On our last night in Seattle, we were pretty tired from the week of conference attending and exploring, so we decided to try Trace, the restaurant at the W where we were staying. It was absolutely outstanding and exactly what we were looking for.
My friend had the steak which hit the spot and I had the salmon- which was the best salmon I had during my week in the Emerald City. Thanks for a low-key, perfect ending to a great trip!
Left before we ate because after twenty minutes no one had even greeted us. Not very big selection for breakfast and very overpriced.
Large portions. Yummy food. Great service.
Fish tacos were dry and overcooked. Slaw was very bland. I've had decent meals here, but this was not one. Sometimes I think this restaurant exists only because it's pretty much expected that a 4 star hotel has a restaurant. As a result, it seems uninspired.

Food was good, nothing exceptional. Service was not good! Our waitress must have spilled or dropped things 7 times. And never an apology. Also service was very slow and the restaurant only had 3 tables occupied at the time. Probably won’t be back.
Thanksgiving buffet was tasty. Selection was so-so with limited options for sides. Excellent desert cart. Customers were a mix of people dressed up for thanksgiving and others there for happy hour, including one gentleman in grubby jeans and a white undershirt. It would have been acceptable for maybe 1/2 the price of $75 pp and $45 per child.
The food was very good. Not absolutely amazing. This is till above average restaurant food, but it is not worth $75 a plate plus the cost of drinks (even non-alcoholic). For this price I expected it to be amazing.
Went to Trace for Thanksgiving buffet. Quantity plentiful. Roasted veggies and carmelized Brussels sprouts good. Turkey moist. Macadamia nut dressing dry and flavorless. Desserts fair. Ambiance industrial. Hefty price tag.

The staff and waiters were very friendly and I think it was well worth the visit.
There was no where to check-in, you had to just wait around. Someone said they would be right with us but it took a long time, I think they are serving food in the bar as well. We told them we had a reservation but they did not seem to figure out the reservation system so they just sat us, which was fine. The menu was very bar type food heavy, if you wanted a meal there were only about a dozen items to pick from total. We waited a longer than usual amount of time for appetizers and our meal. When the Appetizers came the waiter did not even check to see if we had plates, which we did not. The food was good and the wait staff were pleasant but I think they were understaffed and there was no hostess. We will not be going there again unless it is for a drink in the bar.
We walked in and walked out and cancelled our reservation. Loud irritating beat music playing in dining room. It's one thing to have that in the bar but not while eating dinner!
The live music at the adjacent bar makes it too noisy for a meal with friends. The tables are set up in a weird way - doesn't feel very intimate. I guess it'll be better for happy hours.
Went for national cheeseburger day, which was recommended from the concierge at the W. The service was horrible. There was only 3 tables of people (we were 1 of the tables) in there, yet the waitress took forever to bring anything or check on us. The burger itself was ok. Not spectacular, not bad.. but toppings were just normal things. I was told it was a big deal with odd things to choose from, so we were disappointed.
A new waitress took over for the other one (who went on a little break?) And she was just as bad. Wasn't until my friend said bring us our check or give us service did she actually show initiative. We were supposed to go to another restaurant, but because it was so highly recommended at my check in we gave it a shot. It was a disappointing night for us!
This was a pre-theatre dinner. We didn't want a large meal, so picked from the Happy Hour menu. Even though it's a small menu, we were very satisfied and pleased with sharing the pulled pork sliders and the garlic green beans. We each ordered the salad. It was all very delicious. The restaurant is quite noisey, but still a pleasant place to be.
The food at Trace is great! We had the cauliflower soup (delicious with the croutons and cheese that melts as you eat it), saffron pasta (delicious, although could use some more sauce) and the fries. The ambiance is a little too fancy and uppity, but I guess that's what you get inside a W Hotel. The place was empty for 7pm on a Monday.
Super service. Unlike many hotel restaurants in this part of Seattle service is discretionary. They fully deserved a tip. It makes a difference.
The food was mixed between decent and good. The Huli Huli chicken was a little dry for my liking, but the brussel sprouts were very good.
We were disappointed in our brunch at Trace. Even though it was Mother's Day, it was only half full, so thought we would have prompt service. That was not the case. My son and I both ordered our poached eggs to be poached firm. they both arrived runny. When the server came over to check, I stated that they were runny and she could see the egg yolk spill out over my risotto. She offered to take the whole plate, and i asked for just the eggs to be replaced. 15 minutes later, the eggs arrived, but we had all finished our meal. And the eggs were still soft. They gave us 10% off, but it seemed too little compared to the high price of the dish. Our server also disappeared at the end of our meal, so we sat with our dirty dishes for 10 minutes before the manager cleared them away.
I was super disappointed in Trace! The now have a limited menu with no having a sushi menu. The burger was super overpriced for the tastes, minimal glass refill and soon as a big party came in, the service was poor. We won't go back again.
Trace was very beautiful! I went on a Friday for a special occasion dinner and was treated very nicely for the most part. I wasn't seated right away but the service was great and the music was spectacular! The food was okay... but the chicken was the best! Best of luck.
Our pre- symphony dinner was delicious and service was exemplary. Both appetizers and entrees were creative and local. Unbelievable texture, flavor and presentation is worth mentioning for the outstanding cauliflower soup. The music was a little loud but our waitress was determined to reduce the level so we could comfortably talk; she succeeded and we agreed this is worth returning for.
Service was mediocre at best. I ordered a margarita and it was the most horrid drink I have ever tasted in my life. However, our server was fast to replace my drink and that is always nice. The bar was rather small and completely packed so we opted for a table in the dining area which was nice and had a good atmosphere. We ordered a few appetizers and the mashed potatoes were incredible but everything else was just standard. For the most part everything was just ok. It definitely wasn't outstanding in anyway. Instead of staying long my date and I hopped over to The Capital Grille and The Purple Wine Bar both of which were amazing! So if in the area definitely go to Purple and Capital Grille instead of Trace.
The restaurant was very quiet for a Saturday night with only 2 or 3 other tables when we got there for an early dinner before the 5th Avenue theater. The staffing seemed about right until a couple of additional tables were seated, then it took a very long time to get our bill.
The food was good but the dinner menu was quite limited. Ironically, they had a larger, and more diverse, bar menu which was also available to us.
We'll probably try it again.
Tasty food, good ambiance, quiet and good service
Its really tragic how good the food was at Trace, as the experience was negative in virtually every other regard. Our server was pleasant and did her best to be attentive but the net result was we spent nearly 45 minutes waiting to order, then another 35 or so waiting for food to arrive. At one point a manager-type stopped by and informed us we'd be taken care of on the check, however when it came time to pay all that wasn't on the check was a single vodka tonic.
When we arrived and informed the hostess of our reservation we were told there was no dining table for us at this time, but we could sit in the bar area if we wanted or at an elevated bar table. We opted for regular seats at the bar, which wasn't too bad aside from having to turn to speak to each other. Without a reservation I wouldn't even mention this, but the point of making a reservation was to ensure a table when we arrived.
Things happen so had we been told that they were swamped and that some extra time was expected we would've been fine with it. The problem is that we sat, being completely ignored, with just water for nearly 45 minutes before we could place even a drink order. Fortunately we had our orders prepared so we could order everything at once and not risk another wait. Nearly half an hour later we were approached by the aforementioned manager type and told our food was next to be cooked.
Once the food arrived it was almost all worth it. The Huli-Huli BBQ Chicken was one of the best chicken dishes I've ever eaten. Cooked perfectly, moist all the way through, with flavorful skin and a bbq sauce that had wonderful complexity without being pretentious or hard to eat.
My wife had the poutine which was ok, though pretty short on cheese in any visible fashion. The pulled pork made up for it but it would have been heavenly with a more generous helping of cheese curds.

A Tale of Two restaurants! The bar/ lounge was great, it has atmosphere, comfort, and some of the best cocktails in town. The food in the bar was fun and flavorful. Contrast that to the restaurant space. Didn't see much of the server, despite a nearly empty dining room. The food was unimpressive, to be kind. Duck breast was tiny, and for some reason came with a lump of abused steak (not mentioned in the menu) that was hard and overcooked. The steak we did order was excessively fatty, which I suppose explains the massive size.
Overall, I would definitely return to the bar, but I don't ever want to sit down in that dining room again.

The duck breast was tough and my potatoes were under cooked. My wife's tuna was poor quality with tough fibrous connective tissue making it very hard to cut. The salad dressing seemed like out of the bottle Thousand Islands. A poor experience from the W Hotel.
Although the menu is very limited, the chef was more than happy to accommodate one of my party who is a vegetarian and eats gluten -free. The chef created a new dish just pour her. So overall I say this was a great choice for the evening.
Food was good, they lost my reservation and had no table set up for our party of 4, service was slow - they seemed understaffed.
We had reservations on Friday after Thanksgiving for dinner, upon arrival the dining room had one customer, the rest was empty. The hostess was not present, there were a few people at the bar, but we were basically ignored. Finally seated, given a menu for Brunch (oops), looked around and left shortly thereafter. The atmosphere is lacking, almost felt like a cafeteria, no ambiance, obviously no customers, very weird vibe ... would not recommend or go back again.
Went there for Thanksgiving tonight with my husband. I didn't love it. The food was decent. But, the service was very slow. The courses came out very slowly. I probably won't be coming back. All that being said, it seemed like a cool place for Happy Hours.
We booked a Thanksgiving Day reservation weeks ahead of time based on the menu presented here and on the restaurant website. Thanksgiving morning, around 9:45 am, we received a phone call from the restaurant that during our reservation time, 1:30 pm, they would not be serving the thanksgiving meal but instead serving brunch??? My Open Table reservation reminder even highlighted the Thanksgiving menu...
We chose to spend our money and time elsewhere. Terrible communication with Patrons.
I made my reservation online but when the number of individuals joining us for lunch increased, I called to change the number to 10 as instructed in the automated message when calling the number. I left a 3 messages 2 days before the scheduled date, no return call. I called the day before and left another message and again no one called back. I called the morning of and finally someone picked up the phone. This is why I only gave an overall rating of "Good".
Private room was perfect for informal committee lunch. Meal was excellent.
