On this lunch visit, tried the Fried Chicken sandwich, which was moist and tender inside, crispy and delicious outside.
Definitely my favorite dish, along with the Buttermilk Biscuits and Fried Okra, of course.
Very disappointed in the wine. Two very high Pinot Noirs, Flowers and Hirsch were not up to standard. I wonder if the restaurant have a wine cellar in problem.
Always good food and service.
Very very slow and server did nothing to make up for it in attitude or compensation. Manager did check in eventually which was appreciated
I love the ambiance. I just wish there was one or two non- read meat healthy entrees. The chicken is fried. I think the place would be packed if they had that
Great meatballs and cheese toast. Friendly service good location too overall good experience
We met a friend here and had a delicious dinner and the service was excellent too. It's a very noisy place but that gave it a lively atmosphere. Highly recommend this restaurant, it's one of our favorites.
Good service, impressive wine list, hearty entree portions. Loved the meatballs. Will recommend for sure.
Have been to Town Hall many times and loved the food yet again. The menu is always changing, so don't count on the online menu. Only weird disappointment this time was the service. Felt like we were really bothering the server by being there!
Quick and polite service, Great food!
Everything on the menu is delicious. It has that special Mitchell Rosenthal touch. Hey Michele you need to try again it's a 3.5.
The tuna tartare with the fried green tomatoes was excellent. Pretty good wines by the glass selections.
Had the Reuben sandwich this time, and looking forward to the Pulled Pork sandwich next time. Always delicious and well-prepared, never disappointed here at Town Hall!
This is not what you would call "traditional" southern food but it puts an amazing elegant spin on everything. All the food was perfectly cooked, swimming with flavor and the portion sizes were more than generous. I didn't order it but I saw the chicken and waffle dish go by me and it looked like it could feed a whole table!
I brought home my leftovers which were promptly confiscated by my husband who also agreed that the food was amazing and that was after a re-heat in the microwave.
The restaurant was very busy for early in the evening! Our service was somewhat slow due to many tables had large parties. Food though was excellent.. we were very pleased. The barbequed shrimp was excellent.. the sauce was amazing.. salad perfect as well..Would return but it was a challenge to have a conversation as it was pretty noisy.
Food was excellent but server was inattentive at best
Always love coming here, the food and service always exceptional!
It's a sort of pricey menu but I'm certain it's geared to the younger, financial markets clientele. I had the BBQ shrimp which was tasty but would have been much better if it had been hot instead of barely warm. I didn't want to send it back because I was afraid I'd have to wait another hour for the food. As it was, the dinner took a very long time. The location is great but parking is nasty. If you're arriving on BART, it's a 3 block walk
Great food. Very noisy place with loads of energy. Great service.
Disappointing. Food not spectacular and service rather poor.
Our wait person was hard to pin down. Her knowledge of food very poor and she was very distracted. Waited a long time for drinks and food. Quality of food was just okay. Definitely not enough wait staff.
I have been a fan of Town Hall for years. As always, the food did not disappoint. However, our waiter, Timothy was some what surly and condescending to one of my dinner guests. She is relatively young and had trouble pronouncing the name of her wine. Timothy was rather snooty about it. We also felt a little rushed. But I'll be back. The food is that good.
Good food and good for business meals but super loud.
On my latest visit with clients, this time I had the Fried Chicken sandwich, which was outstanding as usual and never fails to disappoint!
Can't wait to return and try the pulled pork sandwich, or possibly the salmon or bavette steak...
So many wonderful choices from which to choose....
We were celebrating a friend's birthday, and the ambiance, dinner and evening were all excellent..
Six of us had dinner and loved every single thing. Big discussion re which is better, the fried chicken or the ribs! Jalapeño corn bread to die for, great beet salad. You will love this food!
Jill was amazing!
Great food! Highly recommend. The ribs were quite tasty
Town Hall never disappoints. We went there for a birthday dinner, shared a range of different appetites and plates plus a range of many different cocktails. Between us we probably tried every item on the menus! The food is "California Cajun" with quality ingredients and lots of nice southern touches. The BBQ Shrimp, Cornbread, and Ham and Biscuits are to die for. Versatile restaurant that is good for a business dinner or just for fun.
Service was lacking
Used to be a favorite. But, the food and service and gone downhill.
We decided to have our New Year’s Eve dinner here so that we could walk to the fireworks nearby after. We made a reservation at 10.00pm on Open Table, and showed up at the restaurant at around 9.45pm. We did not get seated till 10.45pm. Although it was a very busy night at the restaurant, and they had overbooked, it was very annoying to have people who showed up later with the same 10.00pm reservation get seated first. The excuse that was given was that they followed the order of the 10.00pm reservations in their system, but frankly, with a little courtesy and not too much imagination, the restaurant staff could have seated us before the other 10.00pm guests who showed up much later. The difference was almost 20 minutes if we had been seated in the order we came.
Another small gripe I had was that my partner wanted to try the oysters but didn’t know if he would like it. The menu listed oysters for $3.75 each, and did not specify any minimum order. When I told the waiter we wanted 2 oysters, he couldn’t help himself and smirked. Quite unprofessional I thought.
The other dishes we ordered were not bad. We had the Swiss chard for starters, and then the Beef Duo and BBQ ribs. The steak in the Beef Duo was cooked rare, but was much too cold. The ribs were not bad, just a tad dry.
Overall, it was an okay dinner, marred by the wait in the beginning and the waiter’s attitude. We ended up missing the first minute of the fireworks because our dinner ended up later than expected, and basically had to rush through the entrees so that we could make it to the waterfront in time.
Not a typical experience I hope. We came on New Year's Eve and had to wait 30 minutes for our table despite having a reservation. They blamed it on Open Table only allowing 75 minutes for each seating. The wait staff seemed quite rushed and harried. Food took a long time to come and the second beer took even longer. We were in and out within 75 minutes as we wanted to see the fireworks. I would not come here again on NYE, it was too stressful and the food was not worth it. We had the beef duo and the St Louis ribs. They brought bread and butter to fill the time before out main course was ready, which was a nice touch. Our waiter did his best, I'm sure it was hard work. We will come back when it's less busy but be aware they do add the healthy SF surcharge to the check. It gets deducted from their tip...
We showed up exactly at our reservation time and waited for 40 minutes before we were seated. The waitress wasn’t familiar with a single bottle of wine on the menu and pushed us to just make a choice when I asked if there was a somolier or another waiter that could answer our questions. It was a good 20 minutes before she came around and took our order. We ordered mains and she informed us that it would take a while and we needed to order starters. The food was great but the service was offensively awful.
New Years Eve dinner
Tasty fare, but your mileage will vary depending on what you order. I had the beef duo which was well seasoned, tender and absolutely a party in my mouth. My partner had the buttermilk chicken which was decent, but underwhelming. The pot de creme was rich and had a nice texture. Staff was attentive despite how busy it was. Overall, a positive experience.
very creative: food, interior design, choice of music, attention to detail
Always perfect. Food. Service. Total experience.
To be fair, this was probably not a typical night at Town Hall. Christmas Eve so very busy. As a result, service was very slow and restaurant very noisy. Food was not piping hot when served and I do think a bit overpriced. I should not base my experience on one night but I would not go back there again.
Loved getting in early, when not crowded. Great cocktails and kind, accommodating staff! Then we liked very much that we could order small plates.
Only thing I’d frown on is the expense of the main plates, but probably in line with city wide costs.
