Food was great, service was fine. The noise level was unbearable! Would not go back for that reason.
Our service was good and the food was as well. It was very loud and hard to hear others at our table for 4.
Truly tremendous food & service! We eat often in the North End and it’s usually quite good but Monica’s was a wow! We’ll be back. All four of us loved our meals and Perry is a joy as a server.
The arancini was fantastic. The drink menu was so fresh and fun. I ordered the chicken and gnocchi special and it was fantastic!!
The spinach gnocchi was amazing as was the veal braciolettini. The arancini was also delicious. The wine list was small but very reasonable prices.
A MUST WHILE IN BOSTON - My server Tiffany greeted me quickly, brought my beverages, told me about 4 specials and made me feel welcome.
Since my last visit, they have expanded seating by about 5 times. They did a great job on the remodel and are able to feed many more folks.
Everyone was nice, great Italian Food, I will return on next visit to Boston.
We waited here for 2 hours and NEVER got our food. The kitchen (open kitchen in a small restaurant) was completely overwhelmed with orders and the chef was yelling and swearing at the staff all night. Have lived in the North End for years and always loved all of Monica's places but they have continually disappointed us and we won't be visiting them again.
Very good good, Nice service.. but couldn't keep a conversation without yelling because if the kitchen's background noise. IT kinda ruined the end of our meal
My wife and I were hopeful when going to the re-opened Trattoria di Monica. We loved the food and recommended it to many people, including those visiting Boston. While we loved the place, it was small and had a problem seating us anywhere near our reservation time (we waited as long as an hour after our reservation and were never seated on time in all of our many visits there).
We got to the restaurant at 7 PM, our reservation time and once again waited. But now the restaurant has a bar, which makes it easier to wait, which was only 20 minutes, just about the shortest ever. But they shortened the beer list, with Peroni the best option. I know it is an Italian place, but couldn’t you have kept Sam Adams lager?
The new space is nice and a lot more energetic than that previous space, about half of the current set up. The new configuration also included some significant price bumps.. We sat down, with one couple to our left and an empty table to the right. We placed an order for a salad to share and started to wait. The table to our left got bread and two appetizers. Nothing. A couple sat to our right and immediately got bread. None for us. After 50 minutes our salad showed up. The waitress offered us a complimentary drink, which my wife accepted. Then we waited for our entree. And waited. And waited.
When it arrived my gnocchi was as good as I remembered it. But my wife’s pasta dish was not up to their original standards.
Bottom line is we like the new space but they seem to have big problems with their second seating. It used to just be getting in on time. Now it extends to serving all of the people in a timely fashion.
We won’t be going back.
We had a reservation at 7pm and as soon as we walked in they told us that they were running at least 20 minutes behind on reservations. We were seated 20 minutes late but didn’t get waited on for another 10 min. Then it took another 30 minutes for our appetizer to come (simple bruschetta). When we looked at the menu, all of the prices were $5-$8 higher than what had been online. We finally got our meal and it was just average. Had we known the price increase, we would have picked another recommended restaurant that was in a higher price range. I will not return. Very disappointing!
The food at Monica's was fabulous, and our waitress was perfect (not rushed, and she had good suggestions). The only downside was that it is very loud (this was mentioned in a few other reviews I saw as well). Overall we loved it though, and would definitely go back for another visit.
We are North End locals and have been wanting to try the renovated Monica's Trattoria since it reopened a few months ago. We are so glad we went! Hands down, this is our new #1 spot for homemade Italian pasta. Every appetizer and entree that we ordered was a hit (group of 4 people, I tried all four entrees!) Great for both meat and seafood dishes. The open kitchen was a little noisy, as you feel/see the energy of a bustling kitchen. We enjoyed this feature, but I would caution that if you want a quiet spot you won't find it here. Lastly to note, one of our diners was gluten free and while the restaurant offered gluten free options (by substituting rice), they do not offer gluten free pasta. We are already talking about going back to try other dishes.
Loved everything about Monica's. The food and service were excellent and the atmosphere cozy on a cold dreary night. Can't wait to return!
Preferred the coziness of the old space, food was good but not the same "wow" of the old hole in the wall spot. They just reopened so let's see how it goes.
Always a great experience! Food is best in North End.
We had to wait for 30 mins despite having booked a table. The noise level was extremely high (we could not hear each other). Finally the food was good but not worth the price!
First time since expansion and absolutely loved it, but of course we loved the old place and quite frankly, we thought you might lose some of the appeal.... but absolutely NOT!
I use to love this restaurant, before they renovated. Now the kitchen is extra loud and the charm is gone. The food isn't as good as it used to be either.
This was the first time being back to the restaurant after the renovation. The restaurant was beautiful, but the noise level was so loud I couldn’t even hear my date. It was extremely disappointing.
Great restaurant for fresh pasta and great wine. Perfect if you want to sit at the bar and watch the game, too.
Monica's has been my favorite North End restaurant for years. The newly renovated and expanded restaurant is beautiful, roomy and has a bar and an open kitchen. However, the best thing about the new Monica's is that the food and service have not changed...the food is exceptional and the Waite staff is awesome.
Great expanded space. Love all the exposed brick. Nice warm lighting. Mustvtry tge sweet potato gnocchi!
The new remodel is young and urban. The food was always great but now it's amazing.
First time back here since their renovations and it was amazing. The restaurant itself is so much bigger and the bar is beautiful! My boyfriend and I got the burrata bruschetta appetizer which was great. For dinner we shared the fettuccini Nero that tasted even better than we remembered and the mushroom ravioli! We sadly didn’t save room for dessert but we saw other tables enjoying tiramisu that looked lovely. The staff was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, and overall we had a wonderful date night out. Keep it up Monica’s glad to see you back!
This used to be one of my favorite places before the renovation. I don't know what happened, but this visit was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. The food came out at odd times. One app came out 2min before half the entrees. It took another 15min to get the last entree on the table. The food was the quality of an all inclusive resort in Cancun. The service was equally as bad. This was an important business outing and we all left with a bad taste in our mouth…literally.
Waited 2 hours for apps and 3+ hours for food
We had to wait 15 minutes despite having a reservation. We waited about an hour for our food after ordering. No one in our area of the restaurant has food for a period of about 45 minutes. Food was not worth an hour wait, no acknowledgement of the long wait was made.
Food took over 1.5 hours for an entree! Multiple tables around me had issues as well. Had people come into the restaurant and leave as they realized how disorganized the restaurant was from a service standpoint.
Terrible experience. People next to us spilt an entire bottle of wine on my girlfriend and her meal and the waitress did nothing about it. Still had to pay for the entire meal. Very disappointed how it was handled.
As always, Monicas did not disappoint! They finally put my favorite meal on the menu as a regular dish, as it was a "special" for over 2 years. The newly renovated space is MUCH bigger. The original had some charm to it with very limited seating. Now it is quite loud, but at least there is more room to move. Exposed brick walls and ability to see the chef in action is a great plus. My favorite spot in the North End!
Besides the fact that the place is deafening with a few tables full, the service was abysmal - I think they totally forgot our appetizers - Sat their for over an hour waiting. The calamari was probably the worst I have ever had. The chicken was so overkilled and saturated in oil - Their sides? They should be embarrassed to serve such a sad portion. Really an unfortunate experience all around - Will not go back here
We went for my daughters 14th birthday on a Saturday night. All the food we ordered was great. The staff was very friendly but clearly spread thin and it seemed like everything was running behind - we had to wait for water glasses to be cleaned. Also very noisy. Overall, the food was worth it but maybe a weekday when less busy would be better.
We had to wear our coats because the windows were so drafty. The entrees took over an hour to show up. Only after telling the waitstaff that we were about to leave did the plates magically appear. The food was average at best. In the spirit of finding something positive, our waitress was wonderful and was constantly trying to accommodate for a substandard establishment.
Meal was excellent. Service a little slow, but not intolerable. We would go back again.
Amazing and delicious. I've always been a fan of Monica's Mercado across the street and this place was so nice to sit eat all the wonderful food.
This is not only the best restaurant in the North End... but the entire city. What a beautiful new spot - lucky to have a place like this in our city!
Waitress was super nice. The rest of my party showed up late and she remained friendly the whole time. Caprese appetizer was lights out. Main dish (veal) was also top notch. Highly recommend.
Horrible since remodel. Not the same restaurant
Just recently opened after completing a remodel - so glad to have tried it here. Small and unassuming from the outside but step inside and be prepared to be delighted. Great wine list and full bar with some delicious cocktails! You can also enjoy the full menu at the bar. Menu has some italian staples and many staples with a twist! All the pasta is home made - the orecchiette with rabe and shrimp was delicious, the mushroom ravioli was fresh and flavorful and the linguine with clam sauce was also very good and had a good amount of clams in the dish. We started with the olive and cheese appetizer - generous portion for three of us to share. No dessert this time but we will be back!
