About Trademark Drink + Eat
Trademark is the neighborhood bar for a remarkable neighborhood. With a nod to our close friends at the U.S. Patent and Trade Office, we take our inspiration from the innovators whose once daring ideas set the standard.
Then knowing exactly what the standard is, Trademark enjoys nothing better than tweaking it. Someone else had the brilliant idea to combine pork with beans, macaroni with cheese and gin with vermouth. We simply came up with a way to make you think you’re tasting them for the first time.
The mixologists behind our bar program understand that some drinks are made to forget a hard day, others to foster inspiration, and still others to toast old friends and instant acquaintances. We also noticed that good things happen when the atmosphere is properly stimulating. You’ll find the mood at Trademark as comfortable as it is inventive.

Trademark Drink + Eat Ratings and Reviews
Inventive cocktails, fun bar scene.
Food is ambitious, needs work.
Crab and lobster bisque - tasty, too much thickener.
Burger was good, nothing notable.
Chilean Sea Bass- dry and disappointing. Accompanying pasta was not flavorful.
Beer can chicken- swimming in boring brown gravy.
Highlight: Pear in pistachio cream. The best thing we had.
Best bet: a cocktail and a dessert!
This was by far the worst dining experiences I had. My wife and I made a reservation for 8:15. We arrived minutes before and was seated immediately. 10 minutes after being there no one had taken our drink order or came to our table at all. In the same section, two tables down the staff began pushing tables together for a large party and then they were seated. The waiter approached them and took their drink orders immediately. My wife and I noticed this and thought that this bet not be our waiter and went on with our conversation. Shortly after that, the waiter brought drinks to the other party and then made hi way over to us and asked were we ready to order. We told him no and proceeded to leave. As were leaving, the maitre'd assked were we helped and we told him the situation and he asked if management could do something for us and we told him no thanks.
We love enjoy coming to Trademark! Great American comfort foods such as pork chops, burgers, and mac and cheese.
CANDIED BACON (appetizer) is a must try. Sweet and savory
I had the Fish and Chips. I was expecting the usual small pieces of fried fish and fries, but Trademark puts their spin on it. They fry a lightly battered Haddock (one large piece) and serve it with steak fries. Tasty!
CON - Trademark is a very vibrant place (especially if you are looking for a bar scene), however, not sure if it the design of the room, but sounds carries -- A LOT. It can get loud at times when you having dinner. I'm okay with it, but if you are one looking for a quiet evening out, you may not be pleased.
I visited this restaurant during Alexandria Restaurant Week. The selections offered were top notch. I had the spring salad, seafood fettuccine and summer pudding. In addition, we ordered their much talked about seafood mac and cheese. All of the dishes were delicious. Our server was professional and courteous. My overall experience was wonderful. I will be back again.
What a dissapointment this place was. Started off great with the maitre d, then completely went downhill. Our waiter was so inattentive and never came to ask us how our meal was or to refill our drinks. We sat there waiting for 25 minutes to get the bill while we watched him go talk with other tables and check on them but never coming back to ours. We left feeling so frustrated and upset that we spent that amount of money for a TERRIBLE experience!
We had a great time dining at Trademark for Alexandria Restaurant Week. We enjoyed the vibrant bar scene and plenty of TV for those sport fans. Delicious food and great service. Only thing I would comment on is the noise level. Somehow the design of the place traps the voices in the restaurant especially if there is a large group. Now, it was a wedding party, so I can't really blame the restaurant (because weddings are suppose to be fun and festive), but the sound did travel and was noisy from time to time. Otherwise, great experience overall!
My wife and I loved this place. First time visitors but when in Alexandria, we will be back. Upon our arrival for our 8:30 reservation we were seated at a table held for us next to the window with a cool view of the neighborhood. We really liked the menu because it was concise and had winning starters (bacon candy!), calamari, plus others that sounded great, and interesting entrees. Excellent beers on tap, many from Virginia. The wine list was not overwhelming and had clear simple choices. We each had the burger and it was a top tier burger for us... easily one of the best we've ever had. Excellent seasoning, cooked just the way each of us ordered it...the flavor of the beef was outstanding. on a great bun. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive. We met Scott the GM on the way out and told him how awesome his place was. He was a wonderful person to talk to and we could see why the place is so cool and well run. Go there!
Trademark Drink & Eat is decorated with images of Thomas Edison, Eli Whitney and other famous inventors. There is a corner designed with all types of books and other decor that just seems to work with the 'trademark' theme. Unfortunately the decor stops at that corner.
At Trademark there is a lively vibe during its happy hour which has gained popularity mainly in part to the cocktails crafted by Christopher Bassett. The drink menu while creative, also touches on many classics such as the Pisco Punch. There are dozens of drafts and wines that are sold by the glass.
With palatable pub food coming from the kitchen titillating your tastebuds, there is no shortage of crowd pleasers. Start the happy hour team off with pretzel bites or spinach and artichoke dip, or maybe a basket of sweet potato fries. The Eastern Shore (mac and cheese with crab and lobster) or the Cuban (mac and cheese stuffed with ham and topped with fried pickles), both dining favorites, are sure to bring a warm smile to anyone's face. Chilly days are made warmer by skillets of velvety mac and cheese stuffed with ham and topped with deep-fried pickles (the Cuban) or filled with crab and lobster (the Eastern Shore). There are always specials being etched into the chalkboard behind the bar so keep your eyes open. Specials are even better when the Capitals are winning!
This is our second time going and we loved everything we had the Fish and Chips and the Beer can Chicken. The fish was a rather large piece and the batter was nice and crispy and not greasy. Thechicken was wonderful, nice and moist with the skin nice and crispy around the edges, even with a the wonderful sauce that was on it. I substituted the Polenta with the Charred Kale and that had a wonderful taste also. I just wish they would hurry up and put out the Spring menu.
My wife and I live a few blocks from Trademark and dine here occasionally. We enjoy the food, service, and ambiance. Our food came prepared as requested and I also had two glasses of Happy Hour Cabernet. It's actually quite good and very reasonably priced. I've recommended Trademark to others and will continue to do so.
The restaurant was very nice, a little dark though, with a great bar area. We ordered the Mussles and Pretzel Bites for appetizers, which we all enjoyed. The Mussels wer very big with great Flavor. We also had the Pork Chop with was just "good", the "make it your way" Burger was juicy and thick and cooked perfectly. The fries that came with it were great. But the winner was the Steak and Fries. That, was wonderful. For drinks we had the Trademark Old Fashion, very strong but a bit to sweet for me ,the Fire in the Rye which our friend enjoyed and I also had a Pisco Sour. It was good but the flavor was a little "thin". Oh, and also a bottle of Sephina Malbec. Also enjoyable. Overall, we really enjoyed the meal. Our waiter was Denis and he was wonderful. After refusing dessert, Denis comes out with a complementary dessert. Wonderful touch. We look forward to the Spring Menu.
While the service and atmosphere were lovely for an 11am Sunday brunch, the food was lacking. A delicious sounding menu with more unique options than the usual brunch spot is what made me want to try Trademark. However, the burger I ordered had nothing holding it together, my friend's poached eggs in the shrimp 'n grits dish were overcooked, and my other friend's omelette was good, but nothing special. The food wasn't bad, per se, but simply a bit disappointing. Just a little more effort could make it delicious. I'm willing to give it another try because of the location and nice staff attention, I just hope the food is better the next time around.
I went with 5 others to celebrate a birthday and take advantage of the restaurant week menu. There was a good selection of dishes for each course. Everything I ordered was delicious, well-portioned, and not too salty. Wonderful! Also, the dessert choices came in cute chemistry-like, glass, beakers. What a great concept!
Our 24-year-old daughter is a vegetarian and was visiting for several weeks from out of town. We had gone to Trademark a couple of weeks ago and our daughter got the pumpkin ravioli. She loved it so much we went back to Trademark again before she left town. She got the pumpkin ravioli, my wife got a burger, and I got the New York Strip steak. (Also, don't miss out on the pretzel bites appetizer -- they're really good and the dipping sauces are outstanding.) The ravioli was once again excellent, my steak was cooked a perfect medium rare as requested, but my wife's medium well burger was pretty red inside. It was under-cooked, which is the reason for the four-star rating for this visit instead of five-star. But, we've now eaten at Trademark several times and the food is consistently good overall and our regular server is excellent. When I was looking at the wine list, she recommended the happy hour Cabernet. It was actually quite good and at $5/glass, not a bad deal at all. It was packed on a Friday night, but there was a good energy level and we liked it. We'll keep coming back.
My spouse didn't want turkey so 3 hours before we were scheduled to eat, I booked this restaurant after calling to see if they offered an a la carte menu on Thanksgiving. We were immediately greeted by name upon arrival and seated at the window. The waiter was fantastic; attentive and fast. I ordered the turkey dinner; it was really good; I even liked the shaved Brussels sprouts! My spouse had a rib eye that was perfectly cooked and smelled great. I would definitely eat here again if I'm ever in Alexandria--the dining room is gorgeous and the menu had several dishes that sound really good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice place to eat.
I thought it was going to be more of a nice restaurant to have Thanksgiving dinner with my son. It was a bar with some tables...I kept thinking where is the dining room? The ambiance was not classy dinner but modern and cool. We tried to find some place else to have dinner but it was Thanksgiving and not too much was available.
There were lots of tables available and we were shown to a table by the window next to the service stand. I asked for a different table and was accommodated. The menu was limited. My steak was flavorful but had lots of gristle in it and it was undercooked. The server was fine. The food was ok but expensive. I would not go back...
My sister and I found Trademark on the list for Alexandria Restaurant week. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Virgina our server was extremely informative, attentive and pleasant. Also Charlie the manager on duty was extremely attentive and pleasant. Of course I can't forget about the chef who did his thing in the Kitchen! Although many of the dishes on the restaurant week menu are not on the regular menu I am still interested in coming back and trying some of the other dishes. I'm looking forward to trying the Rhubarb gin fizz, there are few places that have slow gin(one of my favs) and after having the Carlyle Sour I know I won't be disappointed! I have already recommended Trademark to my friends and can't wait to return
Inside the Westin Hotel. Limited menu, but very good. Went for lunch. Salads and sandwiches were quite tasty. Service was great. If you need a quiet space to talk just note that on your reservation or ask for a table in the room with the books. No TVs in that area and it is away from the bar. No trouble at all holding a conversation in there. Federal court is directly across the street so location is uber convenient.
The food was pretty good, but not perfect. We liked the atmosphere-- pub feel, but spacious. For the first course I got a caesar salad (not much flavor from the dressing, but unique since it had little crab cakes in place of croutons) and my husband got the heirloom tomato salad (great flavor with the bleu cheese). For the second course my husband got the seafood paella (great flavors from all the seafood; rice was a little overdone) and I got the steak and fries. I ordered my steak medium, but when it arrived, no pink. For dessert, my skillet cookie was overcooked-- I could barely scoop the cookie out because it was so hard. Despite the imperfections, we will be back. Service from our waitress was outstanding.
The menu is limited but I had a chicken sandwich and it was very good. It is very noisy and I had difficulty communicating with my lunch companion. I find the big screen TV to be a distraction. Good food but not a place to have a business lunch or if you are seeking a little midday peace and quiet.
My husband and I went to Trademark for the first time for a casual date. We really liked the decor and colors. My drink was delicious-a rum, strawberry combination-yummy. My husband really liked his drink as well. I got the seafood mac and cheese which wasn't anything amazing, but it was fine. My husband got the pork chops which he quite enjoyed. I won't rush back there, but if we're in the area I wouldn't hesitate to stop in. It looked fun for happy hour!
I dined for lunch during the week with friends. I ordered the cheesesteak. The bread was fine, but the chopped steak paled in comparison to the portions of my friends' burger. My side of coleslaw tasted like cabbage (and broccoli?) blanched in salt water, as it lacked any creaminess or vinegary bite. My friends were content with their burgers, though. Service was attentive.
i have never submitted a review and frequently dine out. This place was a terrible experience. the noise level and acoustics were NOT acceptable, and quite frankly it was much more like a bar than a restaurant. now i know why so many were dining alone...you cannot have a conversation at the table with the NOISE level and acoustics. the waiter apologized, but that was insufficient. i would NEVER return and would NEVER recommend this place for dining. it is a bar. the placement of the tables in the bar is poor design, and quite frankly someone in management should apologize to me for the misleading advertising, and the incredibly poor experience. we could NOT enjoy the food because of the ridiculously and unacceptably LOUD noise level
