Great as always
Everything on the menu is delicious.
Our dinner was ok, not as good as it used to be. My pasta was a little bland.
Awesome!! Best italian reataurant in Boston! Food, place and service were all outstanding. Try the gnocci with truffles!
We used to love coming to Monica’s but since the renovation it just hasn’t been the same. The salads are over dressed, prepared ahead and wilted/mushy, the pasta heavy and oily. The caprese didn’t inspire. Tiramisu was the highlight!
But it was the service that was the most memorable- our waitress talked too fast, provided slow service, came at odd times to order (when one person was in the bathroom) and dropped the check when we were still eating
Rude waiter and worse owner waste of time and money
Food was ok but room was so loud we could not hear each other talking
possibly just a night with a lot of big parties
will try again
It has become one of my (few) go-to spots in the North End. Food is always excellent. The main dining area can be a bit noisy/loud when it's crowded (one of the sacrifices that apparently came with last year's expansion - the smaller space was quaint and much quieter!). So, now when I go, I arrive early and hopefully land seats at the bar (which is much quieter).
Friends in town who wanted Italian - the gnocchis LITERALLY melted in their mouths....Fabulous meal, I’ll be back soon!!
Plenty of room in a Tuesday night!!
Top quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Highly recommend
We were seated and the host promptly seated a party of 18 men that were beyond loud. I was told the loud and obnoxious patrons were part of the "ambience " of the restaurant. The most outrageous part of the night was when one of the wait staff through out my wife's dinner, (which was more than half left) instead of packing it up. We asked them to either take it off the bill or make another partial dinner to take home. They did not want to do this and stated, "you ate half the meal, what's the problem" Finally they made a partial meal and apologized for the issue. There is NO need for us ever to go back to this restaurant which is unfortunate as we have been there other times and it was quite good.
Kind of have to go in a funny hallway door to get in, but some cool decor on the wall just inside. Delicious butternut squash ravioli, mediocre regular ravioli, the arancini had surprise beef in it - good wine selection, nice service, felt a tiny bit rushed. Overall pleasant!
This is one of my most favorite places in the Northend for Italian! I go with a couple friends or sit at the bar that overlooks the cooking when I am alone. Authentic, lively and from the heart of the cooks to deliver the true love and experience of Italian dining
Very good food, interesting specials, reasonable wine list, good value, great service.
Not particularly Keto friendly but thats irrelevant for most
Parking is difficuklt.
First time in, and wasn't disappointed. As soon as I walked in I was greeted right away. Met a lovely bartender where I had a glass of wine pre dinner. I got the spinach gnocchi, and my girlfriend had the butternut ravioli special. My server Tiff was wonderful from start to finish. Will definitely be back.
First glass of Primitivo was "off," but the waitress promptly replaced it with a fresh pour. Veal Saltimbuco was unfortunately overcooked and tough, but when dealing with a scalopini, that can happen. The Little Italy cocktail was absolutely heavenly! I love this place--it is my preferred dining choice in the North End.
My husband and I have lived in the North End for years and this by far is our new favorite spot. Monica's dishes are so flavorful and you can tell made with love and paid attention to. The specials are always so on point and delicious! I have brought Family, Friends & Clients here and everybody always walks out impressed and satisfied.
It was a cold dreary Sunday afternoon when we entered Monica's but the ambiance food and tremendous service left us 100% satisfied at the end of the evening. if you want to substitute and try different pasta varieties this is the place.
Love the place and the food....been coming here for years. Service was really lacking. The waitress was not a good communicator and I received something I didn’t expect. I let it go. But then when I was charged for 2 items instead of one, I challenged it. I didn’t want to pay for $11 salad when I thought that was part of the appetizer, not in addition to. She brought over the manager and I explained the situation yet again. I was expecting them to take $11 off the $200 bill, but they did not. We took it off the tip instead. It was very surprising but I guess that is what you get when you are served by millennials....they are always right, not the customer.
Food was salty
My husband and I had considered Monica's one of our favorite restaurants...until last Saturday night. We did have a wonderful waitress but were slightly put off by sitting at a table for two right next to another table for two - we got used to it - I remembered a mouth-watering tomato/mozzarella app in September and was disappointed in the tomatoes (I understand it is not easy to get fresh ones in March) - my chicken francesca was floating in garlic oil and the cannoli was extremely disappointing too. Perhaps this was all due to it being a very busy Saturday night but it was very disappointing.
Our zillionth time at Monica's... Food and service are always wonderful. Never a bad meal.
Could not have been more perfect. Fantastic service.
They put us at a table next to the bar with a giant screen tv blaring over our heads, and open large trash cans next to our table. We asked to be moved to the other room (that has the candlelit ambience they advertise) and were not accommodated. The meatballs were literally still frozen in the middle and my scallops smelled to high heaven. Save yourself the trip - would not recommend.
I had dined at Monica about two years ago before they closed for renovation/expansion and very much enjoyed it. Not so much this time. I had looked at the menu online before going and was disappointed to find a much smaller and more expensive menu. Bait and switch or just negligent Web management? Doesn't matter, still a disappointment. They did not have the zucchini blossoms even tho they were on the menu. Again disappointed. My chicken Francese was okay, but a little greasy. Okay is not good enough at the price. Service also just okay. Efficient enough but with that slightly sneering attitude that younger people seem to have with older folks. I will not go back.
Great meal, daily special(butternut squash ravioli was exceptional.
Very good value, brick walls are nice, but on a very cold night it was just a bit chilly.
Will recommend to all!!
We went on a Saturday night and were looking for a place that had the romantic ambiance for a date night but also good food. We found Monica's to have both. We arrived 15 minutes early and our table was not ready but the friendly hostess told us we could hang out at the bar or anywhere outside but nearby the restaurant that she would text us as soon as the table was ready. We decided to go across the street to checkout the neighborhood until we received a text that our table was ready. We will definitely come back to Monica's.
Delicious! Tegan was great and attentive despite it being busy. First time there for dinner and will definitely be going back!
This was our third time to Monica’s Trattoria and the first after the remodel. The food was not in the same ballpark as it once was. This was once our favorite restaurant, the expansion hurt the quality of the food and warm elegance it once had.
Friendly waitress who helped us decide what to eat. Prompt service! Very nice Valentine’s Day spot.
It was a Monday night, so it wasn’t packed. Food was outstanding for all three of us. Service was lovely, efficient, and thorough. It’s been quite a while since my last visit here and I loved the renovations. So much more open while adding even more Italian charm. Try it. You won’t be disappointed.
Great restaurant. They do not rush you and the food is fantastic.
Good as always - our favorite local place - the specials are the best
Monica's used to be our favorite restaurant in the North End, but after reopening and going back 2x we likely won't go back. Food is significantly more expensive and it honestly wasn't that good. We ordered Calamari, Caprese Salad and the Bolognese. Calamari was undercooked and underseasoned, tomatoes in the caprese were barely ripe, and the bolognese was lukewarm. So disappointed!
Food was amazing, but It’s super loud to the point where it was hard to carry a conversation.
A very nice restaurant and the food was superb and the service and ambiance was excellent.
Happy for Monica's that has been successful.
It is now very sleek which probably appeals to younger crowd.
Miss some of its former charm and touches.
Service was wonderful. We didnt have much time and thy adjusted everything so the dishes could come out fast. Food was really good; we had the special gnocchi (truffle gnocchi).
