Trattoria Gianni Ratings and Reviews
I've eaten here once before and it was very positive. This time also was very good, although some of the details may have slipped just a half-notch. We needed a pre-theater meal. We were seated promptly at our reservation time, which was much appreciated. Our server seemed to be working hard to be attentive but he had a lot of tables to juggle. Even so, we got out in plenty of time. We would have appreciated an explanation of specials and help with the wines, but what we came up with on our own was pretty good. We both had salads, we split an order of risotto as a first plate, and then we each had a 2nd plate / entree. My salad, with goat cheese, apple and pear, was tasty but overdressed. The mushroom risotto was a little liquidy but had a wonderful flavor. The beef filets with potatoes and mushrooms were supposed to be medium-rare; two pieces were, one wasn't. Delicious, though. We decided we didn't have time or room for coffee and dessert. We'll definitely go back. But believe that with a little more attention they could up their game even higher.
The restaurant is located across the street from Steppenwolf so it's perfect for pre theatre dinner. We had a 2 hour window but waited lengthy times for service. Unfortunately they were understaffed. It was our first time there and the experience was stressful.
Girls night for theatre and dinner. Two of us were New and two had dined here many years ago. Wonderful service with great food. Menu should include a few more choices and the Sparkling menu could include a couple of additional choices for sure, maybe from Valdobbiadene region, if I were ordering . Our expectations were met and we all marveled how delicious our different choices were. Great salads and entrees, but needed the few additional choices in the Pasta arena. We are all planning to return soon.
I honestly didn't make the dinner (originally for 3). Friends were in from out-of-town, and saw LATE NITE CATECHISM at the Royal George Theatre down the street from the restaurant. I was very sick, and unfortunately, couldn't make it that day. However, I did ask them how the restaurant was, and they thought it was very nice. They said the food was excellent!
We had a delicious dinner, the waiter was helpful and professional great recommendations on the food , my wife had grilled Branzino with vegetables i had the special pasta tagliatelle Caprese oven roasted tomatoes walnuts pesto fresh mozzarella very tasty , the wine list as a lot of choice we order Sauvignon blanc from jerman very good , for desert Home made Ravioli stuffed with Nutella and scoop of pistachio ice cream delicious., over all we were very please will recommend to our friends .
The service was fantastic and the staff great. For the price we expected a lot more high end food. Calimari was luke warm and a bit chewy. My wifes salmon was "fine" not $28 dollars for salmon fine, but ok. Pasta was ok and the seafood in that was ok but also less than I'd expect for the price. This was less than chain restaurant quality with half the portion and twice the cost.
The host was accommodating to the beautiful outdoor weather and was able to seat us in the beautiful quaint garden area w lights and well spaced tables for privacy. The smells as you passed the kitchen we’re mouth watering. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful in choosing menu featured items to finding the bathrooms. For a busy Saturday holiday “sweetest day” showtime 7pm reservation we did not feel rushed or overlooked. Our waitress was great very friendly attentive and helpful and witty. Our food was delicious we started w arancini wait staff recommend and yelp and it was perfect portion for two people and filling w the side of endless fresh warm crusty bread served. We order the gnocchi w vodka sauce a yelp user recommendation and staff as well as the fresh pasta special w sausage n peas both of us finished our courses full but not stuffed. We decided on a cannoli and tiramisu. The cannoli was nothing special we would pass on next time. the tiramisu was creamy perfect amount of cocoa and more than enough to enjoy at restaurant and take a little home for later. We will definitely be coming back. 3 things we loved the friendliness, food and fancy enough for special occasion yet comfortable enough for causal date night.
I read great reviews on how wonderful this place was, so I clearly had to try it! My boyfriend and I made a reservation for 6:45pm but we weren't seated till 7pm. I don't know if they were understaffed or what! Wasn't a huge deal, I understand it gets busy. After we sat down we weren't greeted or brought water till 7:15pm. Once again, it might have been understaffed. That did bother me because we had been at the restaurant for a half an hour before any proper greeting. I ordered the arancini appetizer which was delicious!!! I also received the Caesar salad and we both got the gnocchi. He got the regular and I got mine in vodka sauce. The vodka sauce with the gnocchi was TO DIE FOR!! It was sooo delicious!! I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu :)
We walked in and they knew my name. Yes, I made a reservation, but we were treated like family. We were immediately seated to a great table. The server offered a fabulous bottle of red wine. Our meal was delicious. I treated myself to dessert, the tiramisu was so good! I would suggest anyone and everyone try Trattoria Gianni! We went before a show next door. Let me tell you, dinner was as entertaining and as wonderful as the show. The service was excellent! We were on a girls trip to Chicago and we truly enjoyed our dinner. We were all glad that we made the effort and spent the time with Trattoria Gianni.
