The last time I ate at Town Hall was several years ago. It was very good then but this past week it was even better than I remembered it. Our party split between the classic and the seasonal dishes; everything was great. Dinner was a bit chaotic and loud but fun.

Would have like to the chef to use less oil on the dishes, especially fish.

Town hall never disappoints! Our group has Been celebrating holidays dinners out for 9 years now. I chose TownHall as it’s one of my favorites for delicious food for the soul and cocktails to lighten any harsh week. The staff is great, service is spot on, the holiday decor will help fill your with the holiday spirit.

I can’t remember how long I’ve been coming here (more than 5). Will definitely be going back and also giving high recommendations. Thanks for getting us started with a great holiday kickoff!

Ps pimento cheese and fried okra!!!

Had another excellent lunch, this time the pulled pork sandwich, and also the butternut squash soup. Always a consistently-good winner, we had the buttermilk biscuits as an appetizer, too.
Can't wait to come back for dinner some evening.
Keep up the great work!

Had the excellent Fried Chicken sandwich for lunch, which was moist and tender on the inside, crispy to perfection on the outside. I recommend it without the bread, just straight up with a side of lettuce and/or slaw that comes with it.
It's also served by itself on the Dinner menu, and that is the star of the show.
Consistently tasty and delicious from start to finish, this place continues to amaze over the years!

The food was good - everyone enjoyed their meals (pork chop, 2 seafood dishes, and I ordered a bavette but was served a hangar - which I actually prefer anyway). My steak was a bit under seasoned and I was brought jus that wasn't gluten free after discussing that with the server, so that was strange.

Our biggest problem here was the service. After dropping salads, our waitress was pretty MIA and we had a question about one of them. Then, entrees took FOREVER to hit the table. So long a few of us had taken trips to the bathroom basically to kill time and not be so stressed about it. It was a Friday night but it wasn't packed yet - our dinner was at 6:45pm and the kitchen seemed already SUPER behind. It's not the end of the world, but our waitress never mentioned it, made any sort of apology for the delay, nor offered anything up as a consolation.

Overall, I can't say I'll never be back, but it won't be soon given how many amazing places there are in SF. The food here is solid, but it's crazy to wait that long for an entree without a mention- I'm talking probably over 30 minutes - but we didn't count. Luckily, it was a family-in-town type of dinner so we were doing out best to chat and enjoy one another's company until we were sort of hangry.

We came to town with a recommendation to try it and we weren’t disappointed. Three of us shared the 39 ounce rib eye with three sides and could barely eat half of it. The steak was done perfectly and the sides were all excellent. We had a great waiter who gave us a wonderful wine recommendation and it was very good. I would definitely suggest it for a special occasion and we will go back when we’re in town.

Everything was great except for the Noise level at dining peak time. All food was awesome! BBQ shrimp, tuna tartare, cornbread, ribs and sole. One order of the Babette steak was over cooked and too tough! Bad cut?

Set in a great old historical building (best part). Overall, pretty average, and not cheap - would give it 2.5 stars out of five. I had the sole - OK but nothing special. My girlfriend had the fried chicken and waffles...chicken was excellent, waffles a little limp. Ordered sides of the jalapeno corn bread which came with very few jalapenos, and the jambalaya which was good. Warm apple tart was excellent. Cappuccino was served tepid. Service felt rushed; had to back off our waitress a couple of times. There are many other better SF restaurants.

The food was great but the service was SLOW. We were a party of 7 that came in at 11:45am for lunch. We were the only people in the restaurant at the time before the lunch hour rush. Unfortunately, multiple tables around us ate their food and paid the bill before our drinks even came. We were one of the last tables still there at 1:30 and STILL waiting for the bill. Great food but not sure it was worth all of the time spent.

Had a reservation via Open Table for 7:45 on a Friday night. We arrived at 7:35, a little early and there was no table available but the hostess suggested we eat outside. It was a warm evening, we wanted to be able to chat freely so we agreed. The construction next door was loud and continuous. Never let up. We were the only party eating outside, our waiter was grumpy even waving us off at one point when my friend wanted a second glass of wine ($20 glass of top rated and delicious Mcphail Pinot) Food was good:2 of us ordered the sole, the 3rd had the chicken and waffles which was a big serving and apparently delicious. We also had oysters, the beet salad (fantastic, best I’ve had) and a wedge salad (nice, a good serving-easily split between 2-3). The dessert we shared was roasted plums with marscapone (inventive, tasty-highly recommend). Because the hostess lead us to eat outside in what came to be an active construction site and the bad attitude of the waiter, I will go elsewhere next time. The food would have been more
enjoyable away from noise
and served by a pleasant person

The dining room at the entry was much quieter than the main dining room and good for a group. The building is beautifully restored but the high ceilings and brick walls make for a very noisy atmosphere.

Overall, this over hyped restaurant under-delivered. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich--$18 for a meager sandwich (not even full of chicken) plus potato chips. Maybe I ordered the wrong item. But my experience--skimpy and just average flavor. Nice atmosphere. Hostess was very nice.

Wait and Service was horrible. Waited 15 mins to place our order for 2 people. 15mins later my ice tea still has not arrived. I had to remind the server about my ice tea. The hostess chk'd in on us since our server was no where to be found. It took another 15 mins after asking the hostess for our 2 salads to arrive . A total of 45 mins waiting for our salads to arrive.

Town Hall is a spot that we come back to again and again, simply because the food is consistently excellent. Like almost every restaurant in San Francisco, it can be very loud, especially after 7:00PM. As we get older, loudness becomes more and more of a factor. However, the food is worth the shouting. We had the heirloom panzanella salad, the heirloom melon salad, fried chicken with waffles, and farro risotto, all fantastic, but the panzanella alone was worth every decibel. The service is consistently great; and we got comp'd one of our desserts because it took a little long to come from the kitchen. DO NOT leave without having the butterscotch pot d'creme!
