We went for their last night. They were running out of everything, but we had a tremendous meal. We will miss this place, but look forward to whatever Matt decides to do next.

It was overpriced and uninspired. The meals were between ok and good... but the prices were very high for the portion size. There are many better choices in the neighborhood.

Located in the heart of downtown Boston, Townsman is just a 5 min walk from South station.
I was here for breakfast this Sunday with my wife and found the place quite amusing. The setting is nice. They have outdoor seating and also live music.
The food is particularly interesting. We order “Avocado toast” which was delicious to say the least. The crushed boiled egg on top and cheese melted in the mouth.
“Chicken and waffles” with smoked maple was also good. I wish they could add in a little extra something like whipped cream or may be some caramelized onions on the side. But that didn't make much of a difference. We also had the “Braised lamb hash” with sunny side eggs and salad - the lamb was mixed with the hash browns, which made the hash taste even better from the lamb juices.
From their pastry board, “Lemon curd bar” stands out. Made of green strawberries, meringue, whipped cream and nuts gave a crunchy flavorful ending to it all!
This place is a favorite now and definitely goes into my list of top 10 breakfast spots. Will surely come back.

Everything was on-point. Food was exceptional and service was friendly, attentive, but not pushy. One of the best cheese boards we've ever had, and the deviled eggs were crazy good. No part of our meal really had a weak point, definitely will be back next time in Boston

We got the seafood tower xl for three - it was more than enough. I wish it had more seafood, less minced like meat products. My one drink was exceptionally pricey - was charged $18 for a shot of Don Julio and $1.50 for the soda? Weird, no? Then the waitress took it before I was finished. I wasn’ paying attention and my last gulp was gone! That was at least $2!

Found Townsmen on Open Table, and loved it! Between us, we tried oysters, scallops, chicken, Bibb lettuce salad, and deviled eggs. Everything was amazing, very flavorful, unique, and delicious! Highly recommended, we’ll be back!

This restaurant didn't wow me and was just ok. I was especially annoyed by the fact that our server told one of the guests in my party that "she needed to see if the chefs would be willing to cook a burger in a separate pan because it might ruin the flavor profile". Keep in mind that this was after the guest told her she had a deadly allergy that required the burger to be cooked off the grill. Really not concerned about the flavor profile at that point! A very strange experience.

Townsman never disappoints; it is simply our favorite place to dine in Boston. Our eternal favorite is the tartar - the homemade chips, the mystical gribiche and the egg yolk - oh the egg yolk! The bone marrow with sweetbreads is superb and everyone loved it - we though gut it would be the best of the night but then we had the duck leg and the fried soft shell crab - we licked the green garlic-cashew sauce from the plate on that one...but what do we know?!!! And little known fact - they make one of the best sazerac’s in town.

The food was great but that was no surprise. The bartenders were flat out rude. My boyfriend and I came from out of town and made a point to have drinks at the bar before sitting down, in hopes to chat with the bartenders and get some local information. There was only 1 other couple at the bar and the dining room was half empty, so they were NOT busy but they were noticeably aloof and avoided conversation. At one point I asked about the ingredients in one of our drinks and the bartender sneered at me as he gave his obligatory response. Having worked as a bartender in similar style establishments, I know that the job is at least partly about concierge service and I was disappointed in their attitude. Otherwise we were very pleased.

Townsman had some creative culinary dishes. The shares plates are fairly small, so plan on getting a lot of these! The bone marrow and sweetbreads were delicious. The octopus shares plate was our favorite of the night. The drinks are pretty great as well and they have something for everybody! The bar tenders might have been some of the best I've interacted with at a Boston restaurant in a while.

We went for Sunday brunch. The restaurant was somewhat busy but the service was incredibly slow. We were there for two hours from the time we were seated until we got up which I felt was a bit too long for a brunch for 2 people. I specified a nut allergy and when my food arrived it had a pine nut pesto on it so it had to be remade. It took quite a while to get my food and when I did, it was missing the toast which was a third of the meal. I waited a bit but ended up finishing my food. The toast arrived after our plates were cleared. My husband got the chicken and waffles which were ok, the waffles were a bit on the burned side. I got the soft scramble which is basically scrambled eggs over some peas and toast (which I didn't get to have). I'm all for paying more for good food and my husband and I go out to eat quite a bit, but I don't think our meals were worth the cost. The maple syrups were amazing and we did end up purchasing 2 bottles. Overall, I wouldn't go back for brunch but would give dinner a try.

I mean, I have had better quality tapas and from the the menu online you don't think it's going to be as "hipster" as it is. I dressed up given the pricing and style of food and was by far very over-dressed for this place. Not that it was super bad, but not worth the value in my opinion and my fiance and I left afterward to get groceries so we could cook at home because nothing was that great or filling. Everything was very fatty and oily and didn't really make sense in terms of texture combinations. Also, they clearly cut the scallops in half when they were seared sooo.... why did I pay somewhere around $15 for 1.5 scallops when they're $17 for an entire pound at the store? The service was good though, the waiter very knowledgable and friendly. I won't go back but I am sure some people would be really into this.

Really upset with the Townsman this go around. I’d been twice before and had stellar experiences. I had decided to bring family to celebrate my graduation. The service was painfully slow and the food was underwhelming. Very little taste to the dishes, and all three steaks were cold by the time we actually received them. I was incredibly embarrassed to have chosen and recommended this place for a celebration. I’d highly recommend taking your business elsewhere.

It was annoying and not good. Mother’s Day brunch. Place was empty even though we were told our table wasn’t ready. There was only 3 tables sat. One of them was the chef’s family. Problem was they sat us next to the door of the patio. It was cold out and the chef kept opening It for his kids to run around. Then the door would jam and staff would push on it hard and make noises. We asked several staff to stop, they didn’t communicate It and kept doing It. Chef sat, didn’t care but realized we were annoyed. Mom ate brunch with her jacket on. Came here for dinner when they first opened, wasn’t good. Thought would try them for brunch, wasn’t good. Good luck.

The restaurant does not open until noon for lunch, only has one hostess and not enough wait staff or kitchen staff to serve the number of people who all arrive at once. We had to wait ~ 10 minutes to be seated and another 10-15 minutes to get our lunch order put in (so, we're already 20 minutes into an hour lunch break). It then took another ~15 minutes to get our food. It is clearly not geared to patrons that need to get back to work. The food was fine.

Overall food was good. Dinner with 4 friends. We shared plates. Not much meat on the menu. Disappointed that the meatball was it’s ‘signature dish’ per the waitress. Pretty unimaginative.
Decor somewhat sparse. Felt like a nice dinning room at a young tech company. Not too busy so noise level ok.
Brussels sprouts tastey . Burrata ,pretty plate ,good flavor. Three dessert choices but nothing remarkable.
