Staff was very professional. I just wanted a quiet table for 1. No questions asked they showed me to a lovely out of the way table. Knew just when to check on me and when to leave me alone. Packaged leftovers beautifully.
AMAZING food. I only wish I had room for dessert. Next time for sure. We got the corn bread and biscuits to start, Fried chicken and waffle to share, as well as a salad and Mac & Cheese. Everything was outstanding.
I enjoy this restaurant a lot, the building and inside space are very attractive. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
I do find it extermely noisy; simple table-talk is difficult with the ambient noise of other people simply talking to each other at their tables. Noise abatement on the walls or ceilings would help this significantly.
The food is very good, but $21 for a moderately size bowl of farrow with no meats is exorbitant, considering the restaurnt does not provide anythin like bread, breadsticks, etc. to nosh while waiting for your order. Our order consisted of two items, farrow and gumbo (mixed - all proteins), and the cost was $61.76 (!!!) with a 20% tip, becasue the staff is not responsible for the costs, noise, or offerings (or lack thereof).
The food can take a while to be served; we ordered prior to noon and waite almost 20 minutes for our two orders farrow and the gumbo.
Enjoyed another fantastic business lunch at Town Hall today, having the Fried Chicken Sandwich, and also the Burger.
Both were very well-prepared and delicious, as always!
Looking forward to a return visit soon, maybe try some other dishes along the way.
The Sunday "meat and 3 sides" is a fantastic bargain. We had attended a jazz concert and arrived early as the restaurant was opening. The hostess and servers were very accommodating as they prepared for the evening. As we were the only customers for about 30 minutes, the atmosphere was quiet. The food was well prepared and overly generous. The butter lettuce salad was one of the best I've ever tasted. Our dessert was packaged for us to take home because we were unable to eat any more. Try this offering when you have the chance!
Brought longtime friend there who was visiting from out of town. Went there a year ago and food was delicious. I was a little disappointed this time.
Excellent food and service as always. Amazing cocktails and wine list
Been here 4 or 5 times, every time the food and staff have been great. This last time the staff were so friendly they outshone the food. Which is saying something. Go! you will not be disappointed.
Service and food were good.
Venue is very noisy. It’s probably the building structure or wall material. It makes having a conversation difficult.
Terrible. Just terrible. It took 20 minutes just to get our drinks.
All 5 of our meals were very good. The service was prompt and friendly.
Jill was a great server! Had an amazing meal.
I have never been disappointed here! I adore the Tuna Tartar with fried green tomatoes, but really, the menu is varied and delightful, a slice of Americana. The wine list is extraordinary!
Great service, loved the food.
Overall, good dining experience. Farro dish was bland but BBQ shrimp appetizer and snicker cake desert was very good. Portions seem to have gotten smaller and no more bread service.
As expected, Town Hall is a solid staple in the city. It's likely been 7-8 years since I've been to Town Hall on a weekend evening. I am usually there for weekday lunches or dinners for work. This past weekend, we hosted our friends in town staying in FiDi and thought we'd try it out on a Saturday vs having our friends trek through the city. I have to say everything we ordered was fantastic - from the BBQ shrimp and toast (it's still got it!), nicoise salad, cornbread. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and everyone else at the table thoroughly enjoyed their entrees. My only comment would be that the ambiance on weekend nights is lacking given sparsity of patrons which is too bad. I'm not sure if they get a lot of folks in on Sundays when they have the Meat n' threes but maybe they should think about switching things up on weekends to draw in more people.... Our service was ok, nothing overly impressive, but no complaints. Overall, you can't go wrong with the food here!
Great homemade charcuterie, out of this world biscuits, flavorful ribs salmon and shrimp, wonderful service and very welcoming atmosphere from beginning to end. Will be back.
Valentines Day
Town Hall is a go to for business lunches since I work close by in downtown SF. We enjoyed the biscuits and cornbread (don't miss) and the tartare for starters. The salmon was tasty. Unfortunately I found the "Tennessee T-Bone" sandwich to be disappointing and the first dish I've had at TH which I wouldn't reorder. Next time I'll stick with the fried chicken!
Food was very tasty and delicious. Hostess was friendly and accomodating.
Our dinner was fantastic! We were celebrating a very special ocassion and you guys made it all better thanks to the attentive manager Violet and our server Sunni and all your wonderful staff. We had well balanced delicious cocktails made by Drew, incredible tasty food for an excellent value. We are looking forward to come back with all our friends and family in the near future.
All I can say is that our server Jill made the entire night. The food is fantastic, but the service was even better.
The food and service were great (as always)! We had a working lunch for a party of 7. The server was perfect. He was attentive, while giving us space to work. Also, we were also celebrating the promotion of one person in our group. The server overheard us talking, and gave him a couple tastes of a delicious and rich chocolate cake. Those small thoughtful gestures really make all the difference, thank you!!
Excellent as usual!
I've eaten at Town Hall many times over the years and went because I consider it a reliably good place. This time, I had a mixed experience. It was a Friday evening, early-ish and the restaurant was half full. Our server was slow to get us menus and slow to take our drink order, and told us that the bar was busy and so our drinks might take some time. They did, and when they arrived, they were watery and did not taste good - and we ordered different cocktails. At $13 each, we would have been better off drinking water. They took the cocktails off the check, but we would have perferred to have been served good drinks. It also took some time to get our wine that we ordered to make up for the cocktails. The tuna tartare and veal meatballs were both excellent. The two salads were ok but not expertly dressed; they lacked a proper bite of vinegar and were again watery. Our server was slow and didn't seem to like us. We had to grab the bus boy a couple of times to get services. Overall, it was not a great experience. I'm hoping this is an anomaly, as Town Hall has been one of my go-to places in SoMa.
Our waiter was not engaging nor personable.
However, the other wait staff was attentive and on point.
Upscale casual ambiance. Food was hot, good. Get the biscuits, for sure. Really good service. OpenTable reservation worked out great here so our table was ready during a busy lunch hour. Seating at the bar looked popular. Outside seating had heating lamps and a plastic tent. Short walk from my office. I'll be sure to return.
We had one of the worst experience ever trying to get seated. We had a 615 reservation but arrived early at 530. So we went in and asked the reception if we could get seated earlier. We were told guests are being seated close to their reservations and we need to wait at the bar... but we realize most of the tables are empty with a “reserved” tag that says 615, 630, etc. Our group thought it is odd that we can’t get seated when one of these tables is obviously reserved under our name (plus we saw that lady bringing group after group in). But when we asked again, she was passive aggressively giving us some attitude and that is uncalled for, to put it mildly.
There are lots of great restaurants in the city and we do4 have to take this kind of pathetic service. Not going to dine here again.
It was a disappointing evening. I had ribs which hadn’t been cooked long enough to fall off the bone , you had to pry it off. The service was awful. Our waiter never smiled once, forgot our side of roasted vegetables and when we pointed it out, h got a strange look on his face and finally said he’d look into it. They finally arrived after our entree’s were finished. They did take it off our bill.
When the waiter took our orders he took the men’s orders first. It was strange.
The place was only half full the entire night. It’s sad it’s gone so far downhill.
Had a great experience and Nina our server was the best!
First the restaurant told us our reservation was only for 2 people, despite the reservation through OpenTable clearly showing 3, making us feel like we inconvenienced the restaurant even though we had booked with the correct number of people.
It took about 15-20 minutes for us to even be acknowledged and have our orders taken in the first place, and about another 30 minutes after that point to receive our food, so at this point we had to somewhat rush through our meals- not expected service during a weekday lunch. The restaurant was also extremely loud.
The food itself was average but overpriced for what it was. I wouldn’t come back here.
Had to wait 30 min past reservation to get seated but it was JPM week so happens. Food was excellent and good value.
This may be a one-off experience as it was hectic, but from the moment we sat down, there were major service issues. First, the server spilled an entire glass of water across the table and soaked me. No apology from the server or follow up from the waiter. Took forever to get menus. When we finally ordered, the waitress said we had to order everything at once., had no interest in telling us about the menu. Very unfriendly. And then it still took forever to get drinks. And the food was just “meh”.
Will be a long time before I return.
Amazing service!
Had a friend in town for a conference Sunday who wanted a great place for dinner to catch up. Sundays are a fixed menu. While a goo value with very good ambiance and service the food was fair at best. The salmon was dry, fried pickles as well as the fried okra were bland, and the fried chicken had little flavor. The butterscotch dessert was quite delicious. Overall I would recommend for happy hour given the ambiance and service but would pass on dining there again.
The service was very good and much appreciated. Unfortunately, my entrée was prepared well done instead of medium rare, but the staff was amazing about addressing the issue. We enjoyed our meal regardless and the signature dessert never disappoints.
We had a lovely time except.... The waiter seemed to think we were having some kind of special occasion dinner which would entail multiple course and bountiful alcohol -- and the big tip that he'd get from such a dinner. We were not having that kind of meal, and he seemed visibility disappointed when we declined to order a ton of food or another bottle of champagne. I don't like feeling like someone's cash cow. I'm allowed to eat a light meal at a restaurant. As it was, our tab was around $120 for two.
Ambiance was nice, but pretty loud. We had requested a quieter table, but there really isn't a place in the main dining room that is quiet. The chicken and waffles were good. The special rib eye steak served that day was outstanding. Service was attentive and cordial. Overall, very good and relaxed.
I feel the restaurant needs a remodel as the seating is uncomfortable. An interior designer is definitely needed. Food isn’t as good either. Redo please!!
Best Chicken waffle I've ever had! The ribs were a bit too spicy though. Great wines too
