Nice spot, great food, excellent service and very knowledgeable staff.
We enjoyed our dinner very much, it was a birthday party for 9 people. The server was great, and was patient with us, because a couple members of our group were late, due to a lack of parking in the area.
Would absolutely recommend.
It's an attractive spot, and we had a corner table at the rear of the first floor. There is a dining room above. The scenery from that table was less than desirable--the undistinguished rear of the next door building, a spiral staircase and a fence. I would like to see them beautify that area, which could be done with plantings. The food was more expensive than we expected, but also more creative and delicious. Inside the restaurant, it is plainly elegant. I had the foie gras and the chicken with vegetables. Both were very good indeed.
We are always pleased when dining at Townsend. In addition to other visits to the restaurant throughout the year, it has become my choice for my birthday dinners with my husband. The staff is attentive; the food preparation is excellent; and I highly recommend it.
The food is the star at Townsend. The ambiance is rather plain and the chairs are uncomfortable, but the food is outstanding -- fresh, top quality ingredients prepared just right with unusual combinations that really work. Among the best food we have had in the city.
We had a reservation for 8 pm. When we arrived at 8, they said there was a bit of a wait if we want to sit at the hightop table in the window of the bar. We had a drink. We saw others come in and be seated. After 40 minutes, I spoke to the manager. She apologized and said it would be a bit. I said waht about that empty table right there. She was like, um, ok. Honestly, that spoiled the rest of the evening for us.
The food was good, but we won't return. After spending $211 on dinner for 2, I did not have a good feeling afterward.
Excellent service customer service chef cuisine. Everything just perfect.
The food is always amazing and it is very hard to decide on what to order. I sometimes have to order more than three courses just to cover the bases. Sometimes I wonder if I want to deal with the traffic and parking but I brave through and Townsend always makes me thrilled I did.
My wife and I justed had a wonderful meal on a Saturday night. We elected to go with the 5 course tasting menu. The dishes were creative, using a wide range of ingredients and executed skillfully. There were definitely a few new flavor combinations we’ve never experienced before. Service was on point. Attentive but not over bearing. Highly recommended!
Great place! Food was fantastic and service was outstanding. A nice find in Passyunk!
Food was phenomenal. Service was very attentive but not intrusive. Our waitress Megin was extremely knowledgeable not only about the menu but also the wines. We have read reviews that the portions were meager, but we found that not to be the case. It was a perfect evening all around.
Always a delight to dine at Townsend. The service is fantastic. The staff is so welcoming. Tod is a fantastic chef
The Cote de boeuf was astounding ~ lovely, charming atmosphere
Loved the food and service but as a couple who was looking for a quiet evening, we sat right next to a very loud and boisterous table of four. Very unsettling and ruined the meal for us. We couldn’t even hear ourselves speak. This should be monitored by management or maybe tables for two should be sectioned off for intimacy purposes.
Loved this restaurant and the food. Had a WONDERFUL wait staff individual named Megin who was extraordinary!!
A 3 hr dinner that seemed timeless and fabulous.
Absolutely outstanding in every way. It was my daughter’s birthday and they added a birthday wish to her menu. Just a lovely perfect restaurant.
Everything was beyond wonderful! The service is amazing and everyone was delicious. I made the reservation and indicated that it was a birthday celebration. The restaurant called earlier in the day asking the the name of the birthday girl. They had a menu printed with a personalized birthday message. What an extraordinary touch. This restaurant goes above and beyond and we will definitely be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed the Marinated Hamachi, Warm Spring Vegetable Salad, Escargot and Fava Bean, Rabbit Pot au Feu, Halibut, and Striped Bass on a quiet Sunday evening. Service was excellent. The astonishingly good"Rabbits are Thieves" cocktail is a must. The small but very good wine list would benefit from a few less expensive additions. Looking forward to our next visit.
Wonderful food and our waitress was so friendly!
Sauces to die for and an interesting wine list!
Creative menu. Every dish was delicious--oysters, foie gras, warmed vegetable salad, seared scallops, halibut, sea bass, and peach tart. We can recommend them all. We were warmly welcomed. Our server was personable, knowledgeable, and capable. The bonus was that we found parking directly in front of the restaurant. Strongly recommend.
Ambiance & seating is most comfortable .. Service is Outstanding.
Wine List & by the glass is Outstanding .
Food was highly overpriced for mediocre quality .
Kitchen needs to Up their Game !!!!!!!
3 couples for a late dinner, extremely accommodating service, but several items over salted...will try again, it was really late on a Wednesday...
Wonderful foodie spot. Absolutely recommend the chefs tasting. Expensive but worth it if you are into a tasting. Wines are different then your usual wine list and cocktails are very eclectic. Can’t wait to go back!!
One of my favourite restaurants in Philadelphia. The menu is sophisticated, the food extraordinary and the service impeccable. Truly a world-class restaurant and worth every penny.
From the moment we arrived we were treated great! The staff was warm and friendly, the decor was simple and nice. The food was incredible! We got the hamachi- so light and delicious, scallops were cooked to perfection. The foie gras was unreal and our entrees were amazing also- the fish and the rabbit. Everything was great and we will return :)
Great experience all around. Steven was very knowledgeable re food and wine. Thank you, Townsend was on my list for a while.
It was our first time in the restaurant. The food and service were outstanding. A person in our group had many food restrictions. I was impressed with the accommodations made for her throughout the meal. We will be back!
The meal was delicious, and the cocktails were so good!
I love everything about this restaurant. So much so that I’m
reluctant to go anyplace else! The food is fabulous, the setting lovely, and the service perhaps the best I’ve ever known (and I worked in restaurants for 20 years!). Honestly cannot recommend it highly enough. My only concern with giving it such a good review is that it will be more difficult to book my favorite table next time I go!
The scallops were the best we have ever tasted. Service was top rate.
Great food, service, quiet.
An upscale restaurant in a neighborhood. Thoughtful, helpful and vigilant server French food full of taste- portions on the small size but artistically presented and delicious. Menu has many seafood options which we enjoyed but might be a problem for some.. There were 6 in our party and we had a lovely round table in an alcove on the 2nd floor - great for conversation. It was a delightful evening for celebrating a memorable occasion. Pre-reservation phone call to check for allergies was a nice touch . Thanks for everything
I love it every time. Get here
I don’t usually write reviews. We are very picky foodies.. our meal was outstanding. Escargot was average, foie gras outstanding didn’t like the recommended pairing wine. Bone marrow spot on, bread could have been toasted more. We had 2 fish dishes, both spectacular. Can’t wait to go back!
Everything was wonderful from service to wonderful food.
Portions of food were way too small for the price. The food overall Was excellent. Three bells using the Craig Laban scale. We will try brunch next time. Wines are also overpriced. Only 4 tables dined there last night.
