Inedible food at expensive prices. Avoid.
The food is always worth going for. Unfortunately on this visit, we were met with quite a long wait for our reservations and food. The table next to us had to get their food to go because of how long service was taking. Felt like they were very short-staffed and nobody acknowledged the issues in the restaurant that day. The noise level in the corner is unbearable as well. this place needs some sound dampening.
Great food and our waitress Jill made our night. She had a wonderful spirit and engaged with my two teenage sons so well.
It took the servers a bit longer than usual to stop by and get our drink order.
Once we ordered drinks I started feeling a bit rushed to place the food order, with 2 different servers asking for our order.
We got the shrimp, jalapeño cornbread and the meatballs.
Everything was extremely delicious.
The bartender made a perfect gimlet!
Server was amazing! Food was amazing! Great experience!
Great food, great service—love this place. Fried chicken sandwich was delicious (oily, of course). Flank steak was also very good. Lastly, I LOVE that they have their reserve wine list that is reasonably priced. What a treat!
The service here is HIGH GRADE. Very attentive staff, who although are very busy, still make you feel as though your dining experience is their priority. The food is well prepared, although, I wish it was blazing hot when it came out, it was delicious and cooked to my liking. It can get loud in here, but it isn't obnoxious. It's probably the acoustics of the dining room. I have been here several times before, and I haven't had an experience that would prevent me from returning again.
Slow service. Food was bland and the menu was limited. The pictures of food are outdated and only half of what is shown is on the menu.
Would not recommend- there are much better restaurants in SF for the money.
They seated us in a quiet corner, but promptly forgot about us. Our business lunch took nearly two hours, because every time we wanted something, it took us twenty minutes to flag someone down to get it - ordering, water refills, getting the check, getting our food. The only memorable dish we had was the corn bread appetizer, which was exceptional. My jambalaya was primarily tomato sauce.
Jalapeño cornbread had no jalapeños. It was basically honey cornbread.
Bbq shrimp toast was burnt. Not crisp, but burnt with the associated bitter flavor
Shrimp were over cooked and rubbery.
Server was more interested in her phone and the patrons at the bar than managing our experience.
Biscuits were good and house made red pepper jelly was outstanding.
This used to be my go to place for southern food in SF. Food has become so bland that I won’t be back.
We remembered the food as being wonderful (tuna tartar especially) from our daughter’s wedding reception. It was just as good and our friends thought so too. A few snafus with the service threw things off a bit. But still a great night!!
Our server, Kara, was excellent.
Try the fried chicken and the cornbread.
Solid place for a business dinner.
Bar tenders waitress great as well as accommodating host
I asked for no meant in my soup and they added meat and weren’t that apologetic
We enjoyed the Sunday pre fixe menu; good selections!
Food is quite good, but it's too loud inside to enjoy being there. The opentable "energetic" is a substitute for deafening
The waiter for our table was super pushy to order more food and became very rude since we didnt order more. Their portions are huge couldnt finish mine. Food was nice a bit over priced but that’s fine. The rude waiter ruined over all experience, i will never visit again.
We came at a slow time, most of the tables were empty, and they sat us next to a table with 2 kids that were noisy.
My salmon was $34, and it was just a small piece on an otherwise empty plate.
This was a better restaurant in years past.
What happened Town Hall? You use to be my favorite Financial District restaurant. Empty tables, over cooked food, and a low energy environment :(
Don’t get the meatloaf! It comes out undercooked. Good restaurant, but not great food. Great service and cool place but would only go here for a casual dinner to try something else.
I brought a candidate that I was interviewing and she was vegetarian. First they dropped of the cornbread with no plates, I had to request them. She ordered the salad with no mushrooms and it came as in the menu with no modifications.
Solid southern food, but still so noisy that won't work for business meals.
I attended with a large group (12 people) for a team dinner. We were seated promptly and were one of 4 other large groups on a Monday night. We were served promptly, and had exceptional service. We had shared starters and the recommendations and portions recommended by the server were exactly right. Food arrived promptly for both starters and mains, most people seemed happy with their food. Overall a good place for a big group
The cornbread was ridiculously good.
Sundays are super quiet given the neighborhood, turns Town Hall into a secret dining choice for mostly locals. Great Sunday special menu, unhurried and quiet for an early dinner.
The food was OK. It was tasty but nothing to write home about. The jambalaya was supposed to have vegetables mixed in the rice but I think I had one piece of pepper in the whole dish.
The service was extremely slow and after we placed our order we never saw the waiter again.
The noise level was extremely high and a felt I had to shout across the table to be heard by my friend. It was a relief to leave the restaurant because I could hear my friend much better outside on the street.
Too many tables crowded together, unresponsive staff, and mediocre food. The okra was stringy and the broccoli I tough but the esters never ask about your food so you’re stuck with it. Too many other great places to eat to waste a meal here
Ham tasting and biscuits were fantastic. Chicken and waffles were fun and portion was huge.
Had been a few years but I’ve always found Town Hall to be a gem and this time was no different. The service was great, food was delicious and absolutely hit the spot (had the beet salad, BBQ shrimp, and a bowl of jambalaya).
Delicious! Our food was a bit slow getting to the table, thankfully we had the time to be patient.
The food is always amazing. The set UCD
We celebrated my husband’s birthday there, and had an amazing evening of food , family and wine. Everything was excellent! We were warmly greeted and were bid a fond farewell at the end of the evening. It’s amazing to find a spot like this among the high rises. We have been dining at Town Hall for 20 years.
Great food great service. Love this place
I haven't been to Town Hall in over ten years, only having eaten their outside sandwich offering since then. Had the Fried Chicken sandwich which was excellent, unexpectedly good.
Will definitely be back. Also best biscuits I've ever had
Good food but super loud
