After a 5-year absence, for no good reason, I took my dear friend here for Birthday Dinner.
We first ordered delicious “5-1-0 ‘ritas” (they also have their regular margaritas which come in a 16 oz glass, for the extra-thirsty,) followed by their perfectly fried calamari appetizer, lightly coated in a dusting of well-seasoned cornmeal. They had some very yummy sounding specials, a Seared Scallop, Grilled Salmon & a Prime Rib, but we ordered & shared their NY Pepper Steak & Pork Chop entrees. Both were cooked perfectly. I admittedly have a lower tolerance for salt & found my Pork Chop a little salty, but my more salt-loving friend simply found it divine. I may request it less salted next time, if an option, (I doubt all of that came from brining,) but there will be a next time!
We also shared 2 desserts, their Orange Flourless Chocolate Cake & Caramel Apple Crisp, served hot with a vanilla bean flecked Vanilla Ice Cream.
Our server was relaxed & there when we needed him.
I’m looking forward to our next special occasion!
Awesome food and service! The Prime Rib is melt in your mouth delicious and the scallops on risotto with bacon was heavenly. Great atmosphere and great, attentive service. It did get rather loud in there as the evening got busier. other than that, it was great!
Made reservations for my mother's birthday. Started with our sever I really wish his name! He was great and attentive made sure we were good. Food was excellent coconut bbq baby racks AMAZING. We also ordered some appetizers the pot stickers (who would of thought) i could have just that and been happy but it just kept getting better dungenous crab artichoke dip to die for. Crispy buffalo chicken salad was amazing. And to finish off they payed attention to my little note that it was my mother's birthday and they brought her out a crumbule with a candle on it. Overall my party was happy and we had a great time. And cant wait to come back!
Delicious if uninventive dishes. Still manages to be chic after all these years.
Townhouse has become my "go to" East Bay restaurant. I like inviting people who have never been there and all seem to think it's a gem.. And, often, when I mention it to people who have dined at Townhouse in the past, they say..Oh I remember going there and loving it. Thanks for reminding me.
The food is great, the place is historic, and the noise level is SOOOOOO loud that conversation is impossible. The noise overwhelmed what might have been a nice dinner.
This is one of my favorite restaurants! No matter what I try, it's perfection. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu....
Great staff, cool atmosphere and delicious comfort food!
Fantastic food! Disorganized and inefficient service.
I love the Townhouse but my burger was not exciting.
My brother’s scallop pasta was too rich for him. However, I will always come back!
5pm on a weeknight was a great time for dinner here!
Best restaurant in Emeryville. I take all my important clients and company executives there when they are in town.
First time there it was great !!!
This is my new go to place!! The food was off the charts (had the warm Brussels sprouts salad, the calamari, the artichoke dip, the veal and the pork). The service was amazing (great recommendations).
Definitely an off night. I have eaten here many times as a place to get good food and service. But not this time. I ordered the crab cakes special, which came out without any sauce. They were dry, and the broccoli was lukewarm at best. After waiting for several minutes, our waiter came over and quickly noticed there was no sauce. I assumed that recognition meant he would immediately get some. After waiting for 10 minutes, with now a cold entre, he was not to be found so I called the restaurant from my table to ask for some service. Within minutes I finally got the needed sauce, but by then the meal was a disaster.
As for my partner, she asked for a very light dressing on her steak salad. Instead, it was drenched in the dressing. Another disappointment.
While we got comped for the entres, and an apology from the waiter, I need to wait a while and will try it again.
We've dined a handful of times at this place over the past year. The first time, everything was great - food, service, ambiance. The last few times have been disappointing. The food has been just OK. The host, a tall man, has been cold, unwelcoming and unfriendly; he acts as if he's doing you a favor by letting you into his dining room. I have seen him turn on the charm for parties he appears to know, but we are not one of those. This last time the wait person was totally unhelpful on menu choices, and we had to wait forever for our food, way longer than other parties who arrived and ordered well after we did. When I asked our wait person to check on the food, he refused to do so and said that ours was taking longer because we had ordered appetizers. When I pointed out that other later arriving parties had already gotten their food, he just shined me on. With all the amazing restaurants in the Bay Area, there's no need to tolerate OK food and poor service.
This is a fun, lively restaurant. We think it strikes the right balance of a good meal and fun ambience. They have a great staff and do a terrific job without being pretentious. This is one of our favorite restaurants.
This was a delicious place. The drinks were great and the food melted in your mouth. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a wait to get some bread -- we came in very hungry already. Overall I would rate it 9/10!
Had the best prime rib dinner! Can't wait to go back.
I love this restaurant! The food is great and the wait staff is wonderful!! The only down side is that it is a little loud but the vibe is still nice! So in my view, the loudness can be overlooked. Go to the Townhouse, you’ll have an excellent dining experience!
Valentine’s Day dinner
Me and my boyfriend were stunned by the quality of the food. He said he just tasted the best baby back ribs, he loved the garlic fries and was amazed by the taste of the brocolli lol will be going back again on our next special date!
My first time for Valentine's Day dinner. Will definately come back. Excellent menu. Attentive service.
Service was great. However, food and drinks were ok for the price.
I had been to townhouse years ago and was very happy to rediscover it... everything about it was wonderful..
An excellent meal all around! My kids were thrilled to eat at a “fancy restaurant”. The servers were terrific, and the food was just amazing. Please keep serving that avocado bruschetta!
Excellent food in an attractive setting. Very good service. Big detraction was noise level, as my husband and I had to shout or repeat most of our conversation, despite being in a corner.
The Townhouse was a favorite of mine when I worked in Emeryville 10 years ago and have been back only a few times. I am happy to report that it is still one of the best restaurants around. Some old friends from the Pacific NW were in Berkeley visiting and I wanted to take them out for a good dinner that was a little different from restaurants up North. It so happened that we had the summer like weather and I thought about going somewhere with a view. They had gone to a waterfront spot earlier and said drinks and snack was horrible. Our dinner was perfect at Townhouse. Food was delicious and our waiter was terriffic! He shared the history of Emeryville and Townhouse with them which they loved. They loved the architechture and interior of the restaurant as well. We shared 3 dishes-- brussel sprout salad, grilled prawns, mashed potatoes and green beans and crabcakes with broccoli. All were fabulous and the portions were perfect. One of the people eats a mostly vegetarian and only fish diet and she said that the menu provided many options. I'll be back again!! Thank you!
Great food, but this place is super loud. If want to go someplace and have a conversation, consider another restaurant.
Overall a fun place to visit with a lot of colorful history. Excellent food, large menu with many choices; reservation a must as restaurant fills up by 7:00. Good service; outdoor eating area for warm days/nights; small parking lot.Rather loud inside so I wouldn’t recommend for an intimate romantic evening. Good for groups as well as lunch or brunch .
Birthday dinner, delicious food served promptly
Great Find...Townhouse has been around for years and it still have outstanding service, great food at reasonable prices. Met a friend for dinner to catch up and chat over drinks/dinner and at no time did we feel pressure to hurry up or give up our table for others. Ended up sitting there for 4 hours, enjoying the drinks, dinner & dessert.
Awesome place. Will definitely return.
The beet salad and the artichoke dip was tasty. The ribs were too sweet but the steak was delicious. Try the flourless chocolate cake for desert. Avoid the crepe brûlée; too pasty.
Amazing as always!
Everything was fantastic, but very noisy. Pls invest in sound dampening panels.
Amazing food. A little hidden gem in Emeryville.
Iconic place in Emeryville. You get a taste of the "Old Days" here. Great place with friendly staff, good drinks and portion size makes sense...its plentiful. Great Salads, seafood and prime rib to boot. All tastes will be satisfied.
Spectacular!! Townhouse never disappoints. The food and cocktails are just fabulous, and our server tonight, Joe, was friendly and attentive yet not at all overbearing. Their thread is to die for and so are pretty much all the appetizers. My first time trying the avocado bruschetta which was a standout. No complaints. Love this place through and through — and I am a foodie and ambience expert.
Old Emeryville favorite. I like the crisp white tablecloths and the wine list. This moderately priced neighborhood eatery is consistent but manages to surprise with wonderful soups and unique appetizer pairings.
Nice people and tasty food, but far too loud---we will not return.
