Review for Trader Vics in the Hilton Atlanta. In all honesty, this ranks as one of the worst dining experiences of my life! I made this reservation for my Board of Directors, who were having their mid-year meeting at a nearby hotel, so it was an easy evening walk over to the restaurant and back. Our reservation was for 6:30, and we arrived a bit early. There were a total of nine of us and we were ushered to the back of the restaurant to a large table. First impression of the restaurant was that it was rather dated & dingy and not particular clean. Once our server greeted us, she took drink orders. Five people decided to order a bottle of red wine and the rest order individuals cocktails. It took a while for the drinks to arrive. The server poured a tasting of the wine to a member of our party who instantly told her that the wine had gone bad - strong vinegar smell and taste. But instead of suggesting a new bottle, she continued to pour four more glasses of the wine, which ended up sitting on the table throughout dinner until I asked that they be removed. We ordered appetizers which came fairly quickly and were ok. We ordered entrees at around 7:10 pm, but still had not food at 8:15 pm. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that she was "upstairs in her office, so someone would have to go an get her." The manager came to our table at around 8:25 pm, where I explained that we have been waiting over an hour for our food. She said that the kitchen was busy and what would we like her to do about it. We suggested that she try to improve the experience for the next customers. Our food arrive at about 8:30, with most of it cold and inedible. One entree was so salty that it was completely inedible, and two of us order bacon-wrapped scallops that were so severely overcooked that you could have used them as bouncy balls. Our bill was over $300, but the Manager did comp the cocktails before the dinner (a total of 4 mai tais). I DO NOT recommend this establishment!

Trader Vic’s is one of the last bastions of the mid-century tiki phenomenon. Although the Atlanta location is an admittedly late addition to the tiki canon, it now stands as an extremely well maintained example of the original tiki experience. While there has been some revivalism in the form of new bars and restaurants (e.g. Atlanta’s S.O.S.), they too often suffer from the influence of modern aesthetic sensibilities, trying to make “Tiki 2.0”, rather than truly embracing the historical. Trader Vic’s retains the classic appeal of something that is slightly kitschy, but still somehow sophisticated.

Trader Vicks was a unique treat for an out-of-towner (me) and well worth the drive across town for an Atlantan (my niece). We plan to return when I'm back in Atlanta.

Mai Tais were definitely the best part. Service was extremely slow and food was cold when it arrived. Overpriced. But the decor is fun and the noise level is good, as its quiet enough to actually be able to talk.

This place has been a staple of Atlanta food culture for decades - and rightfully so! Despite being in a hotel, and despite being in a basement, the quality and ambiance are consistently well done.

The bar has one of the broadest collections of Polynesian drinks in town. While most are rum-based and sweeter in flavor, several are more savory and bourbon/whisky based too. When with a date or larger party of friends, you should definitely try one of the large community drinks that serves 2-4 people!

One of the real treats of this restaurant, though, are the steaks. In a city full of so-called steakhouses, Trader Vic's has some of the best meat in town. The key is their 2,000 year old Chinese ovens that are basically large meat smokers. When you order a steak, the beef is suspended in the middle of it and the smoke cooks it. The result is a smoky, flavorful, perfectly cooked, not over-dried steak.

Unfortunately, the service this visit was a bit weaker than I've had in the past. Our woman was hard to understand (strong Asian accent), and was initially pushy but then seemed to forget about us until we needed the check. I'm hoping this is just an off night, because this restaurant really is an Atlanta gem.

Overall, this is one of the most unique restaurants in town, with among the best steaks in town too. It's definitely worth a try!

Very slow dinner, took 2.5 hours. Only had 1 round of drinks did not want to ask for more due to time. Asked for coffee with dessert, server rolled her eyes when I confirmed it was regular coffee, she said no I brought all decaf... did not ask us our preference. She charged us for a dessert we did it receive, had to ask her to remove it. Not sure I would recommend for a group.

This Atlanta mainstay brings out the Polynesian in its drinks and its food. More island based than Asian, Trader Vic's takes the Poly vibe to 11 with its decor, drink, and food presentation. My wife loved her filet mignon, while I enjoyed my wok-fried seafood. The drinks are as creative as they taste, as well.

Only drawback? The desserts. You may find tastier dessert options in the Hilton Lobby one floor up. Still, Trader Vic's is a great place for cocktails and island-themed food. Definitely worth one trip when you're in Downtown Atlanta, especially during Dragon Con.

Trader Vic's is definitely an experience. I love their food the orange glazed pork tenderloin and the imperial beef, DELICIOUS! They also make their own peanut butter that is served as an appetizer with crackers and it is lovely. The after dinner coffee, I don't know the brand but it was a perfect ender to the meal, smooth and delicious. The service is usually top notch as well, very prompt. I have only had one experience where it was lacking but in their defense DragonCon was happening. The tiki/Polynesian decor is my absolute favorite, love!

I came for the drinks and to try the food. Thankfully both of those were fantastics. Our waitress however acted like she dod not want to be there, often would not stop by our table and only did once we went to find her. We had to order two rounds of drinks to ensure that she didnt come back.

Our annual DragonCon kick-off is always at Trader Vic's! We have such a great time trying the fun rum creations (although we were seriously disappointed that the drink menu had been severely abbreviated for DragonCon this year). Our server was the same one we had for DragonCon 2016, which was fun (she remembered us!). We never plan to eat at Trader Vic's, but I did try the spare ribs appetizer this year and it was delightful.

Worst experience EVER! We sat and were immediately given water. I noticed that a table in the same room with us started sitting and they were beyond loud, vulgar, obscene and belligerent. F this & F that, talking...no screaming about sex and b@&ches. We asked to move as did another table near them/us. Even after w had been moved to another room, they were all we could hear. Other tables asked to be moved as well. When I inquired as to why the manager had not done something, the server informed me that she (the manager) had not even gone over there to try and address the problem. We had now been there for around 45 mins and had ordered the tidbit appetizer, which still ha not come, but the couple next t us who had sat 20 mins after us and order 30 mins after us, received theirs!? When we ordered, our food finally came 1 hour later and by that time, we were so fed up that we asked for togo boxes. Knowing how unhappy we were, knowing that we had been there for almost 2 hours and had to ask for our food to go, the manager STILL did not come to our table. The only time we saw anything f her was as we were leaving (obviously unhappy) as she poked her head out of a side computer station and said 'Thanks'..........I wrote an email to corporate and have heard nothing back. So clearly no one cares how bad this experience was. Absolutely the worst night ever. We will never be back. Pretty sure we can find somewhere else to pay 25.00 + for Kung Pao chicken. SMH

Having been to Trader Vic's a few times in the past, I'm always happy with the meals in general. The food is good for the price, and the atmosphere is pleasant, in a surprising island-style setting.

Unfortunately, the service is typically incredibly slow. Even more so in this case. It took 20min before the first waiter attended our table, and two and a half hours for a simple meal to be completed. Dealing with this type of frustration means I will most likely not return anytime soon.

We are big tiki fans so going to one of the last remaining Trader Vic's in the US is a must do in Atlanta. This was our second time visit although the first sitting in the dining room to have a full meal. Drinks of course are top notch for tiki authenticity. We had the fried rice and the bacon wrapped scallops. Both entrees were excellent. We had very attentive service. The only minor downside was that they were out of Menehune figures so my husband couldn't add that to his tiki glass & accessory collection.

The service was impeccable! The Mai Tais we're phenomenal, of course they invited them. It was our 20th anniversary which I mentioned when making the reservation, and everyone wished us a happy anniversary & they gave us a beautiful slice of cake with Happy Anniversary written on the plate. I had the volcano shrimp and my husband had the macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi. Both dishes were amazing. Just a wonderful experience, I am so glad we choose to spend our anniversary there.

The high lights were the fancy, fruity cocktails, the excellent service (kudos to our waiter Ki), and the creative menu. Everything was tasty and very well presented. We loved the funky vintage feel of the place, it is one of the last Tiki bars around.

The only negative is that the food prices are just a bit high.
