I have lived in NYC and Philadelphia most of my life. This may have been one of the top three meals of my life and that includes international and local dining. For our anniversary, every single staff member wished us a happy anniversary and the menu even mentioned it. The speciality cocktails menu, the wine list, the menu, the dessert, and the wait staff all get fantastic grades. No complaints what so ever. Highly recommended.

Staters were delicious. Mains were not good value at all. Rabbit was bland and very small for the price.

Great meal from start to finish in a small, charming setting. Knowledgeable wait staff, prompt service, four courses of outstanding food, plus an amuse bush. Only wish that the seats in the dining room were a bit more comfortable.

We are regulars at Townsend, going there for dinner a few times a year and ending up at the bar every 2 months or so. As always, the food was great and the service (Steve is the best server in the city) was outstanding. Great wine pairings with the tasting course dinner (which was able to be made gluten free!). All in all, top knotch!

Everything was delicious and well portioned.
Our server Megan was delightful and knowledgeable.
Our only real criticism was no espresso.
Really?’ Just plain coffee was a disappointment after a fine meal

Your scotch selection was limited with all choices from the same area. Diversity would be welcomed. I don’t like drinking a cigar

Bone Marrow was fabulous

The tasting menu with the wine pairing was very good. Service was very good as usual. This is our new favorite restaurant in the city because of excellent personal service, and the always fresh, interesting food, but, make sure to bring your wallet, because like everything in life, very good does not come cheap!

Went on a Wednesday night and sat downstairs. At the time there was just one other table seated and we were placed right next to them. They were a bit loud and pompous...which isn't the restaurants fault but there were plenty of other tables where they could have seated us...being an anniversary dinner it was a real bummer. I would have, and in hindsight should have, asked for another table so I partially blame myself. I had assumed the place was going to fill up which it never did. Otherwise service was EXCELLENT. Portions are small and it's expensive but I'm willing to pay if the food is delicious and Townsend rarely disappoints. Wish they had more selection on the menu. Unfortunately, my girlfriend recently found she has a food allergy to crustaceans and shell fish so half the menu was off limits for her. I would go again but only on special occasions at their prices..and I would check their menu first and be more assertive about seating.

The food is superb and will satisfy even the most persnickety of foodie palates. But the cleverly-named, vibrant cocktails exemplify this modern french experience.

The food comes in ridiculously small portions, was nothing extremely amazing, and we all just about fainted when we got the bill, because we paired wine with the tasting menu and let's just say, there was NO value in either decision. Won't be going back there. Ever.

While the food was very good, the portions were minuscule - and I am not a big eater. I would say the fish portion (course three) was maybe two ounces. For the price, there are other restaurants I prefer.

One of the best places in the city, if you have any complaints about anything here you should evaluate your expectations and realize how lucky you are to have food as good as this available to you.

Have been meaning to eat here for quite some time and was not disappointed- if you wanna a doggie bag to take home food go somewhere else. If you wish to have a meal that is not hurried where you easily hear dining partner’s conversation over a carefully prepared meal - then this is your place. Not a terribly extensive menu so check it over first but allow yourself to be a bit adventurous- impeccable ingredients thoughtfully prepared and presented

The food was very good, the service was terrific. The only complaint was that the portions were so small my husband had to come home and eat a sandwich. They are fine for someone my size, 5/ 5" and 120 lbs., but for someone who is 6 ft and 170 lbs. it was just not enough. Delicious but not enough food.
