Townsend Ratings and Reviews
My boyfriend and I ate here on a weekend away in Philly, I was extremely impressed. The food was incredible, in fact one of the best meals I have had in the past year and the service was great! The Scallops were to die for! Definitely recommend this for a nice romantic night out
Valentine’s Day dinner and first time we went. Menu was chefs tasting and fantastic. A little pricey at $95 pp plus a $75 pp wine pairing but it was a special occasion. Probably won’t be a frequent choice because of cost and all courses but our server was absolutely awesome.
You went from favorite to never again in one meal. Overpriced and terrible portions. No crab in the “lump “ crab risotto. A silver dollar sized portion of fat for wavy beef. Too many good places in Philadelphia to waste money here. Thanks for ruining our special occasion dinner
The restaurant has a nice ambiance. It took the waiter some time for him to get to us after we sat down but it was a busy evening. Once he got our orders, the food came promptly. A couple of the dishes had a lot more Asian influence than I had anticipated. Their cocktails are awesome. Overall, great experience. I would go back for drinks.
Duck was outstanding. Hamachi great. Escargot delicious. I think lobster dish flavor very good but lobster a little chewy and scant amount for price! I was not fond of oyster dish. They were too big for my taste and would rather have them cooked or raw. Not sure how they were intended but were in an in between state which was not good. I would go back as service was excellent and flavours overall were great.
Came for wife's birthday. The food is well prepared and the presentation is very nice. If ordering a la carte, I would recommend ordering a bit more than just one dish per course as the portions are quite small, even for the final course. For a dinner for two, perhaps a total of 7 or 8 plates.
The desserts were incredible -- very good creme brulee and probably the best chocolate souffle I have ever had.
Seating is very intimate, only a few tables downstairs. Total was about $200 for our dinner before tip.
This was our first trip to Townsend, friends brought us because it is their favorite restaurant. We loved it. Everything was fresh and well made, flavors that were amazing. The food presentation was excellent. Drink menu offered a variety of wines and unique cocktails. We tried everything on the first and second course menus which did not disappoint. I had Barramundi for my main course which was perfectly cooked with a crisp skin and fresh squash. Dessert was perfect also! We will be back!
Townsend is by far one of Philadephia’s best restaurants. And that is saying a lot because Philly has an amazing food scene. Aside from the top level cocktails, delicious selection of wine and beautiful food, what sets Townsend apart is impeccable service. Anyone who appreciates fine dining knows that great service is the key to enjoying the creations from the bar/kitchen and making the dining experience special. This is true at Townsend whether you choose a seat at the bar or reserve a table in their intimate dining room. Our last time in, celebrating a birthday, was truly made special by our server, Megin...I can’t say enough about her warmth, her knowledge, and her sensitivity to our dining pleasure. Her timing was impeccable, never interrupting but magically always there when we might have needed her. Generous and creative, she made magical wine pairings for all our food selections. It was simply the most delicious and fun evening we’ve enjoyed in memory...I don’t usually go out of my way to leave reviews but while huge compliments are due to the chef for the exquisitely balanced food, it was Megin who truly set the bar and left us once again marveling at how Townsend so consistently rules the roost in this great city.
