Trapper's Chop House Ratings and Reviews
Waiter was very slow thru all aspects of service and although I love salt, my roast potatoes were so salty they were almost inedible. Lobster was also very salty; I don’t know if it was the butter or lobster. Ambience was great on Valentine’s Day, tho Open Table said no reservations until 8:45 pm but restaurant was half empty when we got there. Good drinks
This was our second trip to this restaurant and we were very disappointed.
First, that sat us by a window, and it was freezing, so we moved, which was not really an issue, but they really need to pull the shades to hold in the warmth.
Second, the service was very slow, especially from the bar, and it took quite a while to get our food. The restaurant was maybe 1/3 full at the time 6:45 pm.
Third, we rarely saw our server, but rather random people dropping things off, with no word. I will concede that the server was a nice lady. No one was rude.
Fourth, the drinks we received were watered down and contained very little alcohol.
Fifth, we were given the option of receiving our meat choices delivered raw and cooked at our table. When it arrived it, again delivered by a random person, it was on a plate arrangement with meats sitting on a hot stone, and no explanation given what to do. I burned my finger (nothing serious too be honest) on the hot stone on accident, which really killed the mood. The meat kept sticking to the stone and was difficult to sear and remove.
To sum up; dinner for two, including tip was $140, for that we received -- slow service from random people, weak mixed drinks, lack of communication regarding our meal, burned finger, and frustration while eating, and went on our merry trying to make the best of it.
I think there are probably other places like this we can try where the experience will be better.
I'm a local and clients of mine gave me a gift card. The waiter was really nice.
The food was disappointing, especially for the price. Both of our meals were luke warm when served. I would go to Del Friscos or Shanahans for steak before returning.
Overall is was disappointing, too bad I wanted it to be good.
Excellent experience due to the Romancing the stone steak! Service was a bit slow this time as we waited 10 minutes before waiter came to table. Would love to see the vegetable side increase in size as I have commented on in prior reviews. Nice ambiance with live music and a fireplace!
Nine of us went there for New Year's Eve. Most had never been there before. The food was delicious and we all had different dishes. The tuna and steaks were wonderful and the service was prompt and efficient. Nice fireplace in the dining room and warm and cozy atmosphere. We would definitely go back.
Trapper's is fantastic if you want to take your friend's and family. Romancing the stone is a must.
The experience of cooking your on food on a 500 degree stone is fun and your food is always the way you like it.
Give Trapper's a try. You won't be disappointed.
We recently ate at Trappers for the first time for our anniversary. I had steak oscar and my husband had lamp chops, foregoing the experience of cooking our steak at the table. ( I went OUT to eat to avoid having to cook:) The food was excellent! Our only disappointment was the wine selection by the glass. A great touch was a dessert on the house for our anniversary. We had the hot fudge ice cream brownie, which was out of this world! The fireplace on a cold evening and candles on all the tables made it a very pleasant evening.
Trapper's has always been a special place for us, but something has changed of late. Our latest visit was a special occasion and as such, I requested a table as far away from the entertainment as possible. We were seated midway in the restaurant and in front of the fireplace. I immediately asked for different seating and was told by the hostess that she would have to check with the manager. She returned and apologized, but said that was all she could do.
My wife and son alternated seating throughout the evening due to the heat from the fireplace. Someone nearby also complained about the heat and was told that it couldn't be turned down, that it had only two settings, on or off, and on was the setting for the evening.
My granddaughter had to come over and stand beside me so that we could have a conversation.
I noted when I made the reservation through Open Table that this was a special occasion, but that either wasn't conveyed to Trapper's, or it didn't matter to them. I think we will be looking elsewhere for our next night out.
We love Trapper's but this occasion was not our best experience there. It was our anniversary but no one made mention of it, nor was there anything special about our visit. The sourdough bread tasted a little stale and we had the general sense that some corners were being cut with what we had come to know as our typical experience. Hard to put a finger on it, exactly, but it just wasn't up to par.
Had the ambiance of a reception hall. Appetizer served cold, less than accommodating wait staff. The "quality" of the menu was superb but the quality of the delivered dinner did not meet expectations or even come close to justifying the much higher than average prices.
They have the menu of a 5 star restaurant but deliver 2 or 3 stars as far as service, atmosphere and food quality.
Would probably not return.
Our first visit, but not our last. We plan to check out the happy hour next. My tenderloin was superb: perfect in every dimension from medium rare to flavor. Wife's salmon had a special jalapeno sauce that was flavorful without the spicy punch. Nice portions, good value.
I have to say the quality of Trappers has gone down significantly. The first thing we noticed was the very strong smell of seafood as soon as we walked in. The service was very friendly but extremely slow. One member of our party did order scallops and we had to send them back because they were gritty and did not taste fresh. I had told the restaurant before we arrived and during our visit it was my son's birthday and they did nothing to recognize it at all. I would have to say I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's still quite pricey and there are much better places in the area for the price.
