Towson Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Lots of special things on this menu; Appetizers of lamb meatballs & tuna tartare are not to be missed. Main courses of steak and cast iron chicken are amazing. Menu is seasonal and local- and really worth the trip. The chef has talent for sure; the bar needs a better program to match the food.
Had a post-Thanksgiving family get together. Group of 5. After our experience I would say that it went VERY WELL and everyone left satisfied. That is a feat considering we had couple people in our group who very rarely try anything new and are very picky. The menu was great because it had plenty of new and exciting things to try but also some simple classic dishes that made it easy to find something for everyone. In particular, the HOG WINGS were a table favorite. Scallops and Grits were another hit - the scallops were huge! I had the Pork Bolognese and loved it. The atmosphere on the dining side of the restaurant was great because it is a little more subdued than the bar side so it was perfect and had really lovely decor. I'd definitely go back again soon!
First timer to Towson Tavern. Had a business lunch interview and the experience was great. Service was fantastic, and not to invasive to allow for conversation. Noise level was appropriate for lunch conversation. Sandwiches were hearty and reasonably priced. Shrimp salad was delicious.
Only downside is parking. However, lots are ample and close by so we found a lot with an open spot with a short walk.
An upscale local find! Fresh, clean architectural style, professional servers/ support staff, valet parking: as to menu, very creative offerings, meats, pasta , salads, can be prepared gluten free . Small plates, share items, and full entrees were all quality ingredients attractively presented. Try the Duck Fat popcorn appetizer. Quality wine glasses and china for a local "pub"/ dining room a plus.
We have been long time diners at Towson Tavern and this was the first disappointing experience we had. Appetizers and salad was lovely. Both my husband and I ordered the short rib. Sadly it very dry and bland. We left most on our plates...odd that the server did not even notice...
We had a lovely meal at Towson Tavern. Our server, Sally (sp?) was terrific: attentive and helpful. We began with the French onion soup, which was very good, but just a bit on the salty side. For dinner, my husband had the chophouse salad, which he enjoyed. One of our guests had a burger, which is usually only served at lunch, but the chef made it for her anyway and she said it was very good. Our other guest had the salmon, which he ate with great relish. My dinner was the 6 oz beef tenderloin which was cooked perfectly, very well seasoned with a lovely sear on the outside. The gratin potatoes that accompanied my dinner were tasty, but the potatoes could have been just a little softer for my taste. All in all, we were very pleased with our meal choices and with Towson Tavern! We will definitely be back......
Our food was very good during this night out. I had a pasta with fresh mushrooms and it was outstanding. Great flavor and rich, but not too heavy. Everyone in our group (four of us) liked their meals....and the wine by the glass was an interesting mix. I have been there many times, but this was the best yet.
Sitting in a table near the bar during happy hour can be noisy, but it was not unreasonable.
The menu had a wide variety of wonderful choices and we were not disappointed.
Service was top notch, attentive but not obtrusive.
I highly recommend Towson Tavern.
Tried the Tavern on a recommendation from a coworker. She raved about the French Onion soup but evidently that's a seasonal offering and we didn't get to try it!! Oh, well-the rest of the food was very good and the service was great. The complimentary valet parking is a plus since there is usually none in this part of Towson! Well worth a try and the Blood Orange Margarita was a hit!!!
Definitely much more creative than "pub grub" as the name "Tavern" implies. Totally creative menu (and bar), each dish (I LOVED the "Chicketta" - unique - menu didn't mention chicken "wrapper" was initially cooked sous vide - waiter told us that) was prepared with top-notch care and ingredients AND preparation. While the entrée prices seemed steep at first for a Tavern, the carefully created/selected sides and salads that come with the entrees make them a good value.
Loved the place!!!! Loved the food. Drinks were excellent!!!
Great Food, Great Atmosphere...I was just a little taken back with the prices. I guess when you have a name like "Tavern", you expect meals maybe under $15.00. $22.00 for Fish and Chips is a little excessive I think in a bar setting restaurant.
Great service, excellent food. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The servers were attentive without being overbearing. I was impressed at how accommodating they are with kids; it really made our Mother's Day meal special to have happy kids who were treated with as much respect as the adults at the table. The Shakshuka with Lamb Meatballs was our favorite appetizer (the Deviled Eggs and Lebanese Platter were really good as well). The Scallops and Grits are comforting and filling without being heavy, perfectly seasoned with a hint of heat...a must try! The Gnocchi with Mushrooms was delicious! All of the desserts were great, I think with nine people at the table we had a great sampling of foods and nothing disappointed us! Great cocktails too. We will be back.
I was in town for a conference and met friends for dinner at the Towson Tavern. I arrived first and asked the waiter for a daiquiri—up, no straw please. He replied that they didn't serve frozen drinks. I said that I just wanted a regular daiquiri, up, not frozen. He told me he'd go check with the bartender and returned after a moment to say they "didn't have the mix" to make a daiquiri.
I didn't want to embarrass him by pointing out that a daiquiri is simply rum, sugar and lime juice shaken with cracked ice and strained into a glass, so I made another choice. When my drink came, sure enough there were two straws. (Guess how many single-use plastic straws go into the landfills every year?)
My friends arrived and we ordered. I had scallops with grits and they were delicious, as was my friend's salad. Her husband's fish and chips were pretty standard fare.
There was a wide selection of beers, which pleased my friends. The waiter loosened up a bit eventually. The restaurant is nice, with good food, friendly service and easy parking. I would have given it a better rating had the barkeep been a real bartender. With a search engine on every phone, there's no reason for anyone to say they can't make a drink at a fully stocked bar unless they're slammed (they weren't) or the cocktail is something esoteric and complex (it isn't). The blood orange margarita was yummy, though.
