Town Hall - San Francisco

The food was OK. It was tasty but nothing to write home about. The jambalaya was supposed to have vegetables mixed in the rice but I think I had one piece of pepper in the whole dish.
The service was extremely slow and after we placed our order we never saw the waiter again.
The noise level was extremely high and a felt I had to shout across the table to be heard by my friend. It was a relief to leave the restaurant because I could hear much friend much better outside on the street.
Ham tasting and biscuits were fantastic. Chicken and waffles were fun and portion was huge.
Had been a few years but I’ve always found Town Hall to be a gem and this time was no different. The service was great, food was delicious and absolutely hit the spot (had the beet salad, BBQ shrimp, and a bowl of jambalaya).
Delicious! Our food was a bit slow getting to the table, thankfully we had the time to be patient.
The food is always amazing. The set UCD
We celebrated my husband’s birthday there, and had an amazing evening of food , family and wine. Everything was excellent! We were warmly greeted and were bid a fond farewell at the end of the evening. It’s amazing to find a spot like this among the high rises. We have been dining at Town Hall for 20 years.
Great food great service. Love this place
I haven't been to Town Hall in over ten years, only having eaten their outside sandwich offering since then. Had the Fried Chicken sandwich which was excellent, unexpectedly good.
Will definitely be back. Also best biscuits I've ever had
Good food but super loud
Solid as always. Great service although it seems like the fried chicken recipe was slightly altered? It was good just not as good as I remember. But would still order again.
One hoot to get our food: a chicken sandwich and a burger. On a Wednesday. At noon. ONE HOUR.
It took the manager to get involved to get our food. Seriously? ONE hour??
Was the food ok? It was ok but not worth the wait.
The servers looked paralyzed and unable to do anything about it. So weird.
Thank you to the gracious manager. But in all honesty, seriously disappointed. What a waste of time.
Horrible experience. Took 40 minutes for a sandwich and salad. Server did not come to our table to check on us even though we told him we had time constraints when we were seated. We had to take food to go and the food was inedible after we opened the packing.
Overall great dining experience. Food for dinner was smaller but everyone loved their dish.
We had the Meat ‘n Threes, which sounded fun and had good variety on the menu. We had strip steak, which was good, and fried chicken, which was a little greasy. The sides were pretty bland with little flavor. Pimento cheese was a good appetizer.
We really like the Southern slant to the menu. The fried chicken was excellent, as was the halibut. Service was attentive and prompt. The restaurant was not too noisey, we could converse in a normal tone.
Super loud (we had to shout to be heard), vegetarian food was just burned black veggies in some greasy creamy sauces (asparagus, broccoli, etc.). The only vegetarian entree (the farro) they turned into risotto and it wasn't as good. Pass for vegetarians.
It was a special occasion but it didn't feel particularly special. It was 8pm on a Saturday night, but mostly empty. We didn't have one server -- various people came to our table which led to less than stellar attention. My gumbo was cold, but there was nobody around to tell. The servers were friendly, when you could find one.
Our bill was more than $200 for 4 people -- not unusual for SF. But there was NO alcohol...and I didn't have an entree (just a small bowl of gumbo.) We discovered that we were charged $19 for "still" water and $19 for sparkling. We were just thirsty and there was NO mention of cost. When we were asked about a refill, we said "sure." So there was a $38 charge on our bill. To his credit, the manager DID credit us by phone a few days later. I truly appreciate that.
I think the food was "fine." But the cold gumbo, inattentive service, ridiculous water charge (just TELL us you charge for sparkling and still water) and empty room (which detracts from the atmosphere) didn't add up to a $200+ dinner. There are too many choices for great meals -- for all budgets -- in San Francisco. I'd have to be hard pressed to choose Town Hall again.
What a disappointment. They know nothing of hospitality and do not care about their customers at all. Cold manager who has no compassion. Chewy shrimp, rediculously over priced meatballs that have been getting smaller and smaller... ribs taste like they were cooked yesterday and warmed up in the microwave. The jambalaya portion looks like it has been cut in half and is really bland. Taste like white rice with cheap sausage. Waffle from fried chicken taste like pure yeast. Gross. We have been coming here for over 10 years and it’s just been getting worse and worse in the past few.. all good things must pass.
Town hall just no longer feels like town hall.
Couldn’t be more sad and disappointed.
Absolutely not kid friendly. They act like they don’t like kids
It's a bit pricey, but I guess one should expect that in downtown San Francisco. Staff was friendly, service was good and food was good as well! I'll go back for sure.
many of us in our group have been to Town Hall and by far this was the worst experience we've all had. Our waiter was awful our food orders all go delivered at separate times and whomever was placing them got a couple mixed up. unfortunately, one of our diners was late but he asked the waiter if he could get a butter lettuce salad with chicken and it took almost 30 mins to get and our late diner had to leave before he could his lunch. recipes/menu items had changed and the updated iterations weren't not as good for some of our group. main reason why we go there is because we work close by but we may have to venture a little further out now.
Great restaurant for groups! Food is delicious. Get the fried ocra and the fried chicken - perfectly cooked. Wine list and cocktail menu is great.
I have eaten here several times during the week and it’s always hoping busy. But decided to stop by on weekend. It was great. Same great food. But not as packed or loud. Service was fantastic. Will definitely be back. Biscuits are the best!
I used to love this restaurant but it has really gone down hill. The whole place is rundown and in need of serious maintenance. The food used to be amazing. Now it is just ok. Sad to see such a great place lose its touch. Looks like they just don't care or plan on closing within a year.
Food was great. Ambience is amazing. Not a whole lot of choices on menu but food is always very good. A bit pricey though. Should plan on at least $40 per person
We had a great experience and the food was wonderful until the end of our visit. There were the 4 of us and we hadn’t seen each other in a long time. We had paid and we were just sitting and chatting and our, waitress as lovely as she was, informed us that we had to leave in 2 min because there was a reservation for our table. However we look around and there were so many empty 4 top tables! Why are we asked to leave then? It ruined our experience. Sorry town hall...we’ve been visiting you for years but this might be it.
Chicken and waffles amazing!
Everything was off kilter. Long wait for drinks. A server seemingly overwhelmed throughout. And food that just tasted bad. Tuna tartar that tasted off. The waffle with the fried chicken was cold and soggy. The ice cream had frozen bits throughout. This place is resting on past laurels.
Outstanding service with incredible food and a very reasonable wine list
Great food and ambiance with outstanding service.
A perfect evening dinner with friends.
Excellent as always. We have been going there for many years & will continue to do so.
Good food, nice place to go. Fine cocktails. I'lll be back.
Too noisy for a business lunch.
Everything was great. I got the fried chicken sandwich. The amount of mayo was out of control, way too much, but everything else was great.
The food was decent but not over-the-top good as I remember. I ordered their classic chicken & waffles and it didn't blow me away. Then again, I know my fried chicken! But the service was great.
I've eaten at Town Hall several times over the years and it has never disappointed. Everything is cooked perfectly and the service, while slow for some, gives a great pace for the meal that allows you to enjoy your food without feeling rushed at all.
Food was excellent. Pricing was mostly fair, but some items on the menu were overpriced. Service was CRAP. Our waiter basically came twice for food and drink orders, and then abandoned us. Luckily the bus staff kept our waters full and they were attentive, but after waiting 20 min after our plates were cleared we had to ask for our bill and then it still took another 15-20 min for him to bring it.
