An informal Italian restaurant serving traditional favorites along with excitingly new dishes. Trattoria Bianca is a favorite of locals, business people and travelers in midtown.
Bright and mostly white, it is a sleek reinterpretation of Italian Art Deco along with the owner's collection vintage food and wine posters.
Bianca's menu ranges from a simple bowl of spaghetti carbonara to a Tuscan-style steak and a bottle of old Barolo. Featured dishes: shrimp scampi on soft polenta; frisee salad with fried oysters, poached egg, and pork belly; seafood fritto misto; salmon saltimbocca-style with sage and crispy pancetta; numerous pastas and superb pizzas; Chianti- braised short rib, and lamb shank in rich pan juices. Trattoria Bianca Ratings and Reviews
They were absolutely amazing! They delivered on their word. We were on tight time constraints and when we let the staff know they were friendlly and made sure we were out on time and did not sacrifice the quality of the experience. Food was amazing! Thank you!
Great location if you need to be near Penn Station or Macy's (35th & Eighth). Quietly elegant, nicely decorated. I liked the menu choices and enjoyed my chicken dish. My friend had the scallops which she liked too. The house wine was very. And the prices were affordable.
There are so few good places to eat near Penn Station, so this is a little gem! Make a reservation as it was busy on a Sunday night and walking may be an issue if you are crunched for time, like catching a train, for instance. Noise level was very high, but not distracting.
Had my first visit for a business lunch. Thought the prix fixe luncheon a very good value. The pizza was okay; not scrumptious but I definitely will return and will recommend this place. Found it bright and pleasant in an otherwise drab neighbourhood! The staff was excellent and not overbearing. The acoustics were good although toward the end of the lunch background music seemed to be pumping up in volume a bit and didn't seem necessary.
Went into City with group of 10 people Friday before NYE, made reservation morning of. Arrived at restaurant 20 minutes early. Table was ready. Waiter very attentive, we weren't in a rush and never felt rushed. Wonderful meal everyone in the group was very happy. Steaks great, meatballs great, chicken parm great. We will return.
Surprisingly good experience at this restaurant. The food was good and reasonably-priced, and our server was outstanding, friendly, and old-school. The room was a bit noisy and touristy, but that's to be expected in a hotel restaurant. We would return to Trattoria Bianca -- and it was a pleasure to have an excuse to visit the Deco landmark New Yorker Hotel, which is looking better than it has in years.
We at here before headed to the movie theater. Our service was friendly enough. However, the food was very bland - I had the bolognese and had to add a lot of salt and pepper. Further, there were flies all along the wall behind my husband. (Thank goodness I didn't see this until after the meal). So, though it is a convenient spot (right near MSG), it is not worth it.
We did the three course pre-fix for $24 pp with appetizer and a scoop of gelato. The food was wonderful but the service was non-existent. The server while nice was never around due to having to manage 7 tables at once without sufficient training. Everyone around was frustrated with not being able to get service even at a relaxed pace.
We needed a spot close to Penn Station which had an open reservation on short notice during the very busy holiday week. We were all pleasantly surprised by good service, a nicely located table with good acoustics for our conversation, and good food at a reasonable price. Each of us ordered the price fixe with a very good salad and nice gelato w/ fresh fruit included. Pasta, chicken, and snapper were all good. We also had a reasonably priced bottle of Malbec from Argentina which was ver6 good. Service was excellent.
We were a party of 6 visiting New York for Christmas and although the food was okay, it was nothing special. Presentation of food: appetizers were okay but a bit on the small side for the prices being charged. Main course presentation left a lot to be desired, Was a bit school canteen style slopped on the plate and quite unappetising looking when it was delivered to the table although there was plenty of it. Described as sliced turkey with all trimmings however resembled 'pulled pork' and all over the plate. Service was good to begin with however as the restaurant filled up this fell away and we were left unattended and waited a long time, once drinks had been ordered, for them to be delivered to the table, although we could see them waiting to be picked up from the bar. All in all not what we expected especially when the bill was 5c short of $500. Would not recommend and won't be using again if we are ever back in NYC.
The restaurant is cute, nice and clean with a retro decor. It has a kind of upscale diner look and feel to it. Perhaps it's the counter service that contributes to this look and the shape of the tables and booths. Unfortunately the food was not very good. My son ordered the "Italian style" shepherd's pie and he could barely eat it, because the meat was swimming in grease, the whole thing looked very unappetizing. I had the linguine with clams, which were edible but lacked much flavor in the sauce. My daughter had the pizza, which she said also was just okay, not that great. My husband had a fillet of some type of fish, and it was sitting on top of a huge mound of mashed potatoes! Fish on top of mashed potatoes? The combination did not go well, and the mashed potatoes detracted from the delicateness of the fish.
The waitress was very quiet at first and appeared to be not very personable, but later on she warmed up to us and chatted for a bit. She noticed that my son barely touched his dish and asked him if it was okay. He showed her how greasy the dish was and that it tasted bad. She asked if he wanted to order something else but by that time we had already finished eating and didn't want to start with ordering again, and we were pleasant to her in any case as the quality of the food is not in her control. To her credit, the waitress said she would let the chef know about it. When she brought us the check, she said she asked her manager, and they deducted the price of my son's dish from the bill. We thought that was a fair thing to do, and so we left feeling like the restaurant did the right thing. We wish though that the food had been delicious so we could feel like we had a great experience, but that was just not the case.
A wonderful dining experience! Reluctant to post this as I know in a year this place will be overrun. Oh well, that's what great food, excellent service and a great atmosphere begets. Dimitre is an A+ server. Please enjoy the Carbonara; one of the best I've ever had and I've tried many. Chicken Saltimbalca a must. Unique and delicious meatballs.
We dined here before attending a concert at Madison Square Garden. It worked out perfectly. It is very conveniently located across from Penn Station. We had an enjoyable dinner before heading across the street to see the show. Our entrees were delicious and our waiter very hardworking and accommodating (and he was very busy!).
