In Brooklyn, Traif is one of the hottest restaurants drawing in the local community and guests from around the city. The concept at Traif is multiple course adventures or small plate meals. The tasting menu consists of 8 � 10 small courses designed for three or more people to share with the option for fewer courses in a �pick-and-choose� style.

Seating inside or on the patio is an excellent choice all year round with Traif�s outdoor heat lamps. Guests will find the lively and cozy atmosphere inviting before even tasting the food. Menu items include strawberry cinnamon glazed Berkshire baby back ribs, seared butterfish and salt pepper shrimp.

Traif scores well on all points except comfort. Unfortunately, it is tightly packed at peak times, like so many other NYC restaurants. And the crowded tight space gets LOUD, so loud that you frequently have to ask your companions to repeat themselves. Those are the negatives, and it is unfortunate that they have an impact on what otherwise is a terrific meal. We had the tasting menu, and each dish seemed better than the last. You don't get a lot with the tasting menu, but what you get is superb. One other downside is that they often bring two of the courses at the same time. This equates to a feeling of being rushed. But if you can overlook all that, you will certainly enjoy the food.

Food was great, but I think our server described the restaurant incorrectly. He said that the dishes were meant to be shared (I assume similar to tapas?). So we ordered 5 plates to share between the 2 of us. And holy, moly it was way too much food. We would have been fine ordering 1 thing per person.

So, they either need to NOT describe themselves as tapas. Or make the plates a bit smaller, while also dropping the price for each item

Our favorite menu items were the chilaquiles and the shrimp n' grits.
The baked pancake was good, but a bit dry. I would order extra syrup for the next time.
The baked chicken n' biscuit was also good, but I've had better versions at other restaurants.

Air Conditioning not working. Hot and muggy inside. Waiter forgot to place the order for 2 items. Items came out 45 minutes after initial items.

Traif is our fave! The food is phenomenal! Not enough space though. A little too noisy but we love this place! The menu is absolutely amazing and was created for the true foodies, as we are.

We have been here before for dinner which was great but this time it was for their new brunch. The Chefs choice brunch was amazing! From the pineapple with pomegranate sauce appetizer to the key lime pie with crushed pineapple and mascarpone we savored each bite. Don't miss this incredible treat!,,

We had the Chef Selection for four of us; it turns out to be a relative bargain because of the extra dishes and desserts. There were about a dozen courses, although only nine were promised. The wine list is excellent; don't hesitate to go for a less expensive bottle, because somebody knows what they are doing in choosing the wines. The food flavors are intense. The portions are small, but by the end your appetites are sated. Everything we had was just excellent, so it's hard to single anything in particular out. I do keep thinking about the ribs, and the scallops. They get a very trendy young crowd; reservations are a must, especially for the five or so tables in the garden room.

Outstanding and innovative food in a fun and casual atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The spicy tuna tartare over tempura eggplant is a must - out of this world.

We decided to take a chance and drive from the Bronx - after all with a name like "Traif" how could curiosity be controlled? We arrived for Sunday Brunch, and while it was just after 2 PM and most other diners had come and gone we received exceptional attention, help with the menu, and superb service. A table in the enclosed garden room was the perfect spot to balance the warmth of the day with the fine music choices playing in the main front room. We sampled 4 dishes and one dessert - each one superbly conceived and remarkably satisfying . The soft scrambled eggs with lobster was a standout, the baked Meunster and chorizo a remarkably simple but surprisingly complex taste treat. Egg, cheese, and pork belly sliders with sweet potato fries literally topped any other brunch item we've had in years. This is rich fare- so I'll be bringing at least two more people next time to prevent over- doing a good thing. Make no mistake, this was a dining experience highly worth the trip. While not big drinkers, I'd venture the Bloody Mary was a serious crafted item that was no accident. You could probably grow hair where none was before. Truly looking forward to returning with a small army of tasters.

This was our second visit to Traif. The dishes are beautifully prepared, incredibly delicious, and served by an amazing staff, most notably Claire and Max. Pork belly, scallops, chopped liver, key lime pie (made, we were told, by the chef's mom!)...totally amazing and more than memorable. This is a truly gifted and skilled kitchen.

The food and service was amazing. I went with a group of 5 people and our server suggested the chefs selection. The pacing, food selection and arrangement was perfect. Every dish was excellent. To add to that, the servers were extremely attentive and constantly filled my water cup and removed dishes immediately after we finished. I would definitely recommend this and eat at Traif again.

I've loved Traif ever since I first dined there four years ago. Unpretentious, out-of-this-world food done at an affordable price. The strawberry balsamic bbq ribs are not to be missed. Try to request the back area if you can.

Terrible service and disappointed with the food based on the reviews on Yelp.

Came here for dinner last weekend, the outside temperature was way over 90+. The waitstaff at first places us at a table at the back room squeezed into a small table, and the AC unit was struggling to letting out cool air. The back room space was an extension of the restaurant covered in clear plastic covering that reminded me of a run down restaurant in Asia. It was quite uncomfortable.

We asked to be moved into the main dining room where there were a few open tables, but the waitstaff refused to let our table of 5 to sit in the main dining room, claiming that the table was reserved, even though I also made a reservation! After requesting it for the 3rd time, we were finally seated in the main room.

Food was also disappointing. I used to come here a few years ago before many other new restaurants appear in the neighborhood. The food is now fairly average, nothing special given all the other better restaurants nearby

Fantastic food. They offer a series of small plates, each crafted with the care of a entrée coming from top-flight kitchen. Each small plate comes in succession after the other, Complementing the previous one. The Decour looks like it needs to be revamped. But otherwise it is an exceptional place for a meal. And I personally love the 80s music!

After all the rave reviews and personal recommendations I was really disappointed. Cliche ingredients (enough with the pork belly!) and the tempura shrimp was something out of an Applebees. Chicken liver mousse was lacking, peach salad with blue cheese was underwhelming. Save yourself the trip and try something else.

The food was pretty good but it was basically what you'd come to expect from so much of NYC dining: small plates of indeterminate size that focused largely on rich flavors and the same staples you get everywhere else. It was also extremely loud. The cocktails were very nice.

We made reservations and were promptly seated when we arrived. Recommend reservations on prime nights. Four of shared about 8-9 plates. Small portions but stuffed and satiated by the end of meal. Food was delicious! Waiter was attentive and helpful. He had our 2nd round of a signature cocktail "VIOLET BEAUREGARD" cocktail re-made, when it tasted very different than 1st round. We found out this was due to the blueberry infused buffalo trace bourbon running out, and a different batch was used on 2nd drink.

Overall great experience, one draw back was the volume. Very loud inside, to the point, where you have to struggle to hear the person sitting across the table.

Solution: Add sound damping to side walls and / or ceiling. Draping fabrics from ceiling will also absorb volume and help minimize reflections

I definitely recommend the chef's tasting. My favorite menu items were the strawberry glazed ribs, summer sushi, and doughnuts with bacon bits on top.

Amazing! My husband & I are tapas freaks, and this place is the best! Menu is SO flavorful & creative. They put things together I would never think of and make them so tasty. Service was attentive but not dotting. Great recommendations, too. We would highly recommend Traif--you will not be disappointed.

I came here for my birthday dinner with my family. We got the Chef's selection, and I highly recommend it. They allow you to make requests, which is nice. I also like that the food comes out on big sharing plates, instead of individual plates. Makes for a more intimate dinner. I wouldn't say the food was the most creative thing ever, but it was very solid.

My third and very possibly my last visit. The menu look great but some of the dishes were FLAT. I noticed that some of the portions were smaller then our last visits. The octopus was a miss, sweetbreads over cooked, seared foie gras could have done without (very small portion). Look I get it everyone has an off night but, not at $275.00 for two! Although I might as the service was excellent.

One of our favorite spots, we return again and again and repeatedly marvel at how much further our money goes at Traif and how much more elevated the meal than so many other places. The nuanced skill and delight of the food never disappoints; cocktails on point too.

Foodie friends in town for a wedding were perfectly pleased with Traif. As was I. Lovely time chatting with the bartender while waiting. Server was a little pushy, sounded a little impatient (even though there were only 2 other tables in the restaurant!). That was the only downside--oh and if you don't like smelling like the food you just ate, some of the cooking happens in the dining room so be warned. Food was rich, tasty and came out with great timing. Interesting cocktails for mixology enthusiasts. Will definitely go again.

The food is good, but the portions are very small. I think the value is good because you would be paying a significant premium for the same thing in Manhattan. Nonetheless, some of the portions are quite heavy. Highlight is the scallop.

The menu at Traif is incomparable, this is a dining experience and a truly innovative experience.
Amazingly- the cooking is coming from a tiny kitchen visible from the bar, unbelievable!!

From taking us early to honesty around how much to order, everything was amazing. Though slightly liberal on the salt, every bite was delicious. Will be back
