    We celebrated a birthday at Trattoria Fresco. Everything was perfect. The food is prepared to order by the owner/chef, who also is the server, or was when we went there. He was charming, prompt, and attentive to our preferences. The food is homestyle Italian, with all pasta made in house. We loved it.

    Marco, the owner seems to do it all. He's very friendly, helpful and wrote the menu to reflect what's in season. He goes weekly to the farmers market and buys the best quality ingredients. His restaurant is neighborly and attracts people who like good food. The town of Ross is quaint and the restaurant fits in perfectly. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed .

    We had an early and delicious dinner before attending the play at Ross Valley Players. We often eat here before a performance. Very nice setting, service and food!

    Some of the best food anywhere in a cozy setting. … Too bad that’s not really enough when the waiter knows pretty much nothing about the menu and even less about the wine list. They didn’t even flip the sign from “chiuso “ to “aperto “ so we weren’t even sure they were open yet. … The waiter could not answer any of our questions, offered no advice and just didn’t seem to grasp how to welcome diners to improve a fine dining experience. All questions went to the chef, who was of course too busy to multitask. No discussing anything, just order! Presto! … When I asked for another glass of wine, the waiter got stuck. I waited five minutes hoping they’d figure things out, but no. I went up with a smile to tell him what I was drinking. Bad move. The chef told me to go back and sit down. I returned to our table with a frown. Felt like I ordered a round of them! Turns out we would have been better off ordering a bottle both for price and convenience. … This was a Saturday during prime dinner hour, when you would expect to meet their best team. … They asked what dessert I wanted, but never brought a dessert menu! I asked for something chocolate and got nowhere even though something was listed online.

    This is our favorite restaurant in the area. Marco is a wonderful chef and very friendly. We visit from out of the area every year and we come to this restaurant several times during our stay.

    Trattoria Fresco is a lovely little trattoria, like you would find on a street in an Italian town. The food was authentic, and delicious, the portions while plenty were not over served. My husband said the Tortelloni filled with cheeses was one of the best he has ever had, light and "fluffy", and my choice of Bucatini with sauteed guanciale was very flavorful, without any one flavor overpowering another. They had a decent choice of wines by the glass, not an overwhelming selection but plenty to choose from. The atmosphere is casual, simple tables and settings in a small, intimate space. The service was fine, but they have a limited staff, so if you go, plan to dine European style, slow and relaxed. Sit back and enjoy the food and company!

    This place reminded me of the authentic family-owned restaurants we found all over Italy. The chef/owner did everything! Homemade pasta is my bar for an Italian restaurant. Bottom line is the food is amazing! We loved every course! Forza Viola!

    Marco is a chef from Florence. He deserves to have a line out the door every night. We have been there many times, alone and with friends, and his food is flawless and delicious.

    We always enjoy Marco’s authentically Italian pastas and secondi, like the pappardelle cinghiale and grilled lamb chops. The desserts and the selection of red wines from Tuscany make dinner here like an escape to Italy.

    The food at Trattoria Fresco reminds me of Italy: seemingly simple dishes that taste great because they are made from fresh, quality ingredients, and prepared just perfectly. Everything was good, but the cod baked in parchment with truffle oil was especially moist and delicious.

    highly recommend! Great vibes and amazing food. I've been many times to Trattoria Fresco, and is never ceases to impress. One of my favorites of the night was the Salmon which was cooked perfectly , crispy skin, tender and clean light seasoning. Both the Romana and Arugula Salads are must haves. The deep savory and variety of flavors of the pastas hits the spot.

    We have dined twice at the restaurant. The owner/chef has been close to rude both times. Pasta and small pizzas (owner hates to call it pizza) are pretty decent. The experience leaves you quite disappointed.

    It is a small space with about eight tables. The menu is accessed on one's phone from a QR code on the side of the sugar container. When the server brought a basket of bread it had three tiny end crusts. Additional bread is $2.00. We thought the two wines by the glass we ordered were not particularly worth the price. The pasta dishes were fairly bland. The waiter was pleasant and did a good job. The cook, perhaps also the owner, assisted the waiter from time to time. We thought the overall experience was lacking.

    Aside from the fact that they were out of a couple of items we wanted to order what we got was quite good. It was noisy because another table had kids who were very loud- it's a small place so the noise carried.

    We liked the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. The location is perfect; in the small tucked away downtown of Ross, with plenty of parking available. We order Melanzane (Orechiette with sauteed crispy organic eggplants in garlic herbs tossed with pecorino cheese) and Salmone (Grilled wild filet of salmon in sesame seeds topped with truffle oil and organic honey). The dishes were made to perfection, and they were delicious. While eating the Orecchiette, I thought for a moment I was transported into another geographical area: Puglia! Highly recommend Trattoria!

    We have been coming here for nearly 10 years, and the food is consistently the best Italian in Marin, hands down. I’ve been all over Italy and it genuinely feels like you’re in a little trattoria down a small, cobblestone-lined alley in Florence. The vibe is laid back (there is often jazz or something fun playing quietly on the radio), the food comes steaming right from the kitchen just a few feet away, and every dish is bursting with flavor and layered texture. You can’t go wrong with any item on the menu from top to bottom…and we’ve tried them all. Don’t come here expecting white glove, crystal stemware service…come for the authentic food and experience.

    Authentic Tuscan trattoria, great service and meal! My husband and I ordered the grilled artichokes, pappardelle al cinghiale, gnocchi with blue cheese and the grilled porkchops with vegetables. Marco. who does double duty as chef and server, recommended the torta della nonna for dessert, which was perfect. We will definitely be back!

    Disappointed evening here. Restaurant was cold & uncomfortable. We asked for more bread - no more ! We tried to order soup - ran out - at 7 pm. Cappuccino- no - but can heat milk in the microwave!! I was excited to try this restaurant after reading reviews but sadly did not live up to any of them. + side- pastas shone , salad & burrata good. Marco our server did his best.

    Dining at Fresco Trattoria is a visit to Italy. Every dish is alive with flavors rarely found in most Italian restaurants outside of Italy. This is why we return again and again. The quiet and ease to park here is another rarity. The tastes from our dinner, linger days later. The Marco Tortelloni, the gnocchi, to the olive oil on the table and to every perfectly cooked main dish steak, salmon, chicken, is a treasure. The Romana salad, to finish or to start, looks so ordinary when it arrives, but its flavors just sing on the plate. Grazie!

    Marco is the master of real Italian Pasta. I had the tuna and anchovie infused black pasta -- it was sensational, rich in flavor and great in texture. It was beautifully briny -- almost like kissing the sea. We have been going to this restaurant for many years. If you want great honest-to-God pasta cooked with real Italian flair, this is a great place to go.

    We were the only party in the restaurant. The owner acted as both chef and server. Very good traditional food, including pizzas and pastas. A great neighborhood Italian restaurant.

    We've been to this restaurant a few times now and pretty much everything is delicious. There's one dish that's insanely good and worth calling out - the rigatoni with sauteed sweet Italian sausages in a cream truffle sauce.

    Marco makes magic! Tucked neatly in Ross, this unassuming gem was recommended by the Chron. Well worth the trip as the flavors of the food was extraordinary !! The Cinghiale with wild boar was flavorful beyond compare. Maybe a bit salty to some tastes but I would return just for this. The Porcini was molto autentico like a meal we had in a cave restaurant in Tuscany. The Angello was grilled perfectly and worth picking the bones clean with your teeth! The white beans in tomato/rosemary were worth the trip by themselves. The flat bread "not a pizza" was outstanding and the crust was singed just enough to let you know you had sinned eating it... The atmosphere was starkly romantic but a bit chilly so wear sox and layer up. The place only has about 9 tables so it was quite cozy. Marco, the owner /chef, was very personable and wished to know how we felt about each course . So service was great. Tell your friends. Great for a second date to seal the deal!

    We very much enjoyed our NYE meal at Trattoria Fresco. Our waiter was warm and attentive and made the evening, All courses were delicious and we enjoyed what was clearly an authentic Italian feast. We will be back!

    Best Italian food in Marin--it's like going into a small trattoria in Italy. Every friend or family we've taken here has loved it as well. Try the Bottarga--excellent, especially with the dried tuna egg. Marco ages the egg for 6 months in the kitchen. Also the Tartufate. Half rigatoni, mild Italian sausage with creamed truffle paste. And the insalata Roma is spectacular if you like lemon juice and anchovy dressing. Much cleaner taste than a Caesar.

    We ordered salads which were great. However very underwhelmed with main meal. Maybe should have tried the pasta but we decided to go with ossobuco and ribeye and were both very disappointing. Very dry.

    Fresco is hands-down the best ‘by-the-book’ authentic Italian food in Marin. The chef / owner changes the food based on the season, and offers a menu full of unique dishes that are hard to find elsewhere except in Italy. Be sure to make reservations, (we’ve watched many people turned away) and check the on-line menu before you go. It’s our go-to Italian in the area, and once you visit it will be yours too!

    Fine neighborhood Italian Trattoria where many of the pastas are made in-house (unusual for Marin) and the menu reflects the Tuscan background of the chef. Marco, the chef/owner, is in the kitchen himself every day and prepares each dish to order. He may also deliver the food to your table. The menu has year-round standards that regulars love as well as being adjusted seasonally to reflect what may be available in the markets. When the restuarant is full, this sometimes means you will have a bit of a wait. While the wine list is short, it is well selected and suited to the menu. Corkage is reasonable. The occassional Italian wine dinners, done in concert with an importer, are excellent!
