It used to be our favorite go to spot! Got way too big, food mediocre at best, service pleasant but extremely slow. Please bring old Monica’s back!!!
Incredible food, wine, service and ambiance keep us coming to this little jewel in Boston’s Historic North End whenever we are in town. Patrick and his amazing team never disappoint!
The food was not good. Watery sauce and missing ingredients. It used to be great but must have lost all chefs.
Cozy atmosphere, good date night.
The bar area is gaudily decked out with fake flowers.
Bread serving seems stingy and like it may have come from the supermarket.
Entrees were good but pricey.
Restaurant did not honor reservation - instead, the hostess tried to justify taking walk-ins while multiple parties with reservations were left without a table.
I had a wonderful meal and experience. Opted to eat outdoors, which I enjoyed, watching the neighborhood go by and not dealing with the loud volume you often find indoors. (Don’t know how Trattoria Monica is on that count.) Service was excellent, from hostess to waitresses to busboy. And the food was great. Started with the Caesar including anchovies, which included a generous helping of good quality ones. I then had the pappardelle; only regret was I ate all my salad and couldn’t finish the pappardelle. I’d go back anytime.
The food was exceptional and the menu had a wide variety of outstanding dishes. The service was good and the staff was friendly. I’m Italian and it was some of the best food I’ve ever had
They are a wonderful restaurant with delicious food.
Stick to drinks at the bar. The food is just average.
Delicious food! Amazing drinks. The ambient was just perfect! A bit expensive, but definitely worth your money!
Terrific food. Very, very noisy. Tables were too close together. Can highly recommend the food, but be prepared for a cacophony.
This used to be my favorite restaurant in the North End and one of the best in Boston. But my last two meals there were disappointments. I would love to give specific feedback to the chef.
Beautiful setting. Food is good. Not exceptional
After having an excellent experience and delicious meal at Monica’s on Wednesday evening we cancelled a reservation at a different restaurant because we had enjoyed Monica’s so much the night before. Upon arrival I told the hostess we had a reservation and she proceeded to bring us to a table for one, adding a chair would have put us into the hallway. We asked for a different table since the restaurant was not crowded . We were told that people “might” be coming in so we couldn’t be seated at a larger table as we had the previous night. We were seated at a different table for 2 which was fine as it was in a decent location. We were then brought our water and bread but were ignored for 15 minutes, Obviously being punished for asking for a decent table. We got up and left $5.00 for the bread and left the restaurant very disappointed. What a difference a day makes.
I have been going to Monica’s for many years. Always amazing food and service. After a year of lockdown, I ventured out to my favorite restaurant and found outdoor seating that nearly tripled their table service and still provided the high quality food and service that I love from this fine dining establishment. All my best to Monica’s as they continue to navigate a challenging time in restaurant management. Boston Strong!
I ordered the pomodoro. The sauce wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t flavorful and cooked down too much. Didn’t taste fresh.
We arrived early for our reservation and they sat us immediately. We enjoyed everything about this restaurant and will continue to go for their great food. Loved it!
I was really excited to visit Monica’s again. Unfortunately what started off as a clearly busy evening quickly escalated. Spending years in the industry, my husband and I are patient, but after being sat at 8:20 we checked on our appetizers at 9:10 and they weren’t even being prepped. Shocked that they wouldn’t get the cold apps out (Buratta), we opted to skip right to our meals. I’m pregnant and was starving by this point. At 9:40, with no meals in sight we made the decision to pay for our drinks and call it. What made matters worse was being sat at the table right by the kitchen, a wonderful lively spot, but the chef was on a tear and screaming at everyone, for the entire hour. Degrading people left and right. I left my 2 year old at home, but could have listened to her yelling for an hour without the price tag and hunger. After all this, the only thing prompting me to write was the chefs youngest daughter telling us to have a terrible night as we left. She has no idea what happened inside but was being a defiant 10 year old. Perfectly acceptable anywhere but the service industry. Honestly such a huge bummer.
BEST CARBONARA IN THE WORLD! I haven’t stopped talking about it!
The drinks and service was amazing anyway but this carbonara is a must try!
It was great! Loved the food and the atmosphere!
Hostess and server were very friendly and always followed up for any requests. Plenty of menu items and food was delicious! I like the open kitchen and the flower decorated bar.
Great food and great service! We loved the outdoor seating
Great food. Fun night. Excellent service.
Slow service even when not full.
Food is overpriced for the quality.
The food was amazing!! I asked the waitress for a recommendation and it was spot on. She was very friendly and good at was she does. Will definitely return!
Great. Excellent food. Sat on sidewalk patio. Norma was server and was top notch. Too 10 on highest quality dinners I’ve ever had
We love the pistachio martinis!!!
We waited 20 minutes for a waitress/waiter to acknowledge us. We asked if we had a waitress to someone bussing tables and she spoke to a hostess, but still no waitress. We left unhappy. Never will I return.
A hidden gem! We had a wonderful experience! Our server Candy was excellent and extremely helpful. The food was all very good. We enjoyed watching the chefs. All the staff work very hard to make it an excellent dining experience! We will be back again.
Among the very best, authentic Italian restaurants in Boston, pasta, sauce, seafood couldn't be fresher or better seasoned. A great place to dine, inside or outside, when you visit the North End!
The food was amazing. Red sauce or white, it’s all done wonderfully here. Meatballs to start, then chicken parmigiana and carbonara. Great Abruzzo wine paired well with both dishes.
The music was very loud causing us to have to speak very loudly to one another. However once we asked the server to turn it down, it was more manageable.
When walking up to the front of the restaurant, we were unsure if the hostess’s were actually employees or just patrons. This was mostly due to their dress. Very casual/club wear and less classy than expected for an establishment like this.
The inside is beautiful and quaint like a classic Italian restaurant should be. We’ll be back.
Food was very good. Service was excellent. The fried artichokes weren't as good as they used to be?? But drinks were well made and everyone's main dish was delicious. Monica's continues to be one of our favorite spots in the North End.
Great dinner. Enjoyed it.
Very poor dining experience. All three dinners were bland , Luke warm and over priced.
Food was great, but it was WAY too loud.
Nice location, good ambiance and outstanding food! Staff and service were both great too.
There are sooo many restaurants in the North End. I had read an overview from a blogger which led to this selection but now wish I had used something else...Yelp, Trip Advisor, etc.
The best way for me to describe the food is to have you picture Larry David saying "Meh" and that is how I felt. My husband had the Veal Milanese and I had the Chicken Milanese. While the arugula was very fresh, the protein had been battered and deeply fried so much so that it was difficult to cut with a knife. I'm sure that the kitchen is hot and I feel for the staff needing to keep cool, but having the air conditioning on in April in the evening makes the diners cold. Find a balance please.
The food never fails to satisfy. Monica’s will always be my favorite restaurant!
