Good atmosphere, there is a part with a bar and a few tables, you are among people but not too crowded, and a restaurant part (with the same menu), which is spacious, high class. The ambience is modern, cool.
Reservation for Thanksgiving dinner at 730. At 750 we were told they were breaking down the buffet at 8PM. It was completely cleaned up by 830. When I complained about it, the manager gave me attitude.
We appreciate your feedback, Ericka. We apologize for your experience dining with us and will address your comments with our team. Thank you for the review!
Thanksgiving dinner some years ago was not a buffet, and this buffet was no bargain, and the ambience was really cold and weird. Not sure I should trash the place because of what they chose to do for Thanksgiving, but it was they did for Thanksgiving. And not adequate.
We appreciate the honest feedback, kudzu. We apologize for your experience dining with us on Thanksgiving and are disappointed to hear you didn't enjoy your time. We will be addressing your comments with our team. Thank you for the review!
A nice convenient venue for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We appreciate the review, Trebla10, and hope to see you again soon!
We arrived at Trace, hopeful for a great meal...after being told 3x by our valet that we had a 2-hour limit or would be charged, we hurried to the dining room and made our way to the maitre'd stand. And waited. We watched a bartender (who walked by us twice) drag a stool from the dining room into the bar--it was so loud and rude and disruptive. We waited 15 minutes to be noted...that's not okay. We were shown to a four top...there were going to be 5 adults. When asked, I replied "No, this won't work." We returned to the entry area and waited--our server quickly wiped two tables down and seated us...it wasn't going to be our night at Trace. Our server was a bit overwhelmed: she was expediting, running food, busing, serving, wiping, and more. A manager (?) was on hand helping reset the dining room, but there was more than ample help in the kitchen and bar--why didn't our server have the same support. The charcuterie was dropped, and nothing explained...we still have no idea what was in the ramekin? My beef skewer was dry; the steaks were dropped to the wrong guest--the one who wanted medium rare got medium well and vice-versa...both thought the steaks were cooked wrong until it was too late. The shrimp/crab bisque was excellent. We were given some delectable treats for the birthday guest--that was a nice gesture. Again, some wonderful flavors--the drinks were delicious--and there were ups, but with a keen eye on the 2-hour limit, we had to leave...nothing would have merited an additional $16.00 of mediocrity. Lots of choices in Seattle--we won't include Trace on that list.
Thank you for the review, David. We always appreciate feedback and apologize for your poor experience dining with us. We definitely understand your frustration and are very disappointed to hear about the service you received. We will address these issues directly with our team. Please feel free to reach out anytime in the future and we would love to provide an improved experience. Thank you again for your feedback and time.
Food was cold, service was slow and noise level way too loud
We appreciate your feedback, CraigH! We will pass these comments along to our team and address these issues directly.
I planned this dinner for my wife's Bday Staycation celebration. I reserved a table for two using the Open Table app shortly after booking our stay at the W.
With such a comfy room, our dinner reservation gave us the motivation to leave it. We wanted to experience their restaurant and not leave it to the room service version. We had some drinks in "the living room" at Trace, where we also shared great conversation. The atmosphere was energetic without being overly obnoxious. Imagine a night club where you can actually talk. I didn't get a chance to catch their live music so I think I will come back for on a night out one of these days.
When our table was ready, we moved to the actual dining area. I treated my wife to their well-seasoned 16-ounce steak with a soy crimini reduction. I got this creative version of the Loco Moco, using a cheese risotto for the rice instead of steamed rice. I want to say that it tasted like a cheeseburger if it were made into a Loco Moco. We were impressed by how excellently the food was made but since we didn't have enough room for dessert, we returned to the bar the next day to try out the chef's take on Turon. He calls it "Banana spring roll" but if you are where I from, you know that it is a decked out Turon. Though it is much pricier than the street food version, I indulged in this fancy version with ice cream and rum caramel sauce.
We left Trace wanting to try more of their menu.
Thank you for the great review, slvnthecreative! We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed your time at both Trace and the W and that you enjoyed chef's food as well as the Living Room scene. We hope to see you again soon and hope your wife had a great birthday staycation!
W Hotel never disappoint! Veggie burger = perfect, banana caramel = on point; total bill with tip was just right because we didn't have to order drinks.
Thanks for the great review, ustreat! We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed the veggie burger and banana caramel. We hope to see you again soon!
Nice wait staff.
Mediocre food. Tots just frozen food - nothing fancy.
Music was a little loud and gloomy.
The restaurant was very nice. Fun atmosphere but it was very loud. We made it for happy hour so they had cheap drink and starters. Overall was great.
We appreciate your review and are glad to hear you enjoyed happy hour!
We appreciate your review and business, Eat4living, and are so glad you enjoyed our food!
Great salads for lunch.
Thank you for your review and business! We are so glad you enjoyed our salads and hope to see you again soon! Next time we recommend the crispy fried brussel sprouts!
The service left a lot to be desired, and I’m being generous.
Thank you for the review and your business, ChrisL. We appreciate the honest feedback and apologize for your poor experience. We will be working with our team to address this issue.
It was loud, service was slow and food was mediocre. I will not be back
Thank you for the review. We always appreciate feedback and are saddened to hear that your experience wasn't great. This will be passed along to our team for improvement.
Cinco d Mayo Brunch
Overpriced food for less than average taste. Service was okay.
We appreciate your honest review, Vicki, and are disappointed to hear your experience wasn't great. We will be following up on the issues you noted and hope to make some improvements.
Came here for Easter brunch and was not disappointed. The food was very good but the service was exceptional. Will definitely be back.
Thanks so much for the great review and your business! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Okay but certainly nothing special.
Thank you for the review Did3. We always appreciate honest feedback and hope we get to see you again for an improved experience.
What a huge disappointment. When I walked in to meet a friend, the host/server sat me at a different table, even though my friend had beat me there and was already seated. We came for brunch and when we went to use the waffle irons, they were unplugged even though brunch was still scheduled for another hour. I won't be returning to this location, unless it's drinks only. The highlight was watching the server, move furniture around the diners to set up for the dinner hour. Really classy...
Thank you for taking the time to review us, Mellissa. We really appreciate your feedback and apologize for the experience you received at our Whiskey and Waffles event. We are connecting with our team to figure out how we can constantly be improving and hope you give us another opportunity. Thank you again for your feedback.
I went for the Whiskey and Waffles brunch, which was promotional for Woodinville bourbon. The brunch and the cocktails were all really overpriced, especially considering that we had to make the waffles ourselves. It felt like a continental breakfast buffet at any generic hotel, maybe only slightly better quality, and was definitely not worth $20 per person just for the food. As far as the cocktails went, I had the Bourbon & Bubbly, which was very small (didn't even fill 3/4 of the champagne flute) and honestly not very good. My boyfriend had an Old Fashioned, which wasn't bad but also wasn't anything special. I think we were just expecting more since it was a promotional event that had been really hyped up, and we both left feeling disappointed.
Hi ChelseaP! Thank you for taking the time to review us and for attending our brunch. We are saddened to hear that you felt our Whiskey and Waffles brunch wasn't what you were expecting and we apologize for this. As a luxury hotel restaurant, we want our food and beverage to be exceptional for all our guests so we greatly value your feedback for this event. We will definitely take into account your comments about pricing, food and drink for our upcoming events.
We were hopeful this would be a great dining experience based on recommendations from the W hotel. We walked into an empty restaurant with cafeteria style seating. The food was absolutely terrible. I cannot emphasize how underwhelming this establishment is.
Thank you for taking the time to review us, we greatly value your feedback. I am disappointed to hear that your dining experience at TRACE was unpleasant and apologize that the food and overall ambience were lacking. We are addressing these issues and hope to improve future experiences for all our diners.
They are definitely not geared for lunch service. I made a reservation thinking it would be hopping, and there was literally no one there - not even to greet us. Menu was not inspired, and the food was disappointing. Dark and quiet - not at all what I expected from a W property restaurant! Waitress completely disappeared and I had to holler out to find her so we could pay - after we'd been there more than an hour and needed to get on to our other meetings. I was embarrassed to have chosen this over so many other options close by!
Thank you for taking the time to review us ShannonS! I would like to offer my sincerest apologizes for your poor experience dining with us. At Trace and W Seattle we strive to ensure the food and drink along with service is kept to a high standard. Following your comments I will make sure to address these issues with the restaurant and bar team to ensure we provide a 5 star experience next time.
Great place for a drink, wouldn’t recommend for dinner. the crab dip was disappointing, the cheese plate was decent, the food wasn’t on par with other $$$ restaurants, but the drinks were good.
Even though I work downtown, I've never been there before. I wanted to try some place different.
I was pleasantly surprised at the ambience of the place, the lighted bar counter and modern looking décor. The waitress was helpful, kind and very responsive to our needs, (recommendations, prompt service, coffee refills). The Trace Burger was scrumptious and the warm chocolate cake was to die for!
We were a group of four ladies headed to the theatre after dinner. Unfortunately, after we got seated it took over 30 minutes to have a server come to our table. No drinks, no water refills, nothing. They were not friendly and not helpful, full of excuses. Disappointing for a lovely restaurant with great food in the W Hotel.
Good location. Noisy and very poor service! Food tasted was ok but we ordered off the happy hour menu and were charged for the regular menu prices.
Cocktails, dinner, and dessert were all good, but not amazing. Every item we ordered seemed about $2-4 more expensive than I would have guessed for a restaurant like this in Seattle.
Got sick from salmon- very random plate- won’t be back
Stopped by here as it was close to our hotel and know the W is generally a "happening" place - Trace probably is later at night after the DJ arrives although the music in the bar area with accompanying back drop added a fun vibe. As for the food - the menu selections are basic and the actual food itself rather bland. The onion soup was a bowl of broth and onions in which a few croutons were placed along with a slice of mozzarella floating around. I could do better than that with a can of Campbell's soup. The chick pea humus was more chick pea that hummus - the most dense humus I've ever had. The macaroons saved the meal - a different spin on the theme with a rather toasty exterior but made for a delightful taste sensation. My overall suggestion: Come to the bar area for drinks, coffee and/or dessert and to listen to some good music.
We went there before going to the 5th Avenue Theater on Friday night. It was the first time there. The sign out doors clearly marked the establishment but when you walk in you walk right into the bar. There was live music in the bar. It was about 6:00 PM. There was a sign that said Check in up the stairs. We had reservations so up we went. When we got up there, that was not the right place. It was the check-in for the W-hotel. They pointed out where to go and off we went. We were surprised to find no one else in the restaurant. It is very modern looking place with multicolored lights and a concrete and steel look.
We were seated and the service was prompt. The menu is somewhat limited but we all found something we liked. My wife and I had the crab sandwich with garlic fries. They were both very good. Our grandson had one of the hamburgers and it was also very good. Our granddaughter had the chicken caesar salad which was also good. For dessert we shared the macaroons, creme brulee, and the cinnamon and sugar donuts. The food was great all the way around.
Since we had to be at the 5th Avenue at a set time, the service was fast enough to get us out of there on time but we did not feel rushed. Of course, we were the only people in the restaurant so it is hard to tell if the service would be as fast in a busy night.
We would go again and it is convenient to the 5th Avenue theater.
They somehow did everything wrong? Our waitress was fine, but the lighting was very bright and harsh, the music was too loud, and both the menu and the food were really really terrible! They subbed out the dates for cherry tomatoes on the salad we ordered and the dressing was acidic enough that it hurt my stomach. The sliders were very bland and dry. Wish I had gone to the cheap pizza place nearby.
There was only one server. We had to cancel our main course because there was no way it would make. It took 45 min to get onion soup, which wasn’t what you expect an onion soup to be.
Great food, glad we tried it. I was a little disappointed there weren't any mashed potatoes for a Thanksgiving dinner. Also, for the price it would have been nice if they offered to let people take home a to go box. The restaurant was not full, or even half full and they had tons of food! Makes one wonder what they do with all those leftovers? I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The chef is amazing! The macadamia nut stuffing was to die for!
I liked up a menu on line and got one for an Austin restaurant instead of Seattle. I wan’t expecting a buffet. It was very good food.
A little too loud for a business lunch, but otherwise was a great choice.
I think I was inadvertently marked as a no show. No one greeted us at the door so I walked back to the dining area and asked to seat myself. I had the scallops.
I’ve attached a photo of my receipt today to show I was there. Thanks for making the correction.
Great service, small menu of great food. Yes it’s a W hotel restaurant but it’s damn good and I eat here regularly.
Good food, but very noisy. Service was great. Server recommended the scallops and the salmon, and both were very good.
Great restaurant, food and service has always been excellent. I love that they have good acoustics for a quiet dinner or business lunch.
The experience was passable though not particularly memorable. The restaurant pumped trendy music more loudly than necessary into the cavernous, empty space with only two other tables of people during the weekday lunch hour. The brief menu covered most bases, providing at least one dish suitable for a person on a mainstream restrictive diet. The server provided attentive service without being fussy or rushing us. The food was tasty with decent presentation and well-portioned so as to sate our appetites without going overboard. While it's doubtful I will return any time soon, my friend and I enjoyed our lunches.
