Trata Greek Taverna Ratings and Reviews
I ordered 1 glass of wine, and it showed up on the bill as $28.00 for one glass of white wine!
It was more expensive than the dinner! I was appalled and it ruined the evening.
Also very noisy -- tables too close together and open to the traffic outside, which
meant breathing exhaust fumes, along with the most expensive glass of wine.
Trata Greek Taverna is one of our favorite places, especially for celebrations and for taking out guests. It has wonderful ambience and they even play authentic Greek music. We loved the stuffed grape leaves as our flavorful appetizer. The Shrimp Saganaki and Scallops Saganaki had tangy tomatoes and were in a delicious tomato and oil base with fresh feta. We shared a tasty and generous Greek salad and a sweet Greek dessert with honey and layers of philo dough. Our waiter, Marco, was terrific as usual and is always entertaining and treats us like family.
Everything was fine about the restaurant until it came down to the check. Gratuities was included and since my waiter did not go above and beyond, I felt the 18% was doable. So when the waiter gave me my receipt to sign, I did not add another tip and he questioned me about it. I thought it was so unprofessional of him to do that. I told him if gratuities are included it's not necessary for me to tip again. He then said the gratuities was not included. I told him it was and he went back and looked over at the receipt and realized I was right and then he apologized. At that point, I just wanted to leave and will not visit this venue again.
Our team stopped off at Trata for the last day of our trip and we left feeling well served, with an amazing experience, and full stomachs. Their deals with the seafood platter may sound like they are up selling you, but without a doubt we left feeling ecstatic that Tommie had convinced us to go with the platter. Grouper, Salmon, Octopus, Scallops, and Shrimp... you can't go wrong.
I made reservations for five people. My date and I arrived on time, however the other three people were running a half hour late. The waiter was friendly and more than understanding, asked if we wanted to have a drink while waiting and also brought us water. The waiter was pleasant throughout the evening. The food was the best Greek food I've had in South Florida. This is in an upscale area so we expected the prices to be up there a little, and they were, but the food was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions, (It was my girlfriends Birthday) .
Food was good but there were issues. We ordered a full grilled grouper and asked that it be filleted. The waiter brought the food to the table and proceeded to work on the grouper on the table behind us removing the bones and skin. He presented the fish and it was all chopped and looked like it went through a lawn mower.
This is the second time we have enjoyed didn't here. We sat inside, although we made a reservation it was not busy. There is a small outdoor eating area but both times we have been there a table with cigar smokers made us choose an inside table. We enjoyed bit of our dinner selections, lamb kabob and an Gyro. The lamb was ordered medium, but it was done more than that. I should have ordered medium rare. We will be back one day.
Based on the recent reviews we read about the Trata Greek Taverna, my wife and I ordered the grilled octopus, gigantes (large beans in tomato sauce), roasted red peppers and the lamb chops and shared everything. We agreed that it was all excellent.
Trata Greek Taverna is our very favorite Greek restaurant. The staff is so welcoming and the service is impeccable. If you go be sure to get a dish that has tomatoes. They are magical. We shared some mussels as an appetizer that were seasoned perfectly. My shrimp saganaki was so flavorful and savory and had shrimp the size of a Buick. My husband's pasta bouillabaisse was so delicious that you needed a magnifying glass to find any leftovers. This is a great place to relax and be treated like royalty.
We have been dining at this restaurant for years. You could almost tolerate being treated like a tourist because the food was halfway decent. The waiter informed us that they had re-vamped the menu recently. He told us upfront that the falafel and the gyro were no good. Due to the fact that it's a tourist trap I could not tell whether he was being honest or whether he wanted us to order something more expensive. He was right, they were both awful. The restaurant has a Groupon out and they are shrinking the proportions and adding the tip on automatically before they even know you have a Groupon or not. Totally not worth the hassle of being treated like a tourist. There are other great restaurants in the Fort Lauderdale area that are much better.
We enjoyed the Taverna. Four of us sat on the patio which is quite noisy due to traffic on Las Loas, but it was a beautiful night for outdoor dining. We had smaller dishes sinc we had already had a late lunch but we enjoyed everything. The vegetable and chicken kabas were especially good. We went for dinner before a show at Parker Playhouse, only a mile away. We will try it again.
