One of favourite restaurants! We make sure to go here every time we are in San Francisco. My wife and I absolutely love it here . We try something different each time we go and it’s always amazing. The service is geaat, the staff are all very nice and helpful and the food is amazing.
The food was absolutely authentic and fantastic but what really made the evening was the staff. From the host to the busboy, everyone was extremely genuine and thorough.
Bad service, no gluten free dishes but risotto which was swimming in cheese sauce. Worst meal I’ve had in San Francisco.
My favorite Italian restaurant in the city!
We really enjoyed the food and the attentive wait staff. We would certainly go there again when in San Francisco. It was a memorable part of our trip.
Amazing Italian food. The house gnocchi was especially delicious. Quaint restaurant in a nice neighborhood.
The service was great, so thoughtful and friendly. Very authentic food and the atmosphere is very sweet, and upbeat, almost feels like you are in someone's house. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Wasn't quite what we were expecting. The food was very good but the name threw us. It wasn't Italian. The cooks are Latino and it's their interpretation of Italian cooking with a Latino flair. However, we did enjoy the meal.
Always a great time and incredible service. My favorite Italian in the city
Excellent customer service by everyone in the restaurant.
Great neighbourhood restaurant.
Food not quite as good as we remembered, but worth a sentimental re-visit after all these years.
Caprese delicious. Waitress very friendly and attentive. Food was very satisfying. I had the saltimbocca and my wife had the pavarotti. Nice place to celebrate our anniversary.
Delicious food and wine, great atmosphere, a true gem in historic North Beach. I'm a local, live in the neighborhood, and this is one of my go-to spots for bringing out of town guests and family members. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed a special dinner at trattoria contadina with our 2kids and grandma. The service was outstanding and the Italian meal was delicious. The pasta dishes were particularly great. The Caesar salad had too much dressing and the bruschetta was not my favorite because the bread was not fresh (but that was their intended style). The caprese salad was very good.
Stay traditional and enjoy authentic Italian!!
We came here for our first night in San Francisco, what a great choice - highly recommend. The food we had was amazing, Buratta & Prosciutto, Spaghetti Meatballs, and Rigatoncelli, finished with some home made Tiramisu.
Our server, Gian was absolutely wonderful - super friendly and very attentive.
If I ever come back to San Fran, would very much come back!
Fabulous meal and even better service!!!
Restaurant was very good, quaint, tightly packed like in real Italy. Had a great meal, appetizer, a glass of wine and dessert for under 80 bucks. Fresh homemade pasta for sure. Was a pre show dinner and was great.
Food and service was excellent. The selection is fresh and original.
Lovely traditional Italian restaurant. Original authentic pasta.
Best Italian food in SF!
Wonderful service, excellent food. Trattoria Contadina never disappoints me. I brought friends (we are all from out of town) and they loved it too.
This beautiful restaurant was recmmended by a friend and decided to give it a try for girl's monthly get together. What a great place. The food was outstanding and the service was 100% on point with the waiter coming back a few times to ask is everything okay and our water being filled. I would recommend this place to all of my friends.....Best experience ever.....
Had a wonderful meal with my wife and teenage children. Food was delicious and service was great. Will definitely come here again!
Super delicious! Glad we found this gem!!
It was worth the train ride from San Jose to eat here. Family owned and family service. Second time there and we will take the train again. Cheers
One of the best low key Italian restaurants in San Francisco. Great value. Deserves to be tagged as authentic Italian cooking (owner is from Napoli). Ask for recommendations and house specials.
This is a small family run restaurant that serves up great food and hospitality. One of our favorites in San Francisco.
Great service and food on par or better than most Italian restaurants. We loved the burrata appetizer and our pasta dishes were amazing! We only wished they had warm sourdough bread but other than that it was a great birthday celebration.
Terrific dinner and service! Tiramisu was outstanding!
Excellent food, impeccable efficient service.
This place is such a gem of a place! It has the best Italian food anywhere! Their sauces are incredible and their gnocchi is always cooked to perfection (which aside from my house is hard to find). This is a place no matter how far we move we always come back! It is something we crave...especially the pepper appetizer! The cheese and sauce are out of this world! Been going there for 10+ years and will continue to go! They have NEVER disappointed..which is amazing!! If you haven’t gone, GO!!
Found this restaurant online on google for Best Italian Restaurants in San Francisco. Saw all the 5 STAR ratings (except for a about a third of the reviews stinkers) and drove an hour and a half with traffic. Got there early, before 5pm, and got right in. Really not a pleasant smiling greeting, got a table immediately and about 10 minutes later got water and another 10 minutes for a glass of wine and antipasta dish. The antipasta was very good and a good portion. The meal I had was a large portion of veal with capers and lemon sauce and the veal was like shoe leather. I had trouble chewing it, as did my wife. She ordered Sea Bass and it was so so, also a large portion. Didn't have any desert, because we were ready to just get gone as soon as possible. As far as ambiance; Not much. Just small inside and old.
Left with a bill including tip of $130 for the two of us. Appetizer, glass of wine and two places of inferior Italian foods. Not worth the money or the time to visit the city. If you are going to travel any distance to get to his place, think twice.
This was our third post-theater visit to Trattoria Contadina. The location is great, and the food is excellent.
Imaginative Italian food. Great wine. Perfect al dente.
A great neighborhood restaurant. Locally run and many long term employees.
Given its generally high rating, we went for dinner the other night and had a very disappointing meal. I asked the waiter about the popularity of the veal dish and he said it was a top dish and his very favorite, so we ordered it. The veal was very poor quality meat and not of a quality we could eat. There were also two slices of veal--each of which was to be prepared with a different sauce. The tomato sauce ran over both pieces and so they both tasted the same, which in addition to the poor quality of the veal were prepared with too much sage. We finished the spaghetti side, but left the veal. We told the waiter and he said he was sorry because he loved the dish. The tiramisu for desert also did not have the richness that a quality one would have. We are confused about the popularity of this restaurant in such a discerning locale as SF. Is it a tourist restaurant?
Loved this restaurant !! Everything was spectacular!!! Thank you!
The ice water at the table was excellent. Our server was excellent. The food was awful. The Corlesimo pasta, which the server said was the house specialty, was way over cooked and inedible. The special risotto was very poorly made and tasteless. It’s a cute place, but they can’t cook.
This place is a gem that we always visit when we're in town. We've been eating here for 20+ years and the food is always delicious. Thanks, Chef, for indulging me with gnocchi carbonara! Abolutely wonderful!
Nancy was a terrible server. We saw the runner 10 time for every one time we saw her. Great food. Great restaurant. We will go again, unless she’s the server.
