We live not far from Trattoria Fresco and decided to finally try it even though we heard negative things about the service and attitude. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by a nice young man who brought us to our table, had bread, olives, and water brought to our table and took our order. After that we didn't see him again. Our salad was good as was our pasta. Both my husband and I enjoyed our meal. Then a man came out of the kitchen who I assume was the owner or someone on the kitchen staff. He came out of the back in a big rush, no smile and proceeded to put some extra parmesan cheese, which my husband had asked for, on my bread plate with all the olive pits on it. He was rushing around the room and both of us felt his vibe was quite unfriendly and even hostile. He practically threw the menus on our table when he asked if we wanted dessert. We declined after discussing it, paid our bill, and left. The room looked tired too which was too bad because it could really be a cute intimate little restaurant. So unfortunately, we wouldn't recommend this place. The owner or whoever came out of the kitchen, should consider his customers and perhaps greet them or at least smile and not make them feel rushed or ignored. It was just a bad vibe once he appeared......so we won't go back.
Excellent food at a reasonable price. Authentic Italian with a light organoleptic finesse. Efficient, friendly, but not intrusive service. Simple, yet pleasant environment.
Like finding a little unknown restaurant in Florence. Delicious entrees with great service. Our friends loved it too!
Neighborhood gem and excellent service. Great pasta dishes.
Wonderful dinner. Very Italian!
Excellent food and service! Will come back for sure!
I was ok with the food end wait service until my sister-in-law told me that they didn’t call her back when she left onions and jam under the table. I was definitely not on the mark when I heard that and I left. 30% tip.
As always, our evening at Trattoria Fresco was very good.
We love the cozy neighborhood ambiance, and our salads and pastas were excellent.
Excellent Homemade Italian fare and a good wine list. Portions are smaller but filling and a good value. Quaint neighborhood restaurant.
Salad as appetizer had room for improvement. Pasta was one of the best in Bay Area. Very friendly server. Small place, you think you are in Italy.
We have eaten here twice and have had delicious meals both times. Great lamb chops and pizza. Local casual restaurant with lovely attentive owner. We are going back tonight with a group of friends
Absolutely love this place. The food is amazing - delicious, fresh authentic. Been to Italy so I know what I am talking about. Truly a Marin County gem!
A great neighborhood bistro for small groups of friends to eat very good italian food.
Pretty good, not a place for impressing your OK Cupid guest...friendly to families. They need to rename the chicken balls entree to chicken Meatballs and offer four on the plate instead of three. Tasty little morsels!
Good food, wonderful service and fun atmosphere
great to share with friends.
Unfortunately the food was good but the owner was incredibly rude...a real bummer
Trattoria Fresco never fails to please. Everything is well prepared and satisfying. Great pasta dishes and deserts to kill for. The absolute only quibble I have is that when the party of 7 I was with requested more bread we were told they'd only baked one loaf and they ran out. Oh well, things happen. This is a great small and intimate restaurant.
Great service. Food was fresh. Awesome.
Hate bad reviews but maybe this can be a wake up call. I remember now why we haven't been back in years. Food was far too expensive, poor quality and boring presentation. Had to send my steak strips back, not med rare as ordered. The garlic and oil spinach was very good. This place could be a great local find if they upped their game. Saturday night and the place was pretty empty.
Ordered 3 pasta dishes - all tasted about the same, small portions for the price. We left hungry and disappointed
I always enjoy dining at Trattoria Fresco. Marco has created a fabulous restaurant.
This restaurant is a gem! We had a very nice dinner before attending a play at the Ross Valley Players. The romano and green salads were so fresh and delicious. I had the pasta with a delicate red sauce and wild boar meat, which was scrumptious. My date enjoyed the salmon in truffle oil with potatoes and vegetables. And we couldn't resist having the dark chocolate mousse with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
While the food is delicious, that's not quite the point here. Open Table's questionnaire suggests the phrase "neighborhood gem" and that's what Trattoria Fresco is. A small, modest room with efficient service. A nice selection of appetizers, entrees and wine. Above all, low key so you can actually unwind and enjoy your company and the meal. We love it.
excellent always, as it has been for many years Perfect Italian cuisine, fresh, simple, extremely well prepared. QUIET ambince, very comfortable and very northern Italian
This was a really delicious meal. We started with the sausage pasta, and it was perfect!
So tasty, and the pasta was just right.
For the second course, we had the wild salmon, and it was one of the best salmon dishes I've had.
Tira Misu was delicious for a finishing touch.
Marco was very helpful and friendly. The ambiance was great; very quiet and romantic.
This is a true "neighborhood gem." Highly recommended!
The food at this little neighborhood gem is outstanding. Simply delightful. The pasta was cooked to al dente perfection, and the sauces--on both our dishes--were sublime.
The food was outstanding, but the service was subpar. It's possible that it was an off night, or a bad day, but overall the waitress provided unacceptable service. For spending the amount that we did, the value of the food was great, but the service was bad. It would be questionable whether we would recommend the place to a friend. We would probably give it a second chance, but would likely see how it pans out spending much less and heading over to La Loggia in San Anselmo for some wine.
I was hopeful after reading some other reviews, but this place never got there. I believe the owner was on premise, but even though there was only one table occupied (of the 7-8 in the restaurant), no one greeted us for several minutes. The owner came by and gave a cursory greeting. Waitress didn't seem excited about her job or the food. Questions about the pastas came back with "I don't know, everyone's different" response. The pasta itself was OK, though the creamy tomato sense was quite bland. My Italian sausages were dry and the cannelloni beans also lacked a certain savoriness. Again, bland.
Won't be back.
Average food and small selection.
quiet , great food, simple décor and a neighborhood favorite.
Beautifully seasoned Italian cuisine . Pleasant out going chef who manages to greet to cook and serve
Well, the chef was all alone and he did the best he could waiting on tables and really trying to make everyone happy...all 4 tables! I felt bad for him and really wanted to like this restaurant since it was our first time there and it was our Wedding Anniversary! Not sure we'd return :(
So the wait staff could care less about what you think or want. I first mentioned that the olive oil was the color of water/ not golden or even a color/ clear!
When I mentioned this to the waiter I got a rude response!! Our waitress was uncaring. Bread was scarce as they only bake 2 loaves a day.
This place has been on my radar- it is now so dead on it!!!
My recommendation is Do Not Bother!!!!!!
It has been in Biz for quite a long time so was it just a bad day:night or what?!!
More help needed. One efficient waitress served as busgirl too. She was very pleasant despite the hectic pace.
I've been to Trattoria Fresco twice now and both times was amazed at the multiple layers of flavorings in the pasta sauces. Wow! I couldn't get enough. And my dining partner said the same thing. The sauce was perfect - light, yet gutsy. Not overly heavy. So tasty. The only downside was they ran out of their homemade bread so I didn't have a slice to sop up the remaining wonderful sauce -- I almost licked the plate!
Marco is the heart and soul (and chef) of his restaurant. We have now been three times and will go back many more, making the drive from Inverness to Ross just to eat Marco's dishes. We travel to Italy a lot and this is the real thing. Also a terrific value.
We were here recently to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Couldn't have picked a more perfect place. This little neighborhood gem is consistently delicious. From the simple yet vibrant salads to the fresh pasta perfectly sauced to the generously portioned entrees, Cafe Fresco is a food lover's delight. Service was warm and wonderful. We enjoyed chatting with Lucca, who is a wealth of information on Italy and Italian food and wine. Marco, owner and chef extraordinaire came out from behind the kitchen and entertained us with his own stories. Best of all, I got to practice my Italiano. Can't wait to return.
The homemade pastas are good though nothing to rave about. Portions are small for the prices.
Additional salad choices would improve the selection.
We had a delicious dinner here before attending a performance of the Ross Valley Players. It is a cozy bistro with delicious & affordable Italian food and good service. Highly recommended!
