It’s just sad to see what happened to this place. We arrived for dinner at 6. This should be prime time on a Saturday but the place was empty. We figured that would be good and the food would come out faster. We were wrong. Dave’s oysters came out a little late but they were hot and cooked perfect and very flavorful. They did not have the Cesar salad out on time and it came out later with the entrees. The salad was made wrong and there were tomatoes on it. It looked like it was made with the ends if he lettuce only. Not a lot of green. I ordered the chicken Oscar and the chicken was definitely over cooked. It was sitting on a bed of cold angel hair pasta. The chicken had good flavor but the rest of it was horrible. My date ordered the shrimp and grits. This did come out warm but the grits were definitely out of a box or tasted like it. Overall I was really disappointed with the food. This place was a lot better years ago but ended up a quick place for the tourists who don’t know any better. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere.
MORE FOOD CHOICES NEEDED SUCH AS TURKEY BACON; LESS BREAD ITEMS; MORE SHRIMP IN THE SEAFOOD DISH.
Have been to the restaurant and number of times, each with enjoyable results. However, we were very disappointed this time and do not know if we will return. The restaurant was severely understaffed. Several of the entrée selections were empty and remained emptied during our dining experience. Our server tried as best she could but with the number of tables that she had to service again service was somewhat pool. Additionally, the eggs and waffles stations were severely understaffed. There was only one person there when in the past there has always been at least two. The piano player however was immensely enjoyable as he always is.
Food was down right terrible. I wish I wss exaggerating when I said it was the worst meal I've ever paid for. Our server Beth was attentive but could not save that food. My salmon was cooked fine, served over unseasoned spinach and glassy mash potatoes. My wife's chicken topped with crab had no flavor except for the crab and hollandaise. Her asparagus was cooked to hell and unseasoned, served ontop of a mountain of spaghetti, which was bland also. The chicken wasn't even seasoned. Had my wife and I been jerks I wouldn't want to pay for it, but we just wanted a nice meal on Valentine's and a night out as we have a kid and get them rarely. I won't waste another night out here. There literally was one other table sending back their food also. There was nobody in this place for the food to be so horrible. Go anywhere else!
Valentine Day Dinner:
Great Customer service and excellent happy hour prices for drinks. The food was just ok but the great service makes up fo it to me.
Anniversary and birthday
We came for a nice evening out over the New Years weekend, and had an enjoyable time. The service was excellent even with reduced staff. The menu served was reduced from that presented on the App, probably because it is the off season in Virginia Beach.
Food was horrible. The only good thing was that the manager felt bad and tried to have the cook redo some of the food (awful again) We were the only customers in the whole place so I am guessing since business is super slow, the quality of the food was not a priority, maybe they just make off of bar sales since it is in a hotel. (Which might not make sense but I am just thinking they dont care) They did not expect to have customers (im guessing) bc the whole place was dead so they did not have any sauces ready and the food took forever to come out. (Even though I made a reservation so they should have been prepared) *sigh* never again.
A+++ service as always.
This was by far the worst experience ever. The waiter reached over my plate so often he removed broccoli from my plate.
Taste of my crab cake was so awful i couldn't eat them. They weren't fresh. I will never go there again.
This restaurant is part of a hotel. It is extremely quiet but that is not necessarily a good thing. It seems rather stare at him. The view is fantastic looking out on the ocean. However the food is nominal and the menus extremely sparse.
This was our first and last visit to this restaurant. We had heard good things about it over the years and we were disappointed in every way. Server was inattentive and the wait for food was ridiculously long. Only 2 in our party and our appetizers were served 10 minutes apart. Restaurant not crowded, only about 6 tables were occupied.
Food good, not great. Desserts poor.
Near the end of our meal a party was seated next to us at a table that had dishes and glasses from the previous diner. This person had been gone for over 20 minutes.
Beautiful view of the Chesapeake Bay at dusk.
Prob not going back ever
outstanding Sunday brunch. Excellent food variety and quality. Service was just right attentive but not intrusive. Chef Margaret at the omelette station was spectacular!
Great service and food as always. View was worth it alone
Buffet style brunch was excellent. Tremendous variety of foods. Something for everyone. Doughnut machine great for the kids. Live music was appropriate and very well played; provided a calm soothing background to the meal.
Needed more wait staff to properly attend to diners.
Slowest service we have ever experienced, much less in a resort area. Menu was limited and the grits were as dry as if made in the microwave. Several in our party had the crabcake sandwich and enjoyed it. Waitor was apologetic and clearly overworked. Restaurant is located at the back of a large dated hotel and not the ambiance that is implied from the photos.
Very good dining experience. Excellent service
It was the celebration of my 63rd birthday.
We took my dad for brunch today to celebrate Father's Day. While the price was reasonable for the food that was offered, I was somewhat disappointed in the experience.
The restaurant was very warm; the air conditioner seemed to be having some difficulty. The Bloody Marys that my father and husband ordered were unlike any we had ever tasted, and my father was unable to drink his. The server kindly removed the charge for Dad's drink. The beef on the carving station was well-done and rather chewy. The service was spotty. We often had a difficult time getting our server's attention. I believe the restaurant was a little overwhelmed.
On the positive side, the she crab soup was delicious as was the eggs Benedict. One of my favorite memories of brunch here from years ago was the donut maker. I'm happy to report the donut maker is still part of the brunch. The donut and assorted toppings are just as delicious as I had remembered!
Horrible experience. Service took forever and food was not good. It was so loud on the outdoor patio, we couldn't hear each other talk.
Great food and service with one of the best views. Always a win!
Another job well done!
Monsters on the beach weekend, raining but always great food
The restaurant felt old and dated. The calamari was quite good as were the drinks, but the rest of our meal was boring.
Love the shea crab soup. Usually eat there anytime I'm in town. Nice view of the water
Great service as always
Favorite place to eat
Great food as always
We(7 people) went on the last night of Restaurant Week. I was surprised at how few people were there on Sunday evening. The food was wonderful and the portions were generous. Some restaurants go with smaller portions during Restaurant Week, but not Tradewinds. I usually get the she crab soup, but the seared tuna with the avocado tartare sounded so good I went with that instead. It was so delicious and refreshingly different.
We thought we were getting away to a nice, local secret. Not so. Once seated in a mostly empty restaurant, we waited, and waited for our server. The host eventually came over, and we asked for a wine list. Eventually the host came back, we asked about a couple of menu items (white bean meatballs and the hummus appetizer) his responses did little to encourage or promote the menu. Still no sign of the waiter. The host took our appetizer order, and the waitress finally showed up to take the wine order.
The wine arrived, and there was a yellow crystalline substance in the bottom of my wife's glass. They replaced the wine. The hummus arrived, with the "oven roasted olives" (all 5 of them).
I ordered the grouper special, might have actually been grouper, but looked like tilapia. Sauce was good. My wife ordered the beer-battered flounder, the frozen stuff at the grocery is better. Had to go in search of the malt vinegar, not really sure what the brown sugary stuff they brought out was.
Paid the check, then had to go find the waitress again to get my card back.
End result: slow, poor service; unenthusiastic staff; and marginal food.
We won't go back.
Our waiter was phenomenal!!! He made great food recommendations since the menu recently changed. Very attentive. Also, the food was great. We had the crab cakes, asparagus, macaroni & cheese with seared shrimp and scallops. Yummy!
The food was fantastic.....but the staff were OUTSTANDING! I'm returning again in a few weeks...
The food was Excellent. Lovely atmosphere. We had the Sunday Brunch and enjoyed it very much. Service was very good for a buffet setting.
Would pick some place instead.
Located in a dated and worn down "resort" (false advertising ). I would avoid overall.
This was the 2nd time I have been for Sunday brunch. My family went in honor of my mom who used to dine at Tradewinds each birthday until we lost her on Christmas Day 2 years ago. The food, the wait staff, and the environment were amazing. We'll definitely visit for Sunday brunch again.
Thanks for a great evening. The appetizers and entrees were amazing as usual! And service was top notch as to be expected from this beautiful restaurant with million dollar views
The music was a little too much for us, but we already planned to dine outside. We had such a great time earlier in the year, I decided to bring my fiancée back and proposed on the beach at sunset! Great weather and scenery.
Not up to what I think of as open table standards.
Not quite as we remembered it ; when it's not a grey day it has beautiful View at sunset. Food is okay but overpriced for what it is. The facility is tired and could use updated. Servers were attentive and pleasant.
