This is our third time - trying to give them a chance- first we found a hair in our dinner, second the food was burnt- this time sent back the burger twice for overcook- ordered medium rare- can back both time well done! The waitress was super nice but not sure if we will go back-
Five diners, four different entrees along with multiple appetizers.
Overall food was very good, portions were a little small.
Service was crisp and efficient.
Our server, Mike, was very nice and attentive. The ambiance was fantastic and the bartender, Rene, was great! He clearly knows how to make good drinks, not too strong, not too weak, and delicious, along with being very attentive to our needs. The food ... not so great. The mussels although very small were delicious!! The two seafood dishes were very good, but small, and pricey. The salmon was ok and the steak was not cooked correctly. The outside was charred to the point of not being edible and half of the inside was ok, and half of it was raw! We will definitely be back for drinks and a fun atmosphere; not so sure about the food.
This was my 3rd visit to Towson Tavern and it was anything but a charm! I felt awful too as it was girls night out and considering my prior experiences I knew it would be a great fit...I was wrong. It took 25 minutes to get our 1st cocktail...we typically have two when we're out but this night - we couldn't afford the wait!. The other let down was our server's attitude, this poor guy completely lacked people skills. When I think about the other servers I've experienced at Towson Tavern I think he dodged training. The place wasn't overly busy on the restaurant side that night so I can't put a finger on why the wait for drinks or our servers attitude. My friends said they enjoyed the food but the service alone would keep them from going back. You only get one chance to make a first impression and Town Tavern/our server missed the mark for my friends that night. My husband and I may return sometime to give them another go...we'll see.
the Tavern has a very noisy bar section and a very quiet separate dining area. thankfully we were in the separate dining area and with only a few other diners since it was Good Friday. Very quiet efficient service. My companion was disappointed that the crispy duck was not available for one of the salad entrees so substituted salmon instead on a different salad. Everything was delicious (love the oyster small plate) and it was great to have just simple scoops of ice cream from the local dairy Tarkana as an inexpensive option for dessert. Valet parking is very helpful.
Our waitress was really great. She was personable and knowledgeable without being overbearing, and was very efficient. Her feedback to our questions about the food and drinks on the menu had no hint of the not-too-helpful pretense we often encounter of how good everything is. Rather, her feedback seemed genuine, and as it turned out quite reliable. We also appreciated how the manager came by a number of times (paying enough attention to close the shades to block off setting sun just as it was starting to uncomfortably hit our table) making sure everything was going well, and doing so in a friendly, nonintrusive way. The whole staff deserves kudos.
But it was a little surprising that we went on a Sat. evening, and the restaurant was far from full. Maybe that was because of Spring Break at the nearby university, or maybe the restaurant is still new and not well known. Hopefully, word will get out enough for this very good, big time restaurant to thrive.
The phone number is out of service and it was extremely LOUD. The valet lost someone's keys and assigned it to another car. Three of us were waiting and had to get our cars ourselves. The valet service didn't run to get your car while your waiting in the freezing cold, they just casually walked. Nightmare. The manager as well only asked 'certain' people how everything was. Luckily we were one of those but they are social profiling. Sad.
Our party of four enjoyed our dinner. It’s a lovely restaurant, very well appointed and
comfortable. We were there at Thanksgiving with a larger group and enjoyed it. A good find.
I've been here a few times before and I've always liked the food and the atmosphere. No place else in town has a better happy hour. However, as time goes on, they seem to be less and less accommodating for people with food allergies. With so many other options, I often don't even think about going there. It's a shame, too, because cooking without gluten is really not that big of a deal.
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE & FOOD SUPER DUPER DELICIOUS
This was a first-time visit (business meal) for most of the attendees who were from out of town. The occasion was to welcome our new CEO. Everyone liked the drink and food selections and the friendliness and competence of the staff. Thank you for making this a great event for all.
We had heard good things about the Towson Tavern but were terribly disappointed. Fried oysters were way overcooked. Pasta dish was something we could have gotten at Bertucci's for half the price. Beet salad was unimpressive. Server was friendly but forgot our one side order. There are too many other better restaurants in the area so save yourself the trip.
Valentine's Day dinner with my husband and the service was really congenial, but slow. The steak and cake was excellent so it made up for the wait. I would come back, anticipating the wait, it would be fine.
Liked dining options, casual bar area vs white tablecloth dining. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Delicious food and libations with ample choices to satisfy most palates. Leave room for the bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce! Sweet last minute find. Will venture back.
I loved it me and my friends enjoyed everything from the atmosphere , food and drinks love it will be back very soon
We have had great food at Towson Tavern on two occasions. HOWEVER, the service here can be spotty. Our first dining experience was great, with a great server, who was a bit overwhelmed by multiple tables, but did well.
On our 2nd and more recent visit on 1/26/18, we made reservations for a Friday evening at 645PM. My wife & I arrived a little early, and the hostess delayed seating us and disappeared for about 10 minutes. Then, the hostess kept trying to seat us in the noisy bar area, and we twice had to ask her to put us in the quieter restaurant section (we were having dinner with friends). About a half and hour into being there, I get repeated cell phone calls from this SAME hostess wanting to know if we are going to SHOW UP for our reservation. Like WTF??? I finally went to the hostess stand to inform her that we had been seated for nearly 40 minutes already. Our waiter seemed to be completely distracted by something. While he did well with our drinks and apps, the dinners got mixed up. We took our time with dinner and chatted quite a bit. While not having finished eating dinner, we asked for coffee for two of us. That never showed up. As he was cleaning the table, he hands us the bill, WHICH WE HAD NOT YET REQUESTED!!! He never brought the coffee, and never asks if we want dessert (which we did). When he finally comes to the table (after we have had to get up and get another server to go get him), we ask for dessert menus. FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER, he shows up with these menus. Needless to say, we had had it with him at this point. We just paid and left, and left minimal tip. The surprising thing with this entire experience was that the Towson Tavern was only about 1/3 full. There were A LOT of empty tables in there. The Towson Tavern Hostess and Server ruined the occasion, despite the good food.
I had never been to the Towson Tavern and was extremely happy with the food, service and ambiance. I met up with some friends (former co-workers) and it was the perfect place to catch up for lunch. My bet is that it's a great spot for happy hour and dinner too.
My wife and I had a great night! This restaurant seems to be bringing a little dignity and casual fine dining back to Towson.
Lovely meal, able to converse well. Less populated timing. Service a tad slow.
11 of us ate here in Jan 2018 and we all had the most amazing food. The starters were excellent and we all said the mains were among the best food we have had. Great service too. Wine Wednesday is 50% off wine under $100.
Excellent all round!
We came in to celebrate my birthday, it was a table of 4. From the minute we opened the door we felt warmly welcomed. The host was polite and friendly. Sally our server was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. As far as the food goes we were all blown away. The other couple we were with are extreamly picky and they loved everything. Chef Josh is truly one of the best in the game. If you haven’t had a chance to go I highly recommend it. Why go to the city when you have Towson Tavern.
Very good food. Half the restaurant is white table cloths and quiet. The other half is a well done bar.
This was our second Christmas Eve there. Last year was fine. This year was the food was so bad it was sad. Steaks raw, lamb chops small and burned, potatoes not cooked, etc. The waitress knew what was going on in the kitchen and didn’t care. Shawn, the GM, did his best to recuse the situation...... but it was a joke. I hope the brothers can get it straight. Start with a new kitchen staff!!
Good was good but service was bad. It wasn't even busy. GM checked on us and was apologetic. Our waiter snapped to it after that.
The food was not good, and was overpriced for what you received. The feel in the room off the main room is terrible. It is like you are ostracized from the rest of the group. The menu generally needs to be reconsidered.
We loved the food but service was slow to having to hunt down our server.
Held our office holiday party here. Amazing time and food. Great service! Loved it!
Lots of special things on this menu; Appetizers of lamb meatballs & tuna tartare are not to be missed. Main courses of steak and cast iron chicken are amazing. Menu is seasonal and local- and really worth the trip. The chef has talent for sure; the bar needs a better program to match the food.
Had a post-Thanksgiving family get together. Group of 5. After our experience I would say that it went VERY WELL and everyone left satisfied. That is a feat considering we had couple people in our group who very rarely try anything new and are very picky. The menu was great because it had plenty of new and exciting things to try but also some simple classic dishes that made it easy to find something for everyone. In particular, the HOG WINGS were a table favorite. Scallops and Grits were another hit - the scallops were huge! I had the Pork Bolognese and loved it. The atmosphere on the dining side of the restaurant was great because it is a little more subdued than the bar side so it was perfect and had really lovely decor. I'd definitely go back again soon!
Way to overpriced, never seen cream of corn served w crab cakes, or some black charred plantain I think it was. Crab cakes were dry.
Service was terrible. Food was average/below average for some items. Soup came out cold, steak frites was not impressive, Caesar salad was good
Food was absolutely delicious! Service good and ambience was very nice too! We loved it!
First timer to Towson Tavern. Had a business lunch interview and the experience was great. Service was fantastic, and not to invasive to allow for conversation. Noise level was appropriate for lunch conversation. Sandwiches were hearty and reasonably priced. Shrimp salad was delicious.
Only downside is parking. However, lots are ample and close by so we found a lot with an open spot with a short walk.
An upscale local find! Fresh, clean architectural style, professional servers/ support staff, valet parking: as to menu, very creative offerings, meats, pasta , salads, can be prepared gluten free . Small plates, share items, and full entrees were all quality ingredients attractively presented. Try the Duck Fat popcorn appetizer. Quality wine glasses and china for a local "pub"/ dining room a plus.
We loved every part of our experience, can't wait to go back. Also the chef is truly one of the best!!!
We have been long time diners at Towson Tavern and this was the first disappointing experience we had. Appetizers and salad was lovely. Both my husband and I ordered the short rib. Sadly it very dry and bland. We left most on our plates...odd that the server did not even notice...
We had a lovely meal at Towson Tavern. Our server, Sally (sp?) was terrific: attentive and helpful. We began with the French onion soup, which was very good, but just a bit on the salty side. For dinner, my husband had the chophouse salad, which he enjoyed. One of our guests had a burger, which is usually only served at lunch, but the chef made it for her anyway and she said it was very good. Our other guest had the salmon, which he ate with great relish. My dinner was the 6 oz beef tenderloin which was cooked perfectly, very well seasoned with a lovely sear on the outside. The gratin potatoes that accompanied my dinner were tasty, but the potatoes could have been just a little softer for my taste. All in all, we were very pleased with our meal choices and with Towson Tavern! We will definitely be back......
Good food. Only one waitress at 1:00 PM on a Friday afternoon, so service was not fast. I would go again.
The food was OK however our steaks were not prepared as requested. I requested a well done steak which is not what I received.
After the entire table ordered steak the chef came to our table and made a custom suggestion for a more family style approach. It turned out fantastic and the entire meal turned out great.
