Trader Vic's - Emeryville Ratings and Reviews
Trader Vic’s is one of my favorite restaurants that we frequent 4+ times a year (too expensive so we go for special occasions) and it’s always been exceptional. However our last visit was very disappointing. Drinks - I’ve never had cocktails anywhere with so much ice. When the server brought our drinks the ice was higher than the liquid. For $12 + for a cocktail, there was wayyy too much ice and barely any kick. I’ve never had a bad drink at TV’s until this visit. Some of the food was very disappointing too. The crab artichoke dip has changed and it’s now a very small portion for a lot of $$$. Our favorite pork sliders were almost all bun & very little meat. We had to ask for the crackers and peanut dip which are usually always on the table & we he had to ask several times for refills. The dinner portions seemed smaller too. I always get the Mahi Mahi & it was a lot smaller than before. Another surprise was how bad our waitress was. She kept forgetting when we asked for things which was extremely annoying & a table of 4 had to share ONE MENU, they were short menus!!! We spent almost $300 and all of us were disappointed. We will be back & we really hope this was just a fluke bad experience.
we made a reservation and upon arrival to the restaurant , we were told we would have to give up our table at a certain time----not the best way to start the occasion.
we were attended to promptly for drinks and appetizers, and they arrived very quickly. dinner was another story-we waited nearly an hour from our appetizer to our dinner. when they food did arrive, it seemed as tho it had been sitting for a bit, as it was lukewarm at best. filets were overcooked, sides were nearly cold. service staff was very nice but not very attentive. restaurant was not crowded so uncertain what the reason. overall not a great experience for the price. i won't go again, nor will i recommend.
A favorite restaurant of ours. Dropped by to leave a gift for the wonderful hostess Claudette who has retired (sadly we both had to work on the days she would be there). Claudette was definitely a reason why we visited Trader Vic's...but we definitely will be visiting often. Great staff, food and setting.
It was really fun to be back after many years but I was really disappointed that our small group of friends went to spend some time together, purposefully chose a place with a generally quieter dining room, and got there to find that they had rented out the entire dining area to a private party and we were assigned seating in the bar/lounge which became louder and louder with holiday celebrants. I would have suggested that we leave but we had no other reservations and there is nothing nearby. I think restaurants should contact folks and inform them if the restaurant experience is going to be impacted by a large party occupation of dining room, etc where diners would normally expect to be seated.
Initially they put 3 people at a table for two and I had to complain to the manager. Then we were sitted in the bar area which was too loud to hear the person across the table.
Eventually the manager put us at a great table in the dining room, but the evening started off terribly.
So glad that Trader Vic’s is still around I’ve been hearing about since I was a little kid but just went there for the first time with a date. Fun atmosphere. Love the drinks. Food was awesome. The servings are substantial. If you like lamb, I would highly recommend the rack of lamb. And the mushroom appetizer is amazing.
We ordered Tidbits upon arrival and drink orders were taken in 2 shifts as 1 couple arrived about 15 minutes late. Those orders were delivered promptly. We ordered our entrees, and because we hadn't been together for awhile, didn't realize that 45 minutes had passed and our food had not arrived. We feel quite sure that our food order got lost in the midday shuffle. There was no particular apology for the long delay, although the staff was pleasant enough. We left minimal tip as the service was close to non-existent. We are old Cosmo Place diners and have been to the Emeryville location occasionally during the many years since it returned to the East Bay.
I love the consistent menu, the Tandoori oven and the familiarity of the restaurant and am very disappointed that our recent visit was not as expected.
waited 1 hour for food---salads were horrible, not dressed properly-- bunch of shrimp unattractively placed and had glassy look, like from freezer----waited so long, had no time for coffee. understaffed and no kitchen talent. too bad for a place everyone likes to come
Sea bass was great, New York steak yummy but filet & coconut shrimp disappointing. It took about 35 minutes between appetizer to main dish. No bread or butter, so we were hungry & just waiting for main entree. Desserts were ok, but for the price point, there are other restaurants I would rather go to.
We love Trader Vic's! My husband and I throw a tiki party each year so are big into tiki culture. We chose this for our mutual birthday restaurant and had so much fun. There was live music, delicious food, and we LOVED the Maitai's. If you want a mini vacation to the tropics, make a resi for a fun dinner with creative and authentic decor and yummy drinks!
Been dining at Trader Vic's since it was Hinky Dinks on San Pablo Avenue in the 1960's....
Cosmo Place and Emeryville...so I have been a big fan for a long, long time.
Two years ago had Thanksgiving here at they ran out of food by 5 PM...and have been hesitant to return.
The food just doesn't warrant the price.
Cosmo tidbits for $26 ? Cheese Bings for $11 ? I had the salmon and it was OK. My
wife got indigestion from the curry.... the bill for 4 adults was over $300 and I don't
All things must change...sorry to see Trader's not change for the better...
