing special but the prices are moderate and the service was fine.
$8.95 is very expensive for a mixed green salad with four very thin slices of apple/pear.
The carry out food was put in a very flimsy container and the sauce leaked out into the bag and it
was a mess. They need to upgrade the containers.
