Trapper's Chop House Ratings and Reviews
Trapper's has always been a special place for us, but something has changed of late. Our latest visit was a special occasion and as such, I requested a table as far away from the entertainment as possible. We were seated midway in the restaurant and in front of the fireplace. I immediately asked for different seating and was told by the hostess that she would have to check with the manager. She returned and apologized, but said that was all she could do.
My wife and son alternated seating throughout the evening due to the heat from the fireplace. Someone nearby also complained about the heat and was told that it couldn't be turned down, that it had only two settings, on or off, and on was the setting for the evening.
My granddaughter had to come over and stand beside me so that we could have a conversation.
I noted when I made the reservation through Open Table that this was a special occasion, but that either wasn't conveyed to Trapper's, or it didn't matter to them. I think we will be looking elsewhere for our next night out.
We love Trapper's but this occasion was not our best experience there. It was our anniversary but no one made mention of it, nor was there anything special about our visit. The sourdough bread tasted a little stale and we had the general sense that some corners were being cut with what we had come to know as our typical experience. Hard to put a finger on it, exactly, but it just wasn't up to par.
Had the ambiance of a reception hall. Appetizer served cold, less than accommodating wait staff. The "quality" of the menu was superb but the quality of the delivered dinner did not meet expectations or even come close to justifying the much higher than average prices.
They have the menu of a 5 star restaurant but deliver 2 or 3 stars as far as service, atmosphere and food quality.
Would probably not return.
Our first visit, but not our last. We plan to check out the happy hour next. My tenderloin was superb: perfect in every dimension from medium rare to flavor. Wife's salmon had a special jalapeno sauce that was flavorful without the spicy punch. Nice portions, good value.
I have to say the quality of Trappers has gone down significantly. The first thing we noticed was the very strong smell of seafood as soon as we walked in. The service was very friendly but extremely slow. One member of our party did order scallops and we had to send them back because they were gritty and did not taste fresh. I had told the restaurant before we arrived and during our visit it was my son's birthday and they did nothing to recognize it at all. I would have to say I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's still quite pricey and there are much better places in the area for the price.
The food was very good; however, the service was not. When our orders were taken, the two gentlemen in our party also ordered soup. Within a reasonable time the main course was served, but the soup was not. The server asked if they wanted the soup. Of course, they declined since the main course was being served. Our water glasses were never re-filled. When the bill was presented, the soup was charged. Thus, the server had to be called over to re-do the bill. So, no, I would not return, nor would I recommend Trapper's.
This was a birthday dinner for my wife. I had a $20 off coupon (coin). I gave the coin to our waiter mid-way thru the dinner. He totally forgot the credit with the original bill, then only credited $10 with the final bill, I did not want to ruin our evening with a third bill, I would suggest a review of grade school arithmetic for our waiter.
I have mixed feelings. Largely due to our favorite server being gone. And our server telling a friend to out butter on the hot stone...and the entire table looked like it was on fire. NOT a good suggestion. And lastly, my friend and I ordered the same dish, pasta with a vodka sauce and asked if it was overly spicy...and was told no. We were not able to eat it and it was supposed to have tuna in it, I found one piece. So MEH!
Had to ask for bread. He kept filling boys drink when he did not want it. The rice pelaf tasted like cleaning detergent. Raw shrimp. Spicy nachos. No one told my grandson it was spicy for children. Could have had a child's portion nacho. Our waiter was given a more than generous tip. The seater recognized the anniversary but the waiter did nothing.
This has been our "go to" spot for special occasions. This time, our third visit, did not disappoint. The service was excellent and the food was well prepared and tasty. The venison and elk on the heated volcanic stone were exceptional.
Great hidden spot in the Holiday Inn. I did not expect how good the food would be or how unique the way you eat and cook the would have been, but this place defied my expectations. A little pricey, not for what you get but for what you go in excpecting. Overall a very nice experience!
We dined here for my son's birthday & so glad we picked this spot. The food was absolutely
incredible. The boys had the Romancing the Stone.., you cook the meat to your liking on
a hot stone. It was soooo tender & full of great taste. It was an awesome evening. Service
was great & ambience with a view of the mountains was even better!!!!!!
The food was great, but the service is so slow. Many times we were wondering where our server was and I looked at the Yelp reviews after we went and saw that a lot of people had the same problem and the management doesn't seem to care. It's too bad because the food is fabulous. Maybe that why he thinks the service doesn't matter. :(
